I have rated this 4/10. Never expected to rate a BounPrem series so low!
First of all, the premise of the series had potential. Money-lending and debt-collecting is a rare story and if used correctly, this series can showcase well the dark realities behind such business. Six episodes could have been used wisely, but there were so many empty conversations among the characters with little to no impact on the story. Too many characters and no proper development. The director failed to create a proper rom-com, because there was neither romance nor comedy. For the first time, I am a disappointed by a Wabi Sabi production.
I won't blame the actors because they did what they were instructed. Prem with his orange hair looked like a lost sibling of Jimin and I appreciate Boun's hair stylist. But there was no chemistry between them, unlike their previous shows. In fact, you won't get any romance of BounPrem until last episode and you would wonder how they came to fall in love. To be precise, the side characters Ashing and Mangkorn had more chemistry. It was good to see the actor who played Tar in TharnType after long time.
The story had flaws. Too many flaws. Sun goes to Arthid without properly knowing who is the real debtor. Arthid's friend trick Sun to stay in the island by drugging his food. And the food was drugged by a lawyer. Did Nemo cheat or not and did the lawyer like Nemo? Did Sun remember that Arthid was the kid from his childhood? When exactly Sun started to fall in love with Arthid, considering he always emphasized he hated him? Did Sun's father returned the money to whom he had scammed? And I don't like Sun's father at all. He never showed any remorse to his actions till the end. In fact, in the last scene, he steals money from Ashing's dad.
The only good thing about the show is the scenery of the island. Its really beautiful. If you are a big fan of BounPrem and don't care what trash you watch as long as you can see your favorite pair on-screen, go ahead.
Im Hantae is a green forest literally. He was selfless even years ago when he first met Baram and he remained as such till the end. If only someone takes care of me as Hantae did, I will never let them go out of my life and love them to the core.
Congrats on finishing the series. You finished it in 3 days and didn't have to wait every week for the next. Although…
Yeah I too liked AobPuen and PromNont in the end, though in the beginning I only cared about ZoeyTeena. But midway I suspected something fishy about Zoey and hence I couldn't root them any more. Turns out my guess was right.
BTW, was Playboyy a success? I mean the rating is quite low here and most of the BL fans don't recommend Playboyy too. But, still the crew is teasing S2.
Why Phob take drugs when Nont assured that he will help Nuth to release him from prison? Is he trying to overdoes…
Thanks for the clarification. Nont gonna get real mad when he knows it was Phob. But, I still think maybe Nant didn't die after all, they didn't show his face clearly.
HUGE COMMENT COMING UP! I don't know if I like the series or hate the series. It's somewhere in the middle. Whoever…
Why Phob take drugs when Nont assured that he will help Nuth to release him from prison? Is he trying to overdoes himself and die? And the ending after the credits, did Phob kill Nant? What was the motive, since Nant didn't seem to attack Phob in any way(which means he didn't expect to see Phob)?
I don't know if I like the series or hate the series. It's somewhere in the middle. Whoever watches Playboyy as their first BL might either run away from BL genre for eternity or get addicted to it. I won't say there was too much NC scenes like others. The series clearly mentions, "The series about relationships of 'human' through various definition of sex. The series about relationships that presents 'sex' explicitly". I don't get why people are complaining about this series for explicit scenes...didn't they understand this statement? The only thing that bothered me is people in this series are like horny 24/7. Zoey's gang kept making comments on sex all the time. I don't know if there are people who talk or think about sex all the time, and if there are such people, apologies.
One positive thing about this show it accurately shows the flawed human relationships. Relationships are not flowers and pearls as often portrayed in media. There is nothing like "happily ever after". But, I agree that the lives of the characters in Playboyy are so messed up and I am not sure if it happens in real life too. Every character is flawed and secretive. You don't know whom to root for.
Playboyy deviates from the usual BLs because of its story and it was refreshing to see such an unique plot. I didn't feel bored because I wanted to know the mystery of Nant. However, I did feel that the investigation by Nont was going in circles, coming at nowhere. Since the characters were secretive, no one bothers to reveal it until the last moment. When I knew about Zoey's secret in the end, I realized there was chances of saving Nant.
In case of acting, they were all good, considering the fact that all of them are rookies and they are in their 20's. Even pro actors would have shied away from playing characters in this series but yet all the actors looked confident and comfortable in BTS. The BTS made me fall in love with KaowOat. The direction was excellent because it was P'Cheewin who is known for his works. All couples had good chemistry in my opinion but my least favorite couple would be PorscheJump. I loved that one couple - SoongFirst - communicated in English. I didn't root for any ship much but eventually I started liking AobPuen and NontProm and NuthPhob sort of grew on me, and their ending just broke me.
There are several plotholes and unanswered questions, and since there is a S2, I hope everything gets cleared. I have one doubt which I have asked in the spoiler, please someone clarify it for me.
S2 was lot better than S1. I didn't know about J-min before but he was so cute here. I liked all three couples, which is rare because I don't usually like multiple couples within a drama. Though I must say Kim An's backstory confused me - Kim An was an orphan and that creepy guy is from the same orphanage as him and they were like siblings, but then Kim An developed feelings for him. The creepy guy wanted to maintain the same status but immediately want to bond with Kim An when he saw him with Lee Hyun. Why he was behaving in such way and why did he spread rumors about Kim An and eventually framed for his suicide? I didn't understand that part and why suddenly he returned to Kim An and even tried to kill him but eventually spared his life? If someone understands Kim An's story please do explain me. Joo Hyuk's and Sung Min's intimate scenes shocked me because usually KBLs aren't up for it. The only KBLs with half naked intimate scenes other than this show could be Only Friends? movie and Long Time No See. (T8S was comparatively less intimate then the once I mentioned). Overall, I enjoyed it. The last episode was so fluffy. BTW, I really liked the professor lady and Sara, who are very non-judgmental. And I really need a spinoff or a full series with the Uncle Professor and The College Guy. That was so unexpected yet sweet.
Wow...this could have taken a lot of research and time. Thanks though! In India, hoodie culture is pretty rare since most of the region have hot and humid climate. But, I really want to buy a hoodie...my mom doesn't allow saying it might make me sweat more and she's right - I sweat a lot even without hoodies.
Extraordinary Watcher You: Most popular dramas bore you to death, so you often go off the beaten path to find the hidden gems no one knows about. Your Watched list is full of titles with less than 500 watchers on MDL. You know your taste is different than others, and you have peace with that. Drama watching is a personal experience, who cares about the popular opinions?
I have to say it. If anyone is complaining about the problem in this but LOVED TharnType congratulations! You…
You are absolutely right about TharnType. When I had just entered BL world, TharnType didn't seem that bad. But now I look back at it, I can see it was full of red flags.

I agree with half of it.
