More funny than anything.

JJY & TJR are very funny playing off each other.

I really like that JJY doesn’t have her usual ridiculously overdone makeup here.
She looks so beautiful with her face less buried under layers. Less makeup lets her features shine on their own.

Her green tea mock innocent flirting with TJR is hilarious.

Yan An’s exasperated face whenever he’s subjected to witnessing their flirting is a riot.

Mmmm, so happy Edward Gou gave us YA’s arm sexily bared 24/7.

I know not everyone will love the drama and that’s totally ok….but for me it’s making me very happy so far.

I feel utterly spoiled by VOS & Love Beyond the Grave airing simultaneously.

That was the one that finally washed away YBC hatred for me and let me appreciate her in another role.

Boy oh boy tho, the way she made me hate her as YBC is on a level of loathing I rarely hit with fictional characters.

They are making me laugh.

But somehow despite their differences I still see a lot of magnetism and potential future harmony between them.

Opposites attract, as they say.

For me it’s like Whispers of Fate.

I enjoy these theatrical, play-like dramas.

We don’t get them often imo.

For someone who’s watched a lot of stage productions, this one had that vibe.

I understand they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

I also like more natural acting and setting like POJ.

But sometimes I really appreciate a drama with intense aesthetics, larger than life archetype characters, narratives that have a basis in philosophy/mythology, theatrical storytelling, etc.

Still, no shade to people who aren’t into them!

I definitely have my own dislikes too.

This one ranks maybe at a 7 if I’m being generous.

Skin deep melodramatic flashy no substance or soul

Super cheesy too, but not in a purposeful way.

Li Qin was great but she couldn’t save this ridiculous drama.

Whenever I feel like reaching thru the screen to throttle the life out of someone or give them a good slap, I know the actor is doing a phenomenal job as the villain 😅

is right up there with Chen Duling
as Ye Bingchang
in TTEOTM
for rage-inducing,
OMG annoying,
begging to get smacked villains.

I’ve seen her in several other dramas.

Legend of the Female General
was the most recent.

So far she definitely is at her best playing as bitchy, arrogant, smug, cruel characters.

She wasn’t meant to be a villain in Dashing Youth…but I couldn’t stand her character in that either.

Whatever the case, she’s for sure memorably toxic and knows how to leave a lasting impression with her villainy!

I’ve heard good things about Petrichor too. I love a good mystery and actually am not as drawn to typical trope filled modern stories.

I mainly watch wuxia, xianxia, xuanhuan, & Chinese costume dramas.
Some sci-fi/paranormal too. Romance can be good but it’s not always my main reason for watching.

I enjoy romance and was into the BL vibe dramas like The Untamed, Word of Honor, & The Spirealm…but I never found any GL historical or fantasy or sci-fi CDramas and of course BL CDramas got banned. 🥺

Harmony Secret kept popping up on my IQIYI and I found the two actresses gorgeous.
Summary sounded intriguing so I gave it a go.

So happy I did!

I don’t mind cute and fluffy slice of life on the rare occasion or modern romance with office elements, but that’s not really my preferred genre.

The Royal Pin looks right up my alley!

Really? That’s a bummer. This is my first GL. Was hoping to find more like it.

Wow…their chemistry is sizzling, the scheming is on point, and both couples are absolutely loveable.

I don’t know if other GL are like this, but I hope so!

LM has some of the most beautifully expressive eyes I’ve ever seen.

I don’t usually watch modern dramas because they bore me, but I’d watch more like Harmony Secret.

Only on ep 4.
Really hope my heart won’t ache too much in future eps.

I used to be a big reader, but chronic illness has left me with a lot of brain fog that makes it tough for me to read now.

I do kind of want to try reading Daodao Chaotian tho since I loved the story so much.

You might like The Dragon Prince, Slay the Gods, or Jade Dynasty.

Lately I’ve been really into the new donghua Eclipse of Illusion.

It’s super bloody tho and a bit psychotic.
Female MC with (so far) a pure revenge story.

Beautiful animation.

Legend of Princess Chang Ge is another female MC revenge arc but it’s historical.
Truly excellent imo.

Def give it a try if you enjoy a badass Fl and historical warfare type stories.

Look, Bai Lu is a beautiful & talented actress.

But so are lots of others in CDramas.

OFC hair & clothing styling of lead actresses in different costume dramas will probably have similarities.

The show is poking fun at typical tropes in costume dramas, so of course the wardrobe will be familiar.

LYT looks nothing
like BL To me. Her acting is different too.

There’s zero reason to keep bringing BL up and comparing LYT to her.

Gotta take a break from this laughable comment section because reading so many people complaining about the drama being confusing/story not making sense (did they watch with eyes closed🥴), calling FL stupid and mean to ML (WTF???), saying th drama is dragging even tho we have only 8 eps out (which are fast paced),
saying the drama is “for kids”, complaining about FL because of Manman /TPOB,
and these BL comparisons
are driving me insane.

Seriously, what is wrong with people?

Can they not just sit back, pay attention, enjoy the ride, appreciate the talent of actors involved, and not immediately sling mud and make bitter comments?

If they want to watch BL, go watch BL.
Same with TPOB.

If this kind of clever but silly comedy filled with meta jokes & nods to past costume dramas & characters isn’t their thing, then go away already.

No, VIP get 2 (sometime 3-4) episodes a day whereas non-VIP users only get 1 new ep a day.

IQIYI almost never drops all episodes at once for airing dramas.

I much prefer it this way

I always scoff when dramas show the FL falling/getting shoved into a shallow looking pond (5-8 ft deep at max)
but then the pond suddenly becomes a bottomless lake when the ML dives in to save her.

ADWAD is doing a fantastic job of snarking at all the silly tropes & nonsensical scenes/plot points that are so common in costume dramas.

Nonstop hilarity😂

Side note: where can I find a landscaper who knows how to make these magical shallow-looking but impossibly deep ponds?

If i had one in my yard
I’d use it for swimming, keeping a variety of aquatic creatures & plants,
or
maybe I’d get lucky
by falling into it
and getting saved
by a gorgeous, chivalrous guy who just happened to be strolling by at that exact moment😅
