Title Nancheng Banquet Spoiler
This is going to be a bit of a rant about the illogic of mortal wounds, miraculous recoveries, and unbelievable forgiveness that I find in so many historical Chinese and Korean dramas. After watching episode 21, I asked my husband, “If I stabbed you through the heart with a sword, would you forgive me and want to stay with me?” He said, “You mean I’m alive?” which is the other point I want to make. How can the hero be so viciously hurt and recuperate the next day? How could ML forgive and be so understanding when he has struggled all his life with injustice for him and his family? Is this part of eastern philosophy? I see it over and over in dramas, and I struggle to believe this part of the fantasy much more than accepting people fly and fight off 20 or 30 bad guys all alone, then go to a banquet the same evening and charm everyone. Maybe it’s just me? Maybe I need a break.🤷🏼‍♀️

He really did look difficult from himself when playing happy vs. depressed. I thought it was a different actor…
Yes, and I just realized I wrote “difficult from himself” when I meant “different”; some day I will proofread before posting, lol, although tbh, I have often felt difficult from my own self, so 😂

My eyes nearly popped out; I hope no children accidentally see this part because it is nightmare territory. But it wasn’t enough to stop me, lol.

I adore Chen Xin Hai (saw him in Falling Before Fireworks and Moonlight; he’s only 22) and hope his role in this is a good one.

I had to relook when husband came on screen, thought it was ML😅
I thought the same. Wonder why they cast an actor so similar looking to the main lead? He did a great job, though.

Best way to learn chinese is by watching a long series with repetitive exposure to similar words.
I really wish I could learn languages this way, but my brain does something with subtitles. I think I’m hearing English and totally tune out the other. This is with volume set at normal, too, although I might as well mute it as far as hearing another language is concerned. I’m totally aware of the music and environmental sounds, though. I wish this was a desirable skill, because I’m good at it, lol.

I just can’t help but feel like it’s not fair for li zerui. He did bad things but what about things they did…
I honestly can’t get over it. Totally agree that the drama ending was unfair to Li Zerui. Jing Bo Ran played him so heartbreakingly well that I’m almost convinced he was a real person. I do think this is the best role I’ve seen this wonderful actor play, and he was already amazing in my book. I am actually grieving over this drama!

Title Young Babylon Spoiler
None of the comments here really get straight to the point and have the answers im looki m for. Happy ending or…
It was unclear to me whether or not they will be a couple. The six friends are together at the end and seemingly enjoying life, but the conclusion was vague. ML and FL are certainly good friends, but there was no loving kiss or any indication that I noticed which said they are or will be a couple. So the ending is kind of happy but not blissful.

There are many lessons to be taken from this drama such as, you can’t stop progress; businesses have life cycles just like people; if one job falls through get another one even if you’ve worked for the same factory most of your life. But the only teaching that stays with me (because it has appeared in drama after drama) is that if your loved one doesn’t return your commitment with the same energy, for goodness sake, move on. I have seen so many cdramas (and kdramas) lately with a ML who falls head over heels for the FL who will play hard to get or who is super career-minded and needs a ton of persuasion to reciprocate his love or who maybe never does love him. And that’s fine for the FL; she is entitled to the kind of life she wants. But a ML who clings to her despite everything just tries my patience to the breaking point. When I see a charming, handsome ML like this one not leave his yearning for her and find another woman who will appreciate him, I start thinking he has an obsession and needs therapy, lol. I know some like to think there is one perfect mate in this world who is the only one for you, but I am here to say there are probably many you can find happiness with. Be steady and single-minded once you are married, but before that open your eyes and find someone who cherishes you. If the ML and FL were married in this story, I believe he would constantly have to tiptoe around her and worry that he is not pleasing her. Move on! I just can’t stand this kind of fruitless pining away. Maybe it’s just me.
