Personally I find them cute together, ZY is seriously crashing on SY and those scenes are very endearing to me.
I also believe that RM acting is pretty natural , unlike other ‘cutesy’ female characters I have seen in cdramas over the years. To me she’s one of the best female leads XZ has worked with.

Respectfully, I disagree, their chemistry is great and keeps getting better as the connection between them grows stronger. Wang Churan is pretty but she doesn’t fit the character of ZY at all

TTEOM was big mainly because of the negative marketing Youku gave it. It actually hurt both lead’s reputation, especially the ML. Even though the drama earned lots of money for Youku.
That’s why I don’t want them to compete, as long as audiences like Xiao Zhan’s portrayal we are good.

There definitely are kisses, at least two . One underwater (it was shared by the official drama account today) and at least one more long kiss . some paparazzi posted footage of XZ&RM filming a long kiss scene

Interesting point, I am inclined to agree with you on everything except for the part that XZ trying to give a standard xianxia character more depth creates dissonance. For me, yes XZ’s performance is more nuanced than you typically see in a drama like this, but his character allows it and , imo, it’s a good thing, it contributes to the drama viewing experience. Rumor has it XZ made them rewrite the script before he agreed to do this drama for Tencent (I think he had to do one costume drama as Tencent spokesperson)
But I doubt XZ will ever play in a drama like this again, looks like he’s attracted to more serious roles . Still, I hope to see him in a costume again , maybe something historical

I think that’s partly cause his character in Where Dreams Begin is just deeper and more complex maybe . I hope he takes on more roles like that in the future

Honestly, Xiao Zhan improves so fast it’s almost scary

I see some cdrama actors’s fans camping on this page , just know that we see you and we know you know XZ is better than your faves in all aspects. Which apparently keeps you awake at night . I hope you at least get paid for all the hard work you do here 🤣

I think that’s mostly because 1) Xiao Zhan is good at portraying emotions 2) we see his inner monologue. To an outsider Shi Ying would definitely seem like a cold person
