Hey, are you feeling better about DC closing down? I definitely feel like it had a wider range of films and series than say Gooddrama. I found a lot of stuff I couldn't find on GD on DC. Anyway, it is what is it.

How was Breathless & the drama you're watching now. I can't remember its name.

I'm still in slump.

No, I haven't see CS or Gu. Both are on my list though. Gu got very mixed reviews. Since you recommended it I'm assuming it was great for you? If so, why?

What are your favourite Jmovies?

Hmmm ... based on yor review I think I just might skip Startling. :(

The name of the show is awesome, though.

As for Hannibal, yes, I've heard of it & I've reserved it to watch. Since it's a new show I was planning to wait until the 1st season airs & have a look at the reviews before investing. I like Mads Mikkelsen though. He's the only Scandinavian actor that interests me. And maybe (haven't quite made up my mind yet) Nicholas Clauster-Waldau who plays Jaime in Game of Thrones.

What is Hannibal about really (don't spoil this time)? Is it the classic story about the cannibalistic Hannibal Lector or one of his offspring?

What about Bates Motel, have you been watching? It has one of my favourite actresses in it, Vera Farmiga.

I've been hearing a lot of hype about I Hear Your Voice, but I think I'm gonna pass on it for a number of reasons.

Unnie! I was planning to write you just as your msg came in! How are you? I did notice the last time you checked in on MDL was 4 days ago but I understand that summers are busy! :)

My summer could be better, but I'm happy to be alive and in relatively good health.

I'm in a bit of a drama slump. Can't seem to muster the interest to watch anything Asian! :(

What have you been up? What have you been watching? How's Seattle? I just spoke to my cousin who lives up there & he's nagging me to come for a visit! :)

Hey, I can't remember if I responded to you or not. If I didn't sorry for the delay. I'm in a bit of a slump & all my motivation to do more than browse the feeds is gone.

We were talking about K vs J dramas. For me the scale tips from time to time in favour of one over the other, but there's never a time when I can say with absolute certainty that I love K-dramas more than J-dramas or vice versa. J-dramas in general tend to be more emotionally resonant. And while they may be just as conservative in showing intimacy I find they generally have a more adult approach to relationships than k-dramas. For eg they don't gloss over the characters' sexuality as much as K-dramas are wont to do.

Having said that I don't necessarily find them more enjoyable. It's rather that each country & their dramas fulfill the same need in a different way. If that makes any sense ... lol! :)

Sam, what's cooking? As usual, sorry for the late reply. Blame it on my current drama slump which makes me lack motivation to do more than browse the MDL feeds these past few weeks.

Thank you for the rec for The Tempest! I'll check it out. I love Japanese historicals because I love seeing their way of life back in those days.

Please tell me the problem you had with Startling (I don't mind the spoiler). From your post I decipher that someone significant to the plot will die, maybe one of the leads? Am I right? I wouldn't be surprised, after all we are talking about an Asian show ... and we all know how much Asians like to piss us off by killing characters we've come to know & love! LOL

What are you watching right now? Do you have any good recs for me that will take me out of my slump? Really looking for inspiration but it's seeming hard to come by. Cheers! :)

No worries, Edinaa. As busy professionals, we're in the same boat! :) Although it's vacation season over here where I live. My boyfriend and I won't take a big vacation this year. Just a long weekend over to Copenhagen on the boat.

Yes, I'm stilling feeling the same. I don't know what will draw me out of my slump.

Do you have any good movie recs you can give to take me out of this state?

What have you been watching lately?

I've been mostly working and watching Western flicks. I saw The Place Beyond the Pines recently. I thought it was a very convoluted story about fathers and sons, but I liked the character studies. Bradley Cooper is, as always, very nice to look at & Ryan Gosling (in my opinion) continues to be a tad overrated. What do you think of him?

Goodreads is like MDL, but for bookworms. It's a place were readers of any & every genre gather to rate, review & discuss their favourite books with like minded people.

It's a great place to hang out if you can avoid the rabid fan girls & boys (impossible). Up until a few years ago I was a voracious reader, mostly of crime, romance & non-fic. Now since I started to focus on my career & bcuz film production is so time-consuming & creative I kind of loss interest in reading. I still read ... on occasion, but certainly not as much as I used to.

The Greatest Love isn't coming along at all. I'm stuck at ep 11 & that may be as far as I can go. I'm in a really big slump at the moment, not interested in watching anything Asian at all lately. Have been watching mostly Western stuff the last few weeks.

Movie pick for June's up. Thx for the interest! :)

I'm dead worried for our world! Either our users on MDL don't care about rules or can't write and read? Second…
Let me make one thing clear ... since you started a silly argument & are now trying to backpedal.

I did not come 'talking' to you.

You replied to my initial comment & attacked me bcuz of my opinion. When you respond to someone's comment the system notifies that person so naturally I took your comment to be directed at me.

So don't try to pretend like I'm the one who sought you out & started a quarrel with you. You really need to grow up & accept the fact that we as people aren't going to see eye to eye on everything. That is life.

I see lots of crap posted on MDL that I don't agree with, but I don't go off on people like a crazy person. If you don't agree with me, fine, state your opinion in a polite manner & leave it at that.

If you're rude & disrespectful to others don't be surprised when you get the same treatment in return.

That is all. I wash my hands of this silliness.

The question you should be asking yourself is how does my comment influence YOUR life? You seem to be taking things mightily personal.

Perhaps you should practice what you preach and look away if you don't like what I and others here have to say on this matter.

Moreover, I was responding to Akai-Kitsune who started this discussion. So why pick on me?

And why is it so hard for you to accept that people will feel differently about this issue? I'm not the only one who gets annoyed by this and people are not going to quit being annoyed just because you throw a hissy fit. Do you go around attacking everyone who doesn't share your position?

Grow up, please. And accept that people will have differing opinions and that's perfectly okay!

Morning Edinaa, I'm still in a slump so I haven't watched anything lately.

It seems like many people are enjoying I Hear Your Voice. I don't think I'll watch it as the synopsis doesn't really interest me. I'll wait until it airs and see the reviews.

Are you enjoying so far?

This is bad. I hope Gooddrama doesn't face the same fate. I tend to only download movies & stream dramas online. If these sites get taken down I will be lost! I'm in a slump now but my addiction is likely here to stay.

Sad day for us drama fans indeed!

At the same time as a filmmaker, I'm kind of torn. I understand broadcasters wanting to be compensated for their content, but as a fan I am saddened.

Moreover, this would be a huge loss for Asia too because worldwide drama addiction brings auxiliary benefits such as increased tourism to the region. That should be good for something but I guess broadcasters don't give a sh-- if their pockets are being robbed. I get it ... and then I don't.

Uhm ... I don't know how old you are. If you're a minor don't take what I'm about to say too harshly. But ...

Reviews are meant to be read. That's why they're called reviews. A half-baked, biased opinion on a still airing drama is not a review therefore it shouldn't be posted as such. Your suggestion that 13 yr olds are too dumb to follow this simple rule is insulting ... and a gross generalization. But thanx for your opinion. You're entitled to it, just as I am to mine.

Yup, I agree. Sooo annoying. They should make it so that reviews on dramas can only be posted AFTER a drama has aired.

Oh & by the way HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, my lovely magne dongsæng! Hope you had a great day. Also hope you did NOT watch any tragic movies that made you CRY on your big day! :)

P.S. This month will be my least favourite in your challenge! I hate tragedies, esp Asian ones because they're always so gut-wrenching! Gah!

:(

Hi dongsæng! :)
No, I haven't seen Mulan, at least not the (chinese?) version. I think I saw the Disney version years ago. What Hollywood produces and sells is pure escapism, most of the time. And that's usually to the detriment of quality & substance of the story. So I'm not surprised the Asian version is much better. I'll probably check it out one day.

You know what, living so far up north & not being much of a TV watcher I totally missed the hype around the 50 Shades series. A few years ago I was very active on Goodreads (I read more stuff back then too), but I became less so about 2 yrs ago so I had no clue these books were the current 'les livres du jour'. When I found out I was like what the heck? These are sooooo not worth the recognition! The protags are likeable enough but the plot is non-existent, sex scene on every other page, the writing is BAD. You didn't miss a thing!

Hehe, thx! Straightforward is the only way I know how to be! It sometimes get me into trouble, but oh well! :) Just out of curiosity ... where did you see me being straightforward? Was it on the Hot K-actors over 30 thread? I say a lot of silly things when I'm in the presence, virtual or otherwise, of gorgeous men! :)

Anyway, thx for the request. I hope you're over 18! :)
And yes, I WILL watch City Hall, one day soon. As for what you should try from my list pay attention to anything scored 8 and above for what I perceive to be great cinema & not so great but still good/watchable, 7 - 5. Cheers! :)

Omg, it's funny I skimmed A LOT of the sex scenes too which sooo counters the point of the books! What's the point of reading lady porn ... if you drop the porn? You know what am sayin'? Those damn sex scenes were on every other page & conflict, real conflict that keeps a reader engaged was replaced with ... you guessed it S.E.X. Ugh. I kept reading for the same reason as you but even Christian's background felt contrived. I'm just glad it's over. I'll listen to you more from now on! haha!

Well, winnie, I can tell you ... you made the right choice abandoning the 50 shades series after B1. I 'finished' B3 last night & I want back the hrs I spent reading these novels. Seriously. The series was a huge disappointment. By far B2 was the worst, but B3 wasn't much better. B1 wasn't good, but the prospect of new, interesting characters & hot sex keeps you reading (I did, at least).

I went in excepting romantic erotica, a lil BDSM smut, but to me the sex was quite boring. I mean, where's the fun in having sex in a bed most of the time? Meh. Otherwise ... repetitive, poorly written, juvenile & most of the 'plot' (if you can call it that) was so contrived. Every time you look forward to something that could raise the stakes Christian & Ana hop into bed like rabid bunnies. Cuz you know, that's how they solve ALL their problems. After pg 200, I just skimmed the rest. W.O.T
