I love that too! I laughed so hard during Rokkaku's arc, no wonder Machida said it is his favorite spin-off arc…
When that scene came up, I was like "This. This is the one." >< It seemed so real and I wonder if that's thanks to Machida's acting or him acting like himself. It was very natural haha XD
Also when Rokkaku was coming to a conclusion about what was going on between Kurosawa and Adachi, I just knew he was going to be so off lol and he was but even though we all knew what was coming, the conclusion he came to was just so funny. Def one of the funniest moments in CM right next to Kurosawa finding Adachi and Tsuge in front of Adachi's apartment XD
I did... I also didn't like how Captain Yoo's homophobia was simply brushed over. Like he threatened Han Yang…
You have no idea how glad I am to hear someone say this. After watching the show I couldn't stop thinking about how Yoo Han Yang, the only main supporting character who was LGBTQ+, was the only one amongst the main supporting characters to have a definite unhappy ending while even the violently LGBTQ+/phobic Captain Yoo had a relatively happy ending. It rubbed me the wrong way. I was also expecting some sort of character development from Captain Yoo but all we got was him seeking advice from Yoo Han Yang after having ignored his existence. I think this was to form some friendly connection between the two characters so that the audience wouldn't be too critical of Captain Yoo, especially since he initiated it but it felt like a really empty attempt from the writers. Not to mention that Yoo Han Yang's sexuality seemed to, at one point (that I remember specifically), be the butt of the joke when he tells Lee Joon Ho and Kim Je Hyuk that his partner is a man. I really wished the writers didn't portray Yoo Han Yang's character and sexual identity in such a negative way and discussed more in-depth about the LGBTQ+/phobia those in the LGBTQ+ community face.
Jake is such an amazing person! He's constantly spoken out about LGBTQ+ rights (if I'm not mistaken) and is now…
Gosh, hearing that makes me so happy! It's truly sad how BL viewers get really excited when a BL actor speaks out about LGBTQ+ rights because it really doesn't happen that often :( You would expect all BL actors to be LGBTQ+ activists and/or speak out about LGBTQ+ rights, but many don't (at least from what I know of) for whatever reason. We need more people like Jake in the industry!
So @motivateanger on Twitter full filled my request to translate an interview with cherry magic's scriptwriter.…
Thank you for requesting this translation! It's always great to hear what the writers are actually saying instead of trying to guess with a vague translation. One thing that I'm still conflicted (?) about is the fact that the writer didn't want to label CM as a BL because of the negative association non-BL fans might have with the genre. I understand that the writer had harmless intentions but by stating that they are not labeling CM as a BL because of the negative connotations some might get from it, it just feels like that's emphasizing the generalization that all BL is bad. I'm not very knowledgable on the BL genre but I do know that it's history and the genre itself is intricate so to try and stray away from the label because of the negative connotations it might have for others seems a bit unfair. I would love to hear others' opinions on this since I am far from an expert on these topics and want to see other perspectives.
From now on I'm gonna watch this every year around Christmas time. I'm sad this beautiful heartwarming series…
Right, the fact that the release dates of the last episodes were around the same time that the story was taking place felt so magical especially the last one T-T
Jake from Trapped wrote an article on his Instagram to praise Cherry Magic. Love this kind of crossover.
Jake is such an amazing person! He's constantly spoken out about LGBTQ+ rights (if I'm not mistaken) and is now talking about another drama with LGBTQ+ relationships T-T I haven't read his instagram post but will once it's translated. I'm really interested in what he has to say about CM. I have so much respect for him!
I almost never ever rewatch anything no matter how much I like it, I may go back to certain scenes but never do…
Lol now you can play it in your head whenever you're in a boring situation >v< I usually have to wait at least a year before I forget most of what happens in the dramas I watch but I think I've spoiled myself too much with CM and have so much of it imprinted in my mind T-T I would gladly have my memory of it taken away so I could rewatch it and experience all the fuzzy feelings for the first time again
I don't think I've ever rewatched a drama the way I've been doing with this one!
Me too! The most surprising part was noticing new things every time I rewatched. I actually forced myself to not pay too much attention to the first time I watched the episodes so when I watch them again, they still felt new lol
I usually like to rewatch dramas after a long time so that I don't remember what happens and can be surprised when I watch them again but I don't know how long I would have to wait to forget CM T-T I mean, I've already rewatched each episode multiple times while waiting for the newest one to come out each week (especially ep. 7) T_T T_T
Im gonna talk about how Jdorama usually done romance theme drama. Honestly, this is actually same with Het drama.…
Thank you for sharing this with me! By any chance, do you know if romance jdramas that focus on a heterosexual/heteroromantic relationship also have teased kisses?
The last episode made me realize that the writers did a good job at making Rokkaku's personality lovable because I didn't even get too mad at him for constantly interrupting Kurosawa and Adachi ^o^
Since I'm not from Japan and am not 100% familiar with Japanese culture and media, I wanted to know from people who are more familiar and feel like they can answer my question, what could have Cherry Magic done differently (if anything) to show the same levels of intimacy as other romance jdramas that focus on a heterosexual/heteroromantic relationship?
Also when Rokkaku was coming to a conclusion about what was going on between Kurosawa and Adachi, I just knew he was going to be so off lol and he was but even though we all knew what was coming, the conclusion he came to was just so funny.
