Actually, do you really believe he needed convincing? I don't think so because by the looks of how torn up he was walking away from her his feelings never changed. That's why he broke down so quickly & took Mi Joo back. All that tough guy, I'm forgotten about you so forget about me BS was just a front to push her away. LOL

Too bad he seemed to have underestimated Mi Joo's love for him AND her intelligence.

Even though I would have preferred an extended ending, I loved how she cornered him to explain why, of all the places he could have gone, he went to that one special place where they expressed their love for the first time? Haha ... there's no way he could explain that because he had NO other reason to be there. Haha.

I loved her in My Little Bride! Not so much in Innocent Steps. But I did enjoy both movies.

Those are the only things I've seen her in. I would have added Painter of the Wind to my ptw but I'm not really fond of gender benders. Coffee Prince was enough for me.

Thanks for the movie recs! You've mentioned many that I really want to see. For eg, Love Me Not. I've been searching for it, but can't find a good copy. I believe it's on gooddrama but the quality is unwatchable, if I remember correctly. Where did you watch it? I hope it wasn't on the now defunct dramacrazy.net...

It's been great so far. Weather's holding up. The vibe's good.

A little miffed at myself for forgetting both my laptop & BF's iPad at home so I've not been able to watch my dramas since the only computer available to us is the one in our hotel lobby. Roaming costs are too crazy in Scandinavia to chance using the net on our phones.

Anyway, it's all good. If it didn't feel like I've lost a limb, it would have been a good thing that I forgot them. After all we are supposed to be on vacation. LOL.

Sounds like you're having a blast! Keep it up. A little wine is good for the soul! :-)

For me the last episode was the only disappointment of the show. I agree that it should have been 21 episodes just to give both the characters & the audience more closure. I didn't like how Kang Jæ froze out Mi Joo before, during & after he left prison, though I understood his motivation. My interpretation of his behaviour is that he blames himself for his father & Sang Taek's deaths. He felt like if Mi Joo continued being a part of his life she'll end up getting hurt. So he pushes her away. I get it, but I would have actually preferred to hear him say it. His actions convinced me though that he loves Mi Joo terribly so that's why I decided to still give it a 10.

The thing I like about Kang Jæ is that although he isn't a perfect man; although he's made a name for himself in an unscrupulous profession, he's an honourable and I'd even go as far as to say selfless person.

Loved when he was telling Sang Taek about his feelings for Mi Joo, that he tried to convince himself to go to Yu Jin, go to Yu Jin ... but he can't bring himself to do it. So poignant! This scene made me love him even more because it showed that he doesn't take the situation lightly. He knows he's going to hurt Yu Jin & doesn't relish it. After all, she's a good woman who dedicated years of her life to him, is now pregnant with his kid ... but the heart wants what it wants.

Loved when he bullied that guy into giving Mi Joo a job & recruited all his men to have work done! LOL More than that I loved that Mi Joo thanked him for getting her the job. Most other so called 'strong' drama heroines would gotten angry at him for 'interfering'. But I thought her thanking him made perfect sense given what she said: times are hard & jobs are hard to come by.

You describe exactly how I feel about Kang Jæ & the drama! Kang Jæ to me is THE MAN. I loved that everything was so maturely handled, everything felt authentic and served a purpose. For once I didn't mind that there was a love triangle because it was relevant to the story & intensified the bond between the leads.

That roof scene is one of my favs! Other favs:

When Kang Jæ came to Yu Jin's place to propose. Mi Joo dropping the roasted almonds when she heard the proposal ... sooo symbolic of their love even though that love has never been expressed in the open, even though they're not 'together'. Sooo well done & perhaps my most fav scene! :)

Although I felt a little bad for Yu Jin I also loved the scene when Kang Jæ was waiting up for Mi Joo & how he jumped up off the couch when he heard her door slam. Such a small action but it spoke volumes of just how hard he's falling for her.

Wow, you totally sold! I'll definitely give it a go if I can find it!

I'm more of a fiction film person, but good docs will keep my butt in the seat for sure.

At the same festival where I saw the catastrophe that's Nuclear Waste I saw a doc called The Act of Killing. Started out a bit disjointed and boring even, but be a little patient and it turns into something shocking, when you realized that such people actually live in the world breathing the same air as you and I.

Check it out. And thanks for the rec of The Great Silence! I'll keep you posted on how it goes! :-)

What are you watching now, if anything?

No, I haven't. In fact I've never heard of it even though I attend several different, and some of the major, film festivals each year.

I see it's about monks. Have you see it? Why should I watch it?

"I dont hate dramas what i dont like, im sad about lost opportunity but i hate to be bored, i even prefer to be annoyed bc then there was something what touched me."

Omo, all I can say to this is WORD, especially to the last part of the sentence. I too want to feel SOMETHING even if it is just irritation.

I'm reminded of a short film I saw at a film festival recently. It's called Nuclear Waste & it stole 31 mins of my life that I will never get back. The film was so mind numbingly boring I wanted to get violent with the filmmaker & the festival programmer. LOL

So yeah I get you. Many times emotional impact will score higher with me than the technical aspects of a film, but when both are in place it becomes masterpiece (for me).

I think there are a lot parallels in our tastes based on the rating you gave certain dramas/movies! :-)

Hope you like it! :-)

What's cooking otherwise, kid? Long time we haven't chatted. How are/were your exams?

LOL, I don't know where you get the patience to watch airing shows. I can't do it. I parked Cruel City for this reason even though I watched the first 2 eps and loved it! Kinda have the same vibe as Lovers actually.

But I decided to wait until the end of the month to continue with it because last thing I want is end up waiting for episodes when I need to see what happens next NOW. lol

Are you watching/planning to watch that show, by the way?

Wow, based on the reviews a majority of viewers seem to dig this drama too. I'll definitely bump it up on my list! I love the synopsis as well. Last month I watched a movie called Oasis about 2 disabled people who fall in love. Some people might shy away from the movie without giving it a chance because of the characters' disability, but it was amazingly poignant. If you haven't seen it I'd highly rec that you do.

I also checked Goddess of Fire and realized that I have heard about it before. I didn't add it to the list because I got the impression it's a tragedy & I tend to avoid those. Also Moon Geun Young ... she still hasn't quite grown on me yet.

Did you watch her in A Painter of the Wind?

How about movies, do you have any favs you want to recommend? I'd appreciate it because these days I'm at a loss as to what movies to watch. Guess Lovers only cured my drama slump. :)

Hi Raincat, how is it going?
I've noticed that you're a drama watcher with very particular tastes.
There seems to be a lot you don't like so I came stalking your profile just to see what dramas you do like but you have not posted anything.

I'm intrigued by what dramas make you tick? What makes a drama good for you? And what elements has to be included (or not be included) in order for you to enjoy a drama?

You seem to be even pickier than me & I was under the impression that I was very picky. Apparently not, LOL! I'm okay with most dramas I've seen. I mean I may not looove them & they may not be favs but they're okay. I'm not sorry I watched most of them (I'm sorry I watched Save the Last Dance for me & 18 vs 29 :)

All the other stuff (the construction, the Chinese mafia etc) did not make sense to me either until later on in the show. And even if you still feel lost later on, it doesn't matter because that story line runs parallel, rather than intertwines, with the romance.

Unlike you, though, I love the machismo in this show! I love the fight sequences! :-) I am in general a huge fan of the crime genre, particularly with gangster subplots. Some of my all time favourites are early 1900s film noir gangster flicks like Casablanca & The Public Enemy. When it comes Korean gangsters, they're so ... civilized compared to western ones & the fact that their deadliest weapon is usually just a baseball bat is simply hilarious to me. Although I do concede that a baseball can do some good damage when handled with deadly force. :-)

You're right, of course! But not having my laptop or at least the iPad makes me feel like a limb is missing. It's not only because I'm totally addicted to MDL talk it's also because of work. Which I know is ironic & counter-intuitive given that we take a vacation to get away from work!

Re: Lovers & the land mortgage. Here's the thing ... a villager in Shin Do, Mi Joo's hometown, put the land up as collateral for money he borrowed from Kang Jæ's gang. Remember Kang Jæ's specialty is loan sharking. When the man is unable to pay up, Kang Jæ seizes the land with the intention of selling it to get his money back. That is why his path keeps crossing with Mi Joo's. She's trying to get him to give them more time to pay or have him drop the mortgage plan all together by using the argument that the island is home to orphan children who would have no where else to live if he boots them off.

Sorry for the late reply. We sailed to Copenhagen on Friday and I forgot my laptop & bf's ipad at home so we haven't been able to surf the net.

Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed Lovers too! The chemistry between Kang Jæ and Mi Joo was SICK ! It kept me watching even though the story and action sequences were good too.

I have both Love Rain and Can You Hear My Heart on the PTW list. I've heard mixed reviews for Love Rain, but I read the synopsis and it struck me as a drama I'd like. Without spoiling what is it about CYHMH that's so great for you?

I won't watch Monstar because I don't watch high school dramas, but Goddess of Fire ... never heard of it. What kind of drama is it? Since you say it has the potential to be a masterpiece I'll have to check it out!

Thx for bringing these dramas to my attention! :)
