Yang Hua’s mom…what the heck are you thinking, lady?? Wow, I don’t even know the right word to describe…
I stay in Asia pacific and am exposed to Chinese culture a lot, and I can say that it’s less patriarchal than South Asia, Middle East, Japan and Korea and more patriarchal than the west. Women enjoy a lot of freedom, can wear what they want and work and are in control of their lives. Professional spheres have a healthy representation of women (again I am comparing with more regressive Asian cultures but still some way to go in comparison to west).

I promise I was just about to ask for someone to explain to me the logic in not promoting or even hiring single…
Asian conservative public/ official spaces do not like single women unless they are young (less than 25). Women feel insecure about “husband stealing”. If you watch historical dramas from Turkey, Pakistan, India, China, Korea and Japan all the cultures were polygamous and until the 1940s at least. The trend was that a young wives become favourites and consequently the kids of the older wives would suffer badly. There is a very classic Indian Myth based on this concept “Dhruv and Narsimha”. So that feeling still carries.
Unfortunately things happen in real life where these prejudices are reinforced for example - Adam Levine, Try Guys. At work people do not want to cause an HR headache, such affairs can cost millions in lawsuits/ reputation damage. When I worked for a consulting firm, work fraternisation had to be discussed with the HR especially with older male boss and it was frowned upon.
Problem is a few young women with zero principles and many males with mid age crisis behave terribly and the entire female (CIS) gender has to suffer. It’s unfair but it is what it is

The script writers didn't do their job well then... lack of research 🤭
It’s more like they focused more on character development instead of technical details. The characters behave consistent as per their personna. And immediately you like them.
Unlike forecasting love and weather where the writer spent all her energy being super technical about the physics of weather forecasting but the characters were unlikeable and mean. She even glorified cheating.
So I prefer this approach 😊

I am loving this drama. My only pet peeve so far is that the finance explained is a bit lame. I am a financial analyst myself so I cannot help rolling my eyes sometimes. Otherwise it’s a real fun watch and the chemistry so far is awesome. Not over the top (since they have just met) but good nonetheless.

I have a feeling that this is a “dramatic” drama since there would be angst coming the leads way for sure.…
To be honest we use the word comedy in a wrong context so you right. Comedy means something that ends well so opposite of tragedy. Humorous is the right English I suppose. Nonetheless I do hope it’s light and not heavy. I am still reeling from the disappointment that Forecasting Love and Weather was with so much angst and then 2521 with ridiculous ending, that I stopped watching dramas real time for months now. This is the first one I have picked up in a long time.

I think it should be taken as a comedic series, with something social to say about glass ceilings, and parental…
I have a feeling that this is a “dramatic” drama since there would be angst coming the leads way for sure. There are some secrets I can see already and some manipulations which will happen so it won’t be a comedy all through its run. You can watch some trailers and they are hinting at a tonal shift.

What's with everyone obsession with women getting married 🙄
Some good reasons and some bad. Women who are older themselves are afraid of seeing their girl child lonely. In most societies an older woman is usually quite lonely - no social equity, not considered useful. So she is projecting her own fears. “I don’t want her to suffer so I will force her.”
The second more insidious reason is patriarchal “how dare women stay single” . They are supposed to have babies and get married. So it’s a mix of good intentions and bigoted intentions both.

There is saying in my language, “the village has yet not been inhabited but the beggars are already there”. This drama has not even started but the noona haters are already here “spreading their joy and love and light”. If you hate a genre don’t watch. For example if you don’t want boy love dramas don’t watch but don’t spread toxicity just because you can. Move on from this page. There are several wonderful Korean dramas being aired now (Young Lady and Gentlemen, One Dollar Lawyer, Somebody) where the heroes are comfortably much older than the heroines so it’s not like there is no choice.

Can I say again how smoking hot Yang Mi looks? In real life she is 9 years older the Xu Kai and they are looking…
She is a boss lady but it’s a good balance since she is not mean or rude or aggressive either. She is able to pull that off very well. I love the sheath dresses she has been wearing

Ok what I loved the most about this drama so far and it’s really weird, it’s because the male lead is a trader and keeps quoting the NASDAQ. I love this. I am so tired of lawyers and doctors all the time. It’s cute and cool

Why do people so excited?... I've just watched ep.1... it's okay, but nothing extra, just one more noona drama…
Some people including me love a good noona drama. It’s different from the usual dramas where male leads are thousands years older (exaggerated of course). A good noona drama gives me the same fuzzies as a warm cup of chocolate and reading a cozy book by the fireplace. A beautiful parallel universe where ageism does not matter to women and there is no ticking bio clock. I can’t say about others here but it’s my happy little corner.

he can be a little too "childish" but it will get better in later on of the drama. There will be a part where…
It’s his character arc growth, he is shown to be quite young and impetuous but evolves. I must say so far his acting is on point with the direction the writer wanted him to take.

Fight my way also got romance what lol
Exactly right and that’s what I was saying that I hope this is not in the secretary Kim genre. I really don’t understand myself and I hope I am not hurting anyone, but I really cannot stand secretary Kim but equally love fight for my way. So when I said I hope it’s not romance that’s what I meant 😊

Fight my way also got romance what lol
Yes totally 💯. But fight my way was about struggles with being poor while trying to make their way in the world, friendships, Low self esteem. It was more a slice of life with love and laughter than a candy floss romantic comedy with the “Rich CEO dude”. And I thought PSJ shined in that role, you could see the effort he put in for those boxing sequences. It’s a severely underrated drama in my humble opinion. Secretary Kim was a lot of fluff in comparison. He has played jerky CEOs or rich dudes in a few roles and a struggling man in few roles and I prefer the latter. I seem to not like over the top romances like crash landing or secretary kim, I prefer more subtle romances.

This hasn't even been released yet so why are people crying that it shouldn't get a second season. I will never…
I think it’s about 1) the story arcs which people feel that may be diluted 2) anecdotal evidence that very few multiple season dramas have been good 3) some dramas remaining unfinished unresolved (example arthdal chronicles). So people are not really wrong in their knee jerk reaction. I do agree that they should keep an open mind.
