My theory is that the director is purposely downplaying any chemistry between actors. This is because the female lead may change. Thus this season will be more prosaic. If netizens get too invested, that may jeopardise commercial prospects for season two (maybe this is what producers and director are thinking). Just a theory though since I am hoping I am wrong.

Awesome a fellow book reader on MDL. I keep looking for people who quote from books. I am a massive Agatha Christie fan and read almost all of her 70 plus works. I love her Egyptian inspire series the most especially “Death comes at the end” and “five little pigs”

Sounds like the Korean version of “orange is the new black” and “prison break”. Someone down here commented Agatha Christie and I hope it is. Even squid game did remind me of “And Then There were none”, which was written in 1939. Especially the last twist in Squid Game on who the main villain was very reminiscent of “and then there were none”. Another plot similarity “squid game” and Agatha book was that “squid game” was based on a childhood Korean game whilst “and then there were none” was based on a childhood nursery rhyme role played by kids in 1910s to 1930s (that rhyme should be massively inappropriate now though), similarity three) squid game and the book, both the events of the plot take place in a secluded island from which no one can escape.

Trust me it feels ancient when you are studying which is the most unfun thing ever. I feel only people in their twenties should do unfun things. For all things fun though like watching dramas one only gets old when one is 100. 😌

Oh wow did not know that. So the thing is at my grand old age of mid thirties, I am giving a finance exam. It’s quite horrible really studying. Once I finish my exam, I will start watching it.

There is a reason why I am not watching this drama love galaxy and alchemist of souls. Both have sequels. I will wait till the first season drops then watch. Hopefully love galaxy gives us a date for part 2, then I can watch it. I do like Zhao Lusi a lot.

I also agree about Lee Jun-Ho character, it’s very unidimensional. The contrast (character building by the author I mean, not the actor himself. I think he is doing a great job) between his character and her character is too stark. It feels like the author took two years to write her character and 2 hours to write his character 🤷‍♀️. “Let me just hurry up and download a template prototype of male lead from the internet and give him a name. He will be her love interest and nothing else, finish”. (I feel like that’s what the author thought)

I totally agree about the romance here. Which is why I have put this drama on hold. Since she loves whales and is a lawyer, I thought her arc would be very heroic where she will become a spokesperson or champion of environmental causes or neurodivergent people. Basically I wanted something really big (someone like Greta Thunberg for example) but it’s regressing to a romantic story and I lost interest in the plot. This girl has so much potential so much talent so much intelligence… so maybe I wanted her to be a hero.

Don’t go by MDL comments as long as drama ratings are between 7.5 to 8.5. Unusually these dramas are polarising some like some don’t. Usually dramas below 7 are bad. If you like it go ahead. It’s on Netflix so if you have Netflix access is easy 😊

Both and for both I think the actress and her character is not so bad in my humble opinion. I am liking this drama (Cafe Minam) so far.

Oh Yes of course. But Oh Yeon Seo is not bad. She is decent.

She softens up. But to be honest she is a cop, and well they deal with criminals day in day out. So they do become more abrupt. I know people are not liking it but then I felt that her portrayal is consistent with her character profile and it’s circumstances within the drama. If you watch Signal with Kim Hye Soo, she was also rude in the first few episodes.

Where where where to watch this.

Its only after he is 22 I presume when he shares that he likes her. But for her to eventually accept him is another 3 or 4 years at least. I don’t find anything problematic with the content. In all fairness though I think the main reason people don’t like it because of the way the drama production house marketed it as a “scandal” or a “taboo” romance. I think that was a very wrong move on their part. The drama actors, writers or director I am sure had no such intention. But I think the production houses get the final say and they are the ones who messed the “positioning of the drama”

While I wait I will watch the other Indiana Jones / fantasy drama of Xu Kai that’s airing. It looks quite promising too. I don’t have many dramas to watch this year after FLAW (which I loved. I know I am weird). I enjoy attorney woo, but I don’t die of tension when I watch it and I love tension. Example will Joe Keeery live or die in stranger things. I feel this drama (perfect husband) may take us though a roller coaster (will they or will they not be together in the end). I love high stakes romance or sci fi. Maybe this is why so many people want to watch this drama along with the Yang Mi and the Xu Kai factor.

Exactly right. She is a cop and she should be tough and loud too. Especially if there are corrupt and powerful criminals around. Also once she starts believing him, she does soften up. What people don’t realise is that the male lead’s body language looks suspicious. He does not exactly give a “trust me” vibe.

Exactly right. She is a cop and is used to dealing with rough criminals. In hwayugi people downvoted her saying her was too non aggressive imagine. Basically since she is not super pretty (like Soo Ye Ji), or not super young she gets panned. I like her a lot. Also this is supposed to be a tongue in cheek drama anyways. Also you can see her softening her stance once she starts believing in him.
