I just found out they're actually filming parts of the movie in my city!!!!!
Like, right now!!!! Here, in Latvia, in our Riga! :D
My emotions...a complete and utter mess!! Fangirl overload XD
I would've never thought I'd get to see the actors whose work I adore even if I went to South Korea...but they've actually come here! To our small but lovely country :D
You bet I'm gonna go see the filming process ^^

It doesn't matter, zhao li ying doesn't look 32 she still look like teen she's so cute and with her acting skills…
Zhanilia does indeed look young...but not 16 young. Not anymore. She can easily play the part, but not look the part. At least not to my eyes. I'd believe it if she played at least a 20yo or mid 20s, but not the teen years.
Unless they use some super, extra amazing make-up skills...

Her role in MingLan made it pretty obvious. She did amazing acting there yes, but her character's look in the teen years...it had the feel of youth and they certainly tried their best to make her appear young with the hairstyle, but you could see the age/wiseness of the actress show through at times.
Of course, for a role like MingLan they were correct to cast just one actress to portray the character throughout her teen to adult life years, but unless this drama also portrays a character's lifetime...Zhanilia as 16yo won't work on me.

But then again, considering how most girls these days apply makeup and look twice their age...like old/sexed up women instead of young girls....yeah, Zhanilia can look "16" all right. She'd definitely pull off a more youthful look than the actual youths.

I like this, it will allow me to better filter out dramas! :D
From super popular ones to see how much people have dropped it, and for less popular ones - how many have actually completed it.
Gives a better perspective to me ;)

2020 is coming fast...I wonder when the drama will air?
It's been months since they finished filming so cgi, editing and ost and everything should also be done by now, no? Hmmm
Don't even care anymore what cast got changed so long as they do a good job portraying their characters, because there are still plenty of old cast who stayed and we know they will do great ;)

And here I was being all foolishly excited for Zhanilia's new drama...
I wouldn't mind the age difference since 22 is an adult and as long as the actor does good...

but the heroine being 16?seriously? They want Zhanilia to act a 16 year old? Oh come on! Why won't they give these fabulous actresses age appropriate roles?
There are plenty of younger actresses who are also good and way closer to actually being 16!

Sigh, guess will have to wait for the 1st trailer to drop to consider whether it'll be worth watching

Sadly, story of our life - even though it all started with manga & anime for me and these past 5 years asian dramas as well...you bet my family still doesn't understand it and frowns upon it. Even though I have now liked manga/anime for more than half of my life, you'd think they'd accept it by now - nope.
The moment it's something out of the ordinary - suspicious eyes my way.
Hell, the same thing was when I started colouring in adult colouring books 2 years ago - they were like: who does that? Only children colour.
(-_-)
It's not like I'm asking them to like it as well, I just wish they'd let me be and I can mention it now & then in peace without a negative comment from them in return.

It's sad how some people are so stuck in their little world and can not accept different cultures and arts and aren't understanding/accepting of hobbies that are not like their own or largely known in the society.
Even sadder when it's your own family.

But I partly blame our history as well, because I have noticed that in my country it's the older generations that are more narrow minded and not accepting of something widely different - my parents are a product of Soviet Union since our country was occupied for decades and it has greatly shaped their character. The isolation from the world outside Soviet Union did not help at all. Partly for my older siblings as well (they're 6 years older than me).
I got lucky and the year I was born we finally got our freedom back so I grew up in a free country without occupation. But obviously, I had to grow up with the consequences of all the decades of oppression. I suppose we need 1 or 2 more generations to get completely free of the occupation remains. So at least I understand where they're coming from and why they are the way they are.
Therefore, for the older people - traveling abroad and enjoying the different cultural sights & traditions is just fine, but liking such things like manga/anime/asian dramas? Oh no, that's just not done.
Then starting from around my generation (I'll be 27 this November) and younger, yeah, we're accepting and think nothing of it. Case in point, my 8 years younger sister also watches k-dramas and I have several friends and acquaintances who like manga/anime/dramas.
I guess my generation has it easy because it was with us that computers became widely used not just in school but a personal computer for each family as well and so we had easy access through internet to pretty much everything.
Globalisation has also been a huge help.
So yeah, the environment the older generations grew up in us to be partly blamed for their narrow minded views.

It's sad my family (expect little sis with dramas) just won't accept my hobby, but at least I have friends/acquaintances who do.

Well, should I one day have kids of my own, I'll raise them to be broadminded and understanding.
Same goes for my nieces & nephew, since I babysit them quite often XD

To avoid slumps I switch not just countries (though k-dramas and c-dramas remain a strong favourite followed by j-dramas, but some lakorn is thrown in now & then as well) but also switch...hobbies?loves?

So when it feels like no drama is good enough and I've rewatched my fav dramas yet again...I go back to reading books and manga, watching anime, amv's or some US/UK/etc tv series, looking for new music, colouring in my colouring books, making amv's/wallpapers, doing some crafts, taking photos, etc. until a slump arrives there and then I come back to dramas.
You could say that I switch between all of those to avoid the slump to begin with. And it works for me. Never bored, even if there are no new dramas, books, anime etc to catch my interest, I've still got plenty of other things I love to keep me occupied/entertained.

I do think part of it is a slump BUT part of it is also drama quality.
If you've seen a lot of dramas...it tends to become more difficult for new dramas to truly capture your interest since most of them are rather...singular? Too similar? Mediocre? With bad writing/directing? (those stupid and annoying 7 angles...just...ugh)

Though for me - it feels like recently dramas were written for morons, the plot/characters are so annoyingly dumbed down. (With endlessly useless flashbacks - feels like they think I have 1 minute memory and can't recall what happened in previous episode and can not connect the dots so it gets explained over & over again.) And thus indeed boring.
Or more like, to me, instead of dramas being boring (thou they certainly are) they're becoming more annoying. To me it is like the writers/directors think I'm an idiot and need to make it as simple and obvious as possible with a "helpful"flashback thrown in.
...hate that. Therefore, it is indeed difficult for new dramas to get my attention and even more difficult to keep it throughout the drama.

However, most of the time there is at least 1 new drama that stands out from the rest of them and manages to catch your eye and thus you invest your time in it. When Arthdal Chronicles arrived it was like the Earth started to move again in drama world, I love it with all my being and eagerly await each new episode - it was the fresh breeze I wanted and got it.

At least that's the way it is for me - switch between hobbies and look out for that one gem drama that is worth your time and life is good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oooh, nice, thanx!

Also - wonderful article!
We obviously notice and feel the effect the way the light showcases a scene but don't truly pay attention to it as we watch the scene itself, only experience it's result, so it's nice to see someone highlight the effort and thought put into the work by the drama producers/director/etc ;)

I do like the sound of the plot for this one and the cast is good as well. And best of the best - only 36 eps. Yusss!
A year to go huh? Ok.
