I think it’s more that she does not fit in with the mold non Koreans want for their older actresses. Outside…
Yes but people don’t realise that sometimes actors have no say in where they are casted. Either they get rejected during auditions or do not get those kinds of scripts. Clearly Koreans love her since she gets a lot of endorsements and they see value in her in romance. It’s non Korean audience which has a problem since it does not fit in with their own idea about how a women should be beyond 40. “Horrors how dare an older older woman act in romance and that too younger men. Meanwhile we will adore and endorse men who do the same”. She is very Korea centric in her choice and she should be since she is a Korean actress first and foremost.
Whereas people are gunning for younger actresses to be in romance. I felt the romance in attorney woo was totally not needed.

I think it’s more that she does not fit in with the mold non Koreans want for their older actresses. Outside of korea and China it’s rare for fortyish women to be cast in romantic roles and that too with younger guys. Whilst people all over the world are used to seeing men decades older than female leads. So I am assuming it causes a cognitive dissonance and peoples reactions get very vicious and visceral. You will never see such reaction for Korean men romancing women far younger than themselves and these people lambast song hye Kyo all over the internet with extremely mean comments.

all this hate for han sohee reminds me how much netizens like to hate on successful women because of internalized…
I feel like running an analytics software on this platform to look at keyword associations used for women who don’t fit the mold (sweet and cute and super young) and the hatred and vitriol they get in this MDL website. I do know it’s possible with web scraping but don’t know what script to run. But to cut a long story short I agree with you on extreme misogyny on this website and I am willing to bet that anyone who runs a trend analysis and key word search on MDL can prove it easily.

For once can we see two very pretty actresses being friends. We have seen this done before in Rational life a Chinese drama where the newbie girl is very good friends with the female lead. Both SHK and Han So Hee have amazing screen presence. Han So Hee is a good actress and has shown she can do non bitchy roles very well such as my name and nevertheless. I have been friends with women a decade older and a decade younger, and I want this to be shown without all of the cat fights or endless plotting and the Meanness. Please k dramaland show us a good women being friends drama for once.

Conclusion: not for me. I think this type of show is more for the youth lol, and that’s alright because I can…
Same here … it’s for the youth. There are so many shows which cater to all age groups but this is clearly targetted at 15 to 24. The arcs very focused on early adult life experience. Thing is I love shows aimed at the early twenties for example the one with Xu Kai about gaming and 2521 both so complex and nuanced but this one is just I don’t know. Maybe this is what you get when you get older authors writing for younger audience. They the older authors dumb it down to toddler levels. I personally thing that young adults are very complex and mature and evolved people especially the gen z now

It's gonna be upsetting for me for sure.
I learnt my lesson with hotel del Luna. I felt her character growth was too juvenile or teenage girl like and to me it was not fitting for authors who are so much older. She remained a twenty something virgin throughout the series and for a 1000 years and It did not sit well with me. It’s just to me felt like the validation of “Carl Jung’s” thinking that women are only valid if they are young and pure. I was so not into it. Also the sisters stories go into an endless for loop similar to programming with no break, they just go round and round.
For me the best arc of a woman spanning generations who has lived that long was Pachinko. She was young, she was old, she felt happiness, she cried, she protected her people. Hotel Del Luna was too juvenile. Even when I was in my early twenties I wanted books and shows with more meat. And since then I have stopped expecting anything with depth from Hong Sisters.

I see a lot of people here being judgemental about those people who are upset with the cast change of the female lead. If people are upset they are valid and they are in the majority of books or drama lovers who think like that. The only time I have seen looks being drastically changed is if the character goes through a transformative process example Vecna, Voldemort or Darth Vader or if it’s early on in the show. In my mind I cannot recollect any story or legend where the character has changed.
And this is not even the first time the Hong sisters have done it, they did the exact same thing with the drama Big and as far as memory serves, people were also very upset back then too.

That’s some dumb reach of logic 🙄 They needed an actress who can do a good job and be the lead for 20(!)…
Exactly I don’t even agree 100 💯… I agree 1000 percent. Stupidest production decision ever. In fact as an avid book reader, I must tell you even authors don’t do that. Characters don’t change appearance drastically within book series unless it’s a villain like vecna (I know I keep throwing stranger things references everywhere). In hunger games Katniss was brunette and I was so so so disappointed when they cast Jennifer Lawrence who is a blonde. If people like a story be it a book or a video, people will draw the character in their mind and one cannot mess with that. It’s literally book author 101. But Hong sisters are weird don’t trust them unless the drama is over, since they love to throw a curveball at the last moment.

I think what they meant or speculating in terms of plot, is that the showrunners were planning to cast a rookie actress first (This is what happened initially, I remember reading the casting news) instead of JSM, just so audience did not get attached and could deal with the face swap. But that was of course not what happened since the rookie actress was not chosen. I do get that point, just like you said it’s not like reading a book so face swap is gonna be jarring for all of us.

Yes agree. I do understand that about the pension, since I spent so many years calcuting the payouts 😀. The thing is even if women sometimes do earn well, the sum assured value can be lower since there are disruptions due to maternity leaves or because women retire earlier. In many counties including china, women actually retire earlier. So it’s a combination of so many factors why women grapple with poverty 1) earlier retirement age 2) maternity leave disruptions 3) capital loss due to taking care of older spouse 4) extremely long life expectancy and so on. Which is why I feel that financial planning should be taught to women when they are in their twenties to make them realise how long I mean literally how long women live. You can check out data almost all people living over the age of 100 are women around the world. And how to ensure that they live with dignity of life intact when they are old.
Of course since I work with the numbers I am also trying to do proper financial planning for when I am older. It’s so inspirational being together for 25 years. Children are a huge blessing indeed 😊👍

Yes it’s true that women in Europe are so much better placed then other parts of the world. South Asia is pretty bad where I am originally from. And you are echoing exactly what I was saying that women living alone have financial difficulties since the pension they receive is a smaller fraction. I just wish more women were aware of these issues of marrying an older man. Just because you are financially comfortable now does not mean you will remain so, especially since women tend to live very long.
All the best for your love story, I am sure it must be so much fun for you 😊. Also it’s great that you are able to offer support to your mom in law 😊

Why didn't you do a research on Why woman trying to marry older men?Facts, * To stabilize in financial states…
Actually what I was talking about was the social trend of marrying older men and the impact it has on women in many parts of the world once they are alone. There is a lot of social stigma (in widowhood) and a host of other things, which I have been exposed to due to my job of seeing these older women. Link https://borgenproject.org/fighting-the-global-burden-of-widows-in-poverty/
So I was just saying that I wish marrying younger men was possible as a counter to these social economic problems. Of course age is not a barrier in love, I am merely speaking from an academic perspective.
It’s actually not possible in many conservative cultures to marry someone younger for women. They have to face society’s criticisms. Women like Gong Hyo Jin, are an inspiration for countless Asian women who are so bounded and restricted by the culture they were raised in. 😊😊😊
PS : love your personal story you shared 😊😊😊

The time that women are lonely is actually not 5 or 6 years globally it’s above 10 years and more often it’s more than 2 decades. Again it’s a matter of perspective but a women before she is 55 can still marry again, she has options but the older you get it become worse.
Marrying an older man also means a long time spending caregiving as well often up to a decade. So if one ends up marrying a much older man three things happen 1) you are happier when young, under 45 because you are financially stable 2) once you are 55 onwards you have to start caregiving since your spouse is Unwell 3) 60 plus until you probably die at 85 you are alone and widowed and probably poor now since your accumulated wealth is now lost due to years of medical spending
Trust me on this, this is literally the life story of most women I have come into contact with due to my day job. I was a pensions/ insurance analyst
There is actually an old Russian fairy tale where god asks two couple “do you want to be happy when young” or “ do you want to be happy when old”. Both couples chose differently and their lives are different.
At the end of the day it’s a matter of choice really 😊.
Ages 60 to mid 80s is a really really long time in life it’s 1/3 to 1/4 of someone’s life. You can check out pew research to see if I am speaking facts on single households above 60
So if one does marry an older man please invest in annuity income, as well as personal long term care, disability insurance, since they will have to take care of these things alone when their time comes. I know it sounds morbid but it is what it is
