Hua Fei got so exasperating towards the end, she got away with so much. Her life was just so sad though; if you really think about it she was the only woman who truly loved the emperor with a sincere heart along with early Zhen Huan before the birth of her daughter.

I felt that way the first time I watched it. I’ve recently finished watching it a 2nd time and yep the emperor is indeed a villain. His paranoia and obsession with keeping the throne is what makes him uncaring of whoever he has to get rid of to stay on the throne. The way he dispenses with concubines, court officials and even his brother is stone cold. Another thing we have to remember is that he only ascended the throne after a bloodbath between him and his brothers.

Best chemistry and relationship progression I’ve seen in a long time. Loved the main couple, grandpa and all the workplace buddies. It dragged in parts but the relaxed and realistic chemistry between the leads is a winner and kept me watching to the end.
