What character development? He was always a bad selfish character. That hasn't changed, his character is consistent.

Yes with so many heavy scenes, it would be nice to have some balance of humor to lighten it up. I was expecting some especially with the ML and his band of brothers.

Same screenwriter as Prisoner of Beauty and I can see that in the FL's character. The FL is warm and giving, unlike so many other dramas I've watched. I couldn't finish BoP because the FL annoyed me so much with her coldness for so long to the point I didn't care anymore.

I'll even say she did more to maintain their relationship. She was the one who asked the ML to marry her and he was the one hesitating with the marriage. She believed in him and waited for him during his 5 years at war, and never wavered on her love and trust in him.

Ep 18 is so good! I love a FL who will give and sacrifice as much for the ML!! Not to diminish the ML's efforts but we see that all the time in various dramas so it's not as refreshing when we see the FL making equal effort on the relationship.

YES this is how you write a 5 years time jump! I thought the separation was going to be filled with angst but it just flew by and both accomplished so much on their own.

I think it's inline with his character. He 'fell in love' with 2FL after he learned about her book collection. Then he disliked her after he learned that she didn't value the books. Him 'falling in love' with FL because he saw her reading to the girls. Perfectly in line with his past behaviour lol

Ep 16: when 2ML asks the FL to turn back and look at him, I had to laugh at Sanniang look of disbelief, 'is this guy for real!?" lol

I was referring to the 2FL. She was living in the Yu household before marriage.

But that didn't stop engaged ladies from living in the fiancé's home before marriage. First time I've seen that.

Definitely not a guest. She has more scenes than her son up to ep 10.

Why is Mrs Yu listed as guest role? She is definitely a support role.

I was hoping there was a discussion above about the salt situation during that time period and why there were salt smugglers and snow ground salt. I started this but kind of lost with the whole salt issue. Can some knowledgeable person please explain this to me?

I can understand filial piety but throughout the drama I feel like Baihui will have a mental breakdown any minute the way she held everything in. It would be great to see her show some anger and let lose for once. The way they were beating her down her whole life and saying she's not good enough really pissed me off so that mild confrontation didn't really show the parents what they did was wrong.

This was such a good drama and made me cry. The FL is best FL character I have watched and she was so young.
