Same. When I saw those comments on Tiktok, it made me curious. Still not a drama that will stay in my mind, but…
I have been living in the UK for a decade now and I can tell you it is an extremely LGBTQ-friendly country. Seriously, if you make a homophobic remark in society you are persona non grata straight away. Those British actors may well have been closeted to the public because they do not wanna be typecast but there are plenty of openly gay actors celebrities just like in Thailand. In Thai, Korean and Japanese show business it is more about to maintain the illusion to delulu fans that the stars are still available. That is why they are officially always single in 95%.
I've been trying to see what people are talking about concerning Phuwin's acting, but I can't see it. I would…
I have déja vu experience of peer pressure that is way too typical on this board (notably when Bite Me was airing but on many other occasions also). This show is not flawless but it feels like people just jump on a bandwagon and nitpick on every tiny detail they disregard and overlook elsewhere. I usually avoid checking comment sections and I am just getting myself through the first few episodes to make my own judgements, and once again I feel like I am watching something completely different. One wtf out of proportion comment after another. No wonder I am less and less active here.
He was playing a comedic role in I'm Tee, Me Too. I can see his comedic side in a lot of his fanservice videos…
Yes, but in I'm Tee, Me Too he was a stoical comic character and not a fumbling one. I agree he could be stiff but imho he was often emotional in his BL roles too, particularly in Dark Blue Kiss.
Only technically. There are other laws that effectively make it 18, especially if someone contests it. And why…
I did not mean that he should not be concerned, that is understandable. But the procedure is not that automatic as it seemed to be presented in the episode. Joe told Army that he was going toi get him arrested, and that is total nonsense, since it is not a criminal offence, and a third person cannot submit SR rape charge. In each case there are court procedures whenever someone is charged, the conditions and circumstances are examined, and it is quite unlikely to be charged if the 17 years old one is proven to be a sexually active and promiscuous person. I cannot help but feel it was put there with the purpose of catering western viewers, especially when Army suggested Cha Yen to have sex with someone of his age. That is a typical western hangup while the Thai penal code does not have close-in-age exemption, so if the statutory rape charge were really taken that seriously, that could technically be applied against a minor too. As for what is ok and what is not, generically saying that it is not okay to sleep with someone under 18 is wrong. 18 is just an arbitary number and the age consent is way below that in most of the world, including Thailand, but even in the west - and for good reason. Some people are sexually mature at 16, some are not evern mature at 30, and some people are never, but boys, especially gay ones, generally start to have sex drive as well as sex life way before that. The Thai dream couple Booth and Newyear have started their relationship when Newyear was 17 also while Booth was 24. They have been together for 10 years. I doubt anyone could have the adudacity to tell them they did anythig wrong.
It is not exclusive to Taiwan. If you watch some Thai lakorns, parents generally beat their kids, even if they…
Now you are really digging yourself deeper and deeper in abuse apologia. Because that is what you do. It does not matter how many times you start your sentences with "I don't defend.." when you do it right after. Just like racists who always start their tirade with "I am not racist, but...". Now you have managed to twist the whole thing to come to the conclusion that not letting domestic abuse be swept under the rug and normalized in the name of cultural differences is racism. You really just cannot make it up.
Newsflash for you: abused people - child or adult - are conditioned to feel the abuse they receive is normal and they deserve it. So if they said they do it does not mean they are not abused. This is not something to be decided by majority vote anyway, not to mention majority is more often wrong than right in this post-truth world
You are really not the brightest bulb in the candelier to put it mildly. When someone is using extremist examples it is called metaphor and rhetorical exaggeration precisely to emphasize the parallel way of thinking could have such extreme results. So instead of calling others ignorant, while you are the one, and ridiculously commanding the other party to be ashamed, go back to school and learn these grammatical turns or seek the help of a specialist to sort out your functional illiteracy.
I am a well-travelled Eastern European who has been living in a foreign country on the other side of the continent for about a decade now and I am just about to obtain dual citizenship. My boyfriends - among others - included one Thai, one Indian, one Paki and two Pinoy guys. Hence I am experienced in both living in a different cultural environment and being in relationship with Asians, so you can shove your patronising and condescending lectures up where the Sun does not shine. You are the one who seems to be in need of a good lesson.
The family members of my Asian bfs were all way too meddling and overbearing for my taste, but I chose to endure it, because they were important for my partners, and it was an acceptable compromise. My bfs were also way less individualistic and they all relied way too much on their family in their personal decision-making about how they live their life than what I was accustomed for, but I have endured this also because it was still an acceptable compromise and I adapted to their cultural traditions.
But I would never have accepted them being abused, hit, beaten by their parents because that is out of the acceptable level of cultural differences. Thankfully I never had to face such dilemmas, because none of my boyfriends had such parents who have ever laid a finger on them. Apparently their parents comprehended that just because they might have been beaten by their parents they do not necessarily have to follow this abhorrent behaviour and call it Asian culture.
The thinking human kind does not swallow every cultural difference with a burp indiscriminately. It is possible to be open to differences and various traditions, but there have to be border lines and boundaries, and abuse is certainly one of them. Assuming you want to be a decent human being, it is up to you. Like I said , beating your child has once been the norm all over the world and it has changed. Because not every tradition is worth preserving. Somo of them need to be binned forever.
I am breathing when the air is running out. My tip: think.
Palm’s dad is a piece of shit. I would love to see once in a lifetime a horrible parent being called out for what they are in an Asian show but I have zero hope.
I disagree that Newie is that relaxed because it is a non BL role. I am sure that is not the case. He has not been this relaxed in his straight roles so far either. This is the first time he is playing a free-wheeling, misadventureous, hapless and fumbling comic character totally against his usual typecast, and he is apparently dabbling in this challenge.
Wow that was hot!! Fluke is much more likable here than in his other series. He's really playing a gay person,…
The 2 seasons of Gay OK Bangkok and Friend Zone have a kind of similar natural and permissive talk and interpretation of the characters’ sex life, I would say. And they were also directed by Jojo. He has a penchant for this sort of stuff, and that is a breath of fresh air, especially at GMMTV.

Statutory rape primarily applies, according to my Thai ex, when it is proven the minor has been schemed into the sexual intercourse by a sort of authority figure like teacher or coach. In general, it is very debatable, and especially when it is proven by the court the minor has an active sex life via dating apps, it rarely qualifies as grooming or such.
Age consent in Thailand is 15 so this “I don’t wanna go to jail” from Army is pretty much unreal. The statutory rape issue applies in some specific cases under 18, but that is not the case here.

If you scroll back a few pages, several Asian commenters, including a Taiwanese man, freaked out over the justification of parental abuse after the last episode, and so were they under About Youth.
But I suppose you have no problem convincing yourself that women love being stoned to death and gays love being burned alive in Iran, as well as gays enjoy being deported to concentration camps in Chechnya in the name of cultural diversity.
What is it with American shows a them normalising toxic parents who allow children to waste their future. (Sarcasm).1.…
Fuck this "different culture" and "importance of family bond in Asia" bullshit. No one is more open to different cultures and traditions than me, but that has limits and does not include condoning abuse. This treatment of children as your property and that your parents are always your parents never mind how physically and mentally abuse you has once been the standard in the western world also and it has changed. So don't tell me that just because it is Asia it has to stay like this till the end of the world. And dramas would be the percfect instrument to start to change this mentality. I would be the last person to say that fictional shows need to be educational all the time, but the fact no show ever tries to go this route just once is infuriating.
what is with taiwanese shows and them normalizing toxic parents? Like, Xun An is a full adult, he is free to like…
It is not exclusive to Taiwan. If you watch some Thai lakorns, parents generally beat their kids, even if they are adults. And it is always justified. What is really infuriating that apparently no screenwriter has the courage to challenge this abhorrent behaviour.
This series seems to be a deliberate piss-taking for the victorian neo-puritans who lose their shit over the fact that minors do have sex drive and actually have sex as well. For this alone to piss over them it is worth appreciation . Pass the popcorn.
