THE NERVE of the Professor acting like he now cares to protect Si Eun from Seo Ban when she begged you to stay with her but you left her for someone who didn't love you. I can't stand him! He deserves all the Karma coming his way. All the cheaters do.

Sa Hyun is so boring now and it doesn't help that the new actor has zero screen presence. His parents are a little shameless for even asking BHR for another chance. I'm sure there are going to move on to Ami or the stage actress now.

I'm confused that BHR wants a kid now? I am not exactly sure what could have made her change such a drastic decision. Just because her ex's baby is adorable? I would prefer the writers allowed her to find someone who is perfectly happy with her not being a mother. Maybe SPY's ex? the old YS would match her BDE lol.

I am so here for Sa Piyoung. I didn't think I was going to like it but I love how happy and schoolgirl crush she is. It's fun to watch her be silly and unrestrained compared to when she was married.

I love Seo Ban unapologetically standing up for himself to his dad. Idk why Cheabols always try to control their kids' marriages when they can just marry for love and have fewer chances of divorce.

Idk I feel like the last scene of season one placed him to be the hero. The good guy who will save others from the same experiences he went through. He makes a big sacrifice to go destroy the game. Lol sounds pretty Heroic

I am sincerely curious why you feel that way?
I didnt think I was going to agree with you but you actually highlighted a lot of good points and I have to say your view is pretty insightful and I have to agree.
I agree GI Hoon had A TON of plot armor. He was clumsy, slow, and indecisive. Which is not to put he down because the pressure of the games was intense but there were stronger players who were more smart about the games that deserved to win. Sae Byeok, Sang Woo, Mi Nyeok, Gangster guy.

The concept of equality and fairness never made sense to me when they started allowing players to kill each other outside of the games. Also the mare fact that the old man helped Gi Hoon win the game contradicts it.

Thanks for your feedback, I found it to be very interesting to read from someone who looked at the characters…
Thank you for sharing your opinion. I like how you point out that Gi Hoon's heroism is magnified when next to him is Sang Woo and therefore two side of a coin that cant help to be compared.

Also agree that many people have heroic moments in the game but that doesn't exactly make them heroes. Even KSB stole money from Gi Hoon and that was a pretty awful thing to regardless of her situation. Even Ali attacks his Boss who was an asshole but still it was assault so at the end of the day everyone had something about them that made them a criminal. Except Mi Nyeo bc we dont get her background story.

I am a huge fan of Korean drama but have managed to avoid Squid Games as it sounds rather violent, even reprehensibly…
To be honest its traumatizing and I watched it before it went viral. I tend to avoid Viral content but its very realistic and eye wakening in humanity. I am a big advocate on human trafficking and the exploitation of poverty so I appreciated a show like this being able to reach to the masses. However I would say if you avoided it for your own mental well being then you shouldn't watch it. Its very dark and twisted.

I don't think Gi Hoon's decision to return to the games indicates he is irresponsible. Rather, it was two responsibilities…
Oou I like this perspective actually, however this would depend on season two and how he is actually going to go about taking down the game makers, sponsors & front man. Since he likely cant destroy the game in any ethical way (going to the police or the media) but will instead have to participate again in the game and somehow bring them down from the inside.
Based on your comment would you say that if someone saw Gi Hoon as hero in season 1 then he will become an anti-hero in season 2?

The true hero was Sang Woo because he done EVERTHING that he needed
He is so underrated tbh lol I think everyone hate him for what he did to Ali. I wish they would do an episode of his story line from season 1 from his point of view. It would really help people sympathize with him. I would say he is an anti-hero.

That sounds pretty dark and I think im understanding why we have different views on this.
Deciding who is worthy of living is almost like playing God. The old man himself wanted to live and that should have been reason enough to play the game fairly.
In my culture and definitely in Korean culture as well, old people have more knowledge of history and wisdom and thus are valuable to society. Korea values seniority and Filial Piety. This is why during war or crisis they usually say to save the young, the old, and then the women.

Its more than being a bad dad, Its being an awful person all around. He was an awful dad, an awful son, an awful husband & ex-husband. More importantly he assaulted someone who was offering him money in exchange of a request to keep his distance. If he didnt like the proposal he simply could have turned down the request and money like any stable adult should. However I have a feeling we are going to look at his crime/assault differently based on what your thoughts on terminal illnesses.

Agreed with the last sentiments as well as the fact that Sang Woo was an anti-hero.

I can’t call Gi Hoon a hero though, he stole money from an elderly woman and punched a man for asking him to a keep a distance from his family due to his toxic behaviors. No apologies or attempt to resolve it with his child, instead he runs away. He gambles his daughters bday present money. He takes advantage of an old man’s illness to save himself knowing the old man would also die.

More Squid Game topics and articles?... ugh... I'm getting tired and sick of it already...
Im Sorry! It is easier to just ignore the articles you do not want to read and continue scrolling. At least thats what I do to protect my mental health (avoid stress) and maintain my peace. Just a thought! Hope your day turned out better!

Thanks for the thoughts! Im very not interested in Gi Hoon's revenge either, I am actually a little tired of watching him. The first season luckily had a lot of other interesting character so it sort of made it easier for me to enjoy. Maybe second season will give two different timelines with flashbacks of Frontman's story while also showing the present time line with GH going toe to toe with Gi Hoon.

An anti-hero drama doesn't have to have a hero. Most anti-hero movies don't. It's hero movies that can have an…
Thanks for your feedback, I found it to be very interesting to read from someone who looked at the characters in an opposite lense from my own.
In my subjective view I would not agree that Gi Hoon was an anti-hero. However I also recognize that everyone has a different definition of what a hero is so it could be the same for anti-hero.
Example: Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are different type of heroes and Iron man was narcissistic and at many times selfish. Scarlet Witch is a different Hero from Black Widow but are both seen as heroic.

I am not a big Harry Porter fan so I am not familiar with who Snape is.

However, I felt like Gi Hoon didn't really do much antagonistic things to deserve that title except maybe disappointing the people who love him. I just saw him as a shitty son and a shitty dad. Usually anti-heros have their own unique philosophies to life (I.E Vincenzo, Flower of Evil, Devil Judge, etc) but in his case Gi Hoon didn't have much direction, organization or discipline.

At least his friend wanted to be successful again, he wanted to redeem his failure in business and win the money by any means necessary and so he strategically found evil ways to win the games. Even the Gangster guy had his own motivations and tactical ways in how he moved in the game and placed himself at the top of the food chain.

I do agree with you that Kang Sae Byeok didnt have as much screen time but she was in my opinion the second most impactful character in the game. At least based on articles published about her character and the amount of fans the actress gained.

In terms of the cop, he definitely killed at least one person or two and not because he was forced or out of self-defense. His mission to infiltrate the game was also not sanctioned by police force so he is working rogue. I actually see him more as an anti-hero.
