I'm on episode 17 and so far, there's nothing wrong per se. Actings are decent; relationships are very healthy so far. But it's just, idk, very dry? It has cute moments but nothing revolutionary i guess. Something that i note (as a non chinese speaker) is that the SML (the male best friend, wang zijian) accents sounds very unique to me, is he dubbed or is that his real voice?
She's so mean to him, he took her in and clothed her beautifully when she was stuck at his place and she keeps…
To be fair, he did try to kill her in the beginning. Then again this story doesn't seem like it has too many materials to sustain full length 24 eps so I guess we just have to deal with a lot of these unnecessary tropes lol
After finishing all 24 eps, here are some things that i like (and few that i don't)
I love and i mean LOVE the aesthetic. People can say whatever about the coloring being too cold or the lighting being too dark but I don't care. Every single scene is shot beautifully, flawless fighting choreography and special effects. Props to the actors and crews who must've done a lot to pull those stunts!
However, talking about aesthetic, i can't not mention about the poor makeup choice. It's been bothering me since the first episode. It's either the foundation is too bright, or they put too much bronzer on the outer edges, or it could be that the make up just doesn't work with the lighting, idk.
Another thing that I really enjoy is the front and back hill bros (and sis) along with the dynamics. I really really enjoy them being together, whether when they bickers, or when they band together to blow up things. I can't believe we've been deprived of those fun for so long. They're so much better when they're together, like, if there's going to be s2, i really hope ziyu will change the rules that basically banned the back hill boys to go the front hill or vice versa.
Talk about the backhill bros tho, i wonder what will happen to the Hua family now that they no longer have any descendant left. Are they just going to adopt any random kid and named him hua or something? Now that I think about it, is it forbidden for the backhill resident to get married? So they just have to keep adopting kids?
On the relationship aspect, i honestly don't feel much about any of the couple, but i also have nothing to complain in particular. However, on anything else; family, friendship, comradeship, is where the drama really shines. During the yunque and young master yue episode, sure they have a really tragic history, but when i saw the agony in hanya si's face while he has to watch yunque die, when he embraces her dead body and sings the song for the last time (i have a suspicion that it was him who taught her that song) like howwww can i not bawwlllll T^T. Also did I mention how I really enjoy the gong bros (and sis) dynamics? The push and pull, and the mischiefs. Please, if there's ever going to be season 2, please give me more of those!
Overall, quite an entertaining watch, and i enjoyed every second of it. It drags a bit in the middle part, but still managed to pull that kind of ending; for this type of genre it's already a win in my book.
1) do we already know the identity of leader of wufeng - DIANZHU from qingfeng sect? Or is she just a high ranking…
2) I have a suspicion, far before it's confirmed(?) that wuji is the anon, that someone's on a mission to make ziyu the sword wielder. Now, whether this has something to do with wufeng or it's just wuji's personal mission out of her attachment to Lady Lan or sth, remains to be seen. If it has something to do with wufeng, then the ultimate objective of all the mission going on now is probably to create chaos in gong's household, because they assume ziyu is the weakest link of all the gong bros in line of the sw position. Which also make sense why wufeng chose to reveal the existence of spy brides. And to send not one, not two, but three spies at the same time. It's the true definition of chaotic evil. Now the anonymous is here to further adds more spice into this chaos and, voila.
People arguing about which couple is best are like the two ravens arguing which one of their two students is best, or like the gong brothers constantly insisting which one of them is going to be the most worthy sword wielder XD No offense. It's just getting old. There's a whole thread for that in the discussion section, so how about we move on. On another note. Why has no one mentioned THE EXQUISITE FIGHTING SCENE today like, damn, what a feast for the eyes.
It took me a while to really get on board. The cases and detective works feels a bit scooby-doo-ish. That said, after di feisheng got introduced the story definitely picked up. Now i'm on ep 14 and i really enjoy the three leads dynamics.

This kinda feels like AoS all over again where theories and discussions are more interesting than the actual drama XD Also, reading few comments below where the show decided to cut some parts, that is actually important for the characterization, makes me kinda confused. Like, why would they think that we (as viewers) not going to want to see a character that we could root for? Why do they feel the need to water him down? 🤔
