I mean they say The Queen couldn't get pregnant because the flower plant made her barren, but how could they be 100% sure? Did they try to make love and see what happened? Well, if they did, we, the audience, heard nothing of it. I find that so ridiculous. No way a King wouldn't at least attempt to lie with his Queen, esp as much as they claimed to be in love. I think the writers could've at least mentioned that the King & Queen made love a couple of times without her getting pregnant. Maybe then her infertility would have been more devastating. But as usual they had to desexualize the characters, making their relations seem rather childish & bland, esp given their supposed epic love for one another. Man, this is why I dislike these types of dramas, esp with young protagonists, because the romance is always rubbish.
If the romance was more like the romance in Too Late To Say I Love You ... then it would have added another dimension to the whole palace intrigue & treachery. It would have been interesting & exhilarating, and raised the stakes even higher for the King & everything he potentially had to lose. This was what made TLTSILY so good. The romance rose the stakes. The leads could lose everything at any moment, so every embrace, every kiss, every time they made love ... literally could be their last. And that made things way more intense; you became totally invested in every moment they had together. However, in TCC the dull romance just slowed the pace down, and could have easily been left out.
So shows like this is the reason why people hate on romance so much. The fact that the romance here was the weakest link annoys me to say because I'm a huge fan of romance, and it irritates me when people are always whining about romance in shows not belonging there. While I don't need romance to enjoy a show, I always prefer & love when it's present. Never thought I'd catch myself saying I wish they'd left out the romance in a drama, but in this case it's the truth. The romance was just one - dimensional and boring. You never felt any passion or excitement or that their love was at stake . Just your typical pure, innocent romance that you see in every darn Kdrama (that isn't one of these more recent modern-day type rom-coms!).
I actually would have preferred to see the romance between Haksan & the Courtesan develop more. Theirs seemed like it would've been a lot more mature and interesting, but of course nothing came of it. A romance between two mature adults of similar age (esp if they're in their 40s) doesn't seem to be something Korean showrunners & viewers find interesting. I mean, I very rarely see this kind of romance in Kdramas. Seems like the only time you can get a decent, mature romance is when it's a noona romance and I don't like those. Otherwise, romance in Kdramas, and most Asian dramas in general, is just a rinse & repeat of the same "pure, innocent" BS. Pure, innocent my a$$! How utterly disappointing!
That being said, this wasn't a bad show, there were some good performances (esp the mad King ... wanted more of him) & I loved Haksan. Loved the direction too, some beautiful wide angle vistas of the beach & cliff's edge and a particular scene when the Queen confronted the King. The music was very appropriate & matching. I don't normally pay attention to music in dramas, but it was really good here. Overall, the drama had potential to be more, though. It was missing that extra oomph, hence my 7/10 rating.
That ending was really unnecessary. Just end it clean- why did the writers just randomly complicate things? It…
I agree it's dumb af, but it wouldn't be a kdrama if they didn't overcomplicate things & toy with our emotions. lol They do this in pretty much every drama that isn't a rom-com! smh
What's really stupid is immature idiots who go around attacking someone for their personal opinions. I'm quite frankly shocked that you would have the audacity to call anyone stupid because of the very height of stupidity & idiocy is attacking someone personally rather than their arguments that you disagree with. See, THAT's what stupid is, stupid. But I'm not expecting the likes of you to grasp that concept. Discernment is not a virtue that's prevalent among the patronage of this site. You're a very clear representation of that.
So l love me some Hyun Bin, but Ju Ji Hoon (Kingdom) owns the role of Crown Prince Lee Chang. He brought complexity, vulnerability and bravery to role in a way that Hyun Binney just couldn't. But this is still enjoyable! And if you're a fan of Hyun Bin, then Rampant is a must watch!
I was wrong for not reading what you wrote correctly and I apologized, twice, for my mistake. What I won't apologize for is you feeling the way you feel because I have no control over your feelings. No one can make you feel anything. Sure, people can influence your emotions, but in the end you choose the way you feel. One day when you get a bit older, you'll remember this exchange and realize that I'm right. Cheers.
Honey, I didn't make you angry. You made yourself angry. You could have chosen to laugh it off and chastise me for being to overzealous about JJH's casting, to the point where I misread your post. But you chose anger ... you did that, not me. Take responsibility for your own emotions. With that said, I do apologize again for misreading your comment!
Man, the ending of S1 got me all f'ked up! Had I known it ended with the monster of all cliff hangers, I would've bloody waited until all the seasons aired. This wait is torture!
Although I understand their point but you're being way too critical about appearances and that a couple must match…
Wow, it's clear you didn't read my comment at all or you didn't read my comment to understand, you read it to be butthurt & argumentative. Because their lack of personality compatibility, which I argued led to their breakup, was literally the entire point of my comment. Just because you disagree with my point about their star signs ... that doesn't negate the fact that I already said THEIR PERSONALITIES WEREN'T COMPATIBLE, THAT'S WHY THEY WEREN'T A GOOD MATCH. That is literally what I wrote. Maybe if you had read my comment you'd have seen that.
Yet, no, you choose to overlook what was clearly stated .... to dwell on a separate point I made about them looking like an odd couple because of their very noticabe difference in countenance (something that is not usual for most couples. Look at most couples & you tend to see a sort of resemblance in some way, which make them look compatible for each other). By the way, to understand this point you'd have to have a little discernment & life experience, none which I can't imagine you possess because the core of this particular comment seemed to have flown straight over your head.
Listen, I don't mind if people disagree with my position, but come with a substantive rebuttal, rather butthurt whining, ok? Because I really hate having to respond to idiotic comments by people with no discernment at all. You literally said the exact same thing *I* already said then act like you're so much more enlightened. Girl bye! My comment was obviously a lot above your pay grade so .... whatever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But what an amazing & thrilling ride! Great production values. Good writing & characterizations. Not a dull moment in sight! Joo Ji Hoon was made for the role of the Crown Prince. Can't wait for the second season! Really hope they maintain the incredible pacing & don't fuck up the ending! Our Prince must survive! For now it's 10/10. This rating is up for debate, but at this point I don't know what else to write. I'll wait for S2 to determine an overall rating.
Is anyone suspicious of the Crown Prince’s royal body gaurd? They mentioned that someone is leaking info to…
I can't bring myself to believe it's him .... although I have to admit it's likely. I figured it would be that incompetent magistrate that's in love with Seo Bi, but really he's way to inept to come up with a scheme like that. So it's probably the bodyguard (hoping/praying it's not because I love their bromance) OR the gun guy.
The next big celebrity couple to divorce within the next two years max is Prince Harry & Megan Markle. They're another misaligned, mismatched couple who should have never gotten together. Maybe because they're so-called 'royal' and all, they might hold out for 3 years to keep up with appearances, but they will *not* last long. Mark my words. I said the same thing about SJK & SHK a long time ago, before DOTS premiered & fangirls jumped on me like rabid animals. But who's got the last laugh now ... hahahaha!!!
