I don’t think Eugine will remain a devoted American patriot. I think his interests have already started to shift. Hence why he tried to help the King. One thing as a U.S soldier is that you are only loyal to the U.S flag and nothing else. Should the U.S pull out all its military personnel out of Korea, I don’t see Eugine leaving Ae Shin to go back to the states.

Lmaooo I Agree he is like the historical creep. I think what actually bothers me more about him is how hostile he is towards Eugine and Ae Shin’s fiancé like he even has a chance with her.

Then when he is in front of her he keeps doing things to annoy her without much of explanation.

I read a book called lost you forever and EVERYONE shipped the FL with all 3 men and I couldn’t understand it at all.
Then this drama came into my life and I can just relate to all three male leads. My heart hurts For the the two that she is not romantically involved with as well.

I feel like Eugine is going to die and Ae Shin will remain alone and continue to fight for Korea.

Eugine’s friendship with his fellow soldier is starting to give me DOS bromance vibes.

However I think to have hatred toward the human you gave birth to because they disappointed you is a bit excessive. But you are right, everyone in this drama is screwed up.

She could have divorced his ass and never had to deal with him but she refused. She kept herself in a place where she would be emotionally abused because she didn’t want to have financial struggles.

Expectation has killed a lot of people actually. Many children in Korea commit suicide because of the burden of expectation parents put on their children.

Secondly my comment has nothing to do with the men in the family. If my husband cheated on me he can keep the house I wouldn’t care as long as he quickly disappears from my sight. I would never subject myself to what she tolerated just to keep a family together or to keep a house and his income for that matter. I would rather die of starvation. However I am an able bodied person who can work and earn her own money.

My comment was discussing her treatment of her son. She suffocated her own child with expectations that her husband couldn’t fulfill. She didn’t let him live his own life and God forbid both parents traumatized a boy at his most fragile stage of life. When he was going puberty, other boys were playing video games and he had to pick up pieces that his father broke. She expected too much out of someone who is only learning about the world. Both her and her husband ruined their own child.

When he decided to live his own life then she feels “abondoned” and begins to “hate her own child”. That’s psychotic!!

This drama is slaying my life right now. All the actors, even the kids are really good. Even Hinas character is becoming bearable.

Completely agree with you

1. It’s based on real life events and real life political figures but many characters are fiction. Especially the lead characters.

2. I can not answer this as my knowledge of Korea prior to the Japanese occupation is very limited.

3. It tries it’s best to stay neutral. It mostly points to the flows of Korea and highlights the power of Japan, and the U.S

At first I was not fond of the slow pace of this drama. I was expecting Goblin's fast pace sequence and drama. However besides the two having the same writer, they are completely different stories.
This one is more about details, I can now appreciate its slow pace now because I am completely absorbed into the Joseon. The only other show that had this capability for me was Game of Thrones. Where I become attached to everyone, from the slaves, the servants, and the masters. Even the potential bad guys I either love to hate or hate to love them.

The only thing I am not looking forward to is that this time period for Korea is a time where really bad things have not even started. I see a lot of pain and heartbreak for all the characters because Japan win big for a long time and Korea loses big for a much longer time.

Just ignore the romance and focus on other parts of the story. Right now the 2 leads have minimal romantic interaction

Hina’s infatuation for Eugine make no sense for me? Like how did she even get a chance to like him? What does she like about him? His looks and power? Pretty shallow no?
