AI gave me a bunch of wrong info when I asked about LEECN... at first it said it was Levi's denim, the Chinese branch that I love which made me jump for joy,....but then it looked kind of wrong, so I asked if it was Lee jeans? but the answer looked even more f'd up. Now I got it's a makeup brand....I gave up, whatever it is....a new endorsement is a new endorsement 😁

It started at 8.4 or 8.5 ...i don't remember...but quickly plummeted to 8.1. It happened when only 5 or 6 eps were out, suddenly every episode was getting 5 or 5.5... compared to 8+ before. Then it dropped to 7.9, and now I’m surprised to see it at 7.7.

The thing is... it’s a dark comedy with niche humor... and the story setting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But for ppl who enjoy this kind of humor and darker nd more psychologically layered stories but wrapped in dark comedy, it’s def not a 7.7 imo. So my guess is how some started watching without checking the trailers or teasers..or not thinking them through...i mean what to expect or not....then rated it low when they realized it wasn’t their thing. It's a wrong way to judge in general but that seems to be common practice now. No romance? Here...take a 5 or lower. What's this type of humor? Here , take a 1..😂

I keep seeing excellent dramas with little or no romance getting ratings that are practically a criminal offense😭 so people should rate them and kind of by comparing them to similar stories in terms of genre, themes, or specifics... than based on whether they match their personal taste and specific preferences, and if not getting what they generally like punishing a drama..
But if you like the genre and setting... imo it’s hard to see it as low quality, esp with the excellent acting and how much the main characters’ stories feel true to today’s internet based society...

It is, and it’s not serious.. 😭 It’s such a strange but good mix of West meeting East...The whole vibe felt like reading a comic or watching an anime...with spaghetti western mixed with Eastern martial arts thrown in the desert. The fights were good, but the acting was really good. You could just feel how much the actors enjoyed making it. I can’t remember the last time I rooted for every character, good or bad. They all felt so distinct and alive..
I think that only the first two episodes demand more focus to pick up the basics of the story and the standing point of every character... after that, the story is linear and not hard to follow..it’s just to enjoy ..

A few weeks, and I hope things will get better 😄
Watch Remnants of Gold...sorry if we’ve already talked about this. I remember talking about it with someone in the threads... but this drama is so damn good. It kept me up for two nights binge watching, smth I haven’t done in a long time. I was that sucked in..the mdl ratings is a criminal offense ..🫩

Yeah, they use whatever reason even when it’s not based in reality, and keep inventing new stories too...

As far as I know, it started before, just not at the beginning. I had no idea about any of this until I watched FoF months after it aired. I still remember the comments that pulled me down this rabbit hole. 😂 I found some good sources that basically gave me the whole story from all the major angles, but it’s complex..
GJM’s works in China always seem to pull in new ppl over time. That’s why you rarely see huge success numbers in the short term...but more ppl give them a try eventually and end up enjoying them. So I wouldn’t say it flopped.. iQIYI still had it among its top 10 best selling merchants last year. Gjm's dramas seem to be slowly making their way and many who finish them end up questioning all the negative things they’ve heard about the plot, etc. 😅

There’s no issue between them... and most of Rui’s fans, well intl fans for sure.. actually like gjm's work. Under normal circumstances... this would be a jackpot, but things aren’t exactly normal.

Yara’s comment is a short summary. I’d just add that Rui auditioned for MJTY after playing in theater. Gjm signed him while MJTY was filming.. just a month into filming i think. He just recognized the talent and expirence, nothing more or less..as many people seeing him debuting. But that didn’t stop the first wave of “gjm’s golden boy star” narratives, where 1 min of his debut screentime somehow becomes an hour in ppl’s minds... It started then and got worse...with some of the irrational or abnormal hate towards gjm turning into hate towards Rui too.
In a normal world...what gjm does is standard practice. He has an agency, signs actors but doesn’t lock them in...so they can pursue their own projects. His eye for talent is pretty good imo...discovering some real gems but also signing solid actors. It’s not like his agency gathers bad actors, far from it...

If his agency co invests too into a drama ofc he’ll cast from his own pool... esp actors with good skills. Wang Duo is one example, and nobody had an issue with that until Rui. So it’s only a problem when ppl decide it is...and here they decided Rui was the problem, adding fictional stories to fit their feelings. It’s just tiresome reading the same crap over and over whenever they work together ...

Yet their “BL” dramas...not actually BL, but bromance type dramas are breaking all kinds of records and attracting viewers like bees to honey. Not just The Untamed and WoH but popular donghua too, likeThreads of Fate: A War Untold....FoF looks like a harmless... nonexistent bromance in comparison to this one😂 Or Beyond Time’s Gaze, an excellent donghua that isn’t really bromance like ToFaWU but I always see ppl shipping the main male character with another dude...
And all this is happening in China... so the comments about gjm making BL are hypocritical, to say the least... when the fanbase supporting this isn’t small domestically or intl. When i joined xhs i was even surprised how strong the bromance fanbase is....I've seen it happen with a whole range of dramas too... people shipping certain actors more cause their chemistry just hits right. Most of the time it’s just for fun...not cause ppl genuinely expect real BL. You can’t even find actual BL dramas in China anyway...so this argument by some people never sat right with me...and i even remember when the iQIYI CEO guy sped up FoF... he said their data showed that bromance was what ppl wanted to see...they've seen what I'm seeing too tho just in fragments..

Is Rui on the poster? The figure resembles his...but I can't say...if it's him Idk what to say. I love sci-fi and gjm’s work, and Rui is self-evident atp..so all the boxes are checked, but in this combo, I'm not sure...I'm leaning more toward saying no, I hope it doesn't involve him..😅☠️😭😒🤔
