Same! Many seem to refuse to read it because he’s terrible, but I would say MRJ in the novel is a bit closer to a realistic depiction of a prince in that era. That’s not to say that there weren’t honourable princes back then, but let’s be honest, their morality & standards were different to the modern ones.
I loved the novel. He was a complex character, who was very devoted to certain causes and that showed through his actions, just like you said. I wanted to wring his neck, but I also really enjoyed the journey ❤️
Hi, SandGirl_Nicky! Your observation reflects your sensitivity. In fact, the Chinese historical series are an…
I think the beauty & tragedy present in Chinese history is not easy to grasp for the occasional viewers of c-dramas from other cultures, however I imagine the same is true for Chinese viewers of European works. Nonetheless, good literary and visual oeuvres is what gives us a taste of other cultures and provides the opportunity to experience something new. Everybody has something to learn.
He thinks she’s dead, and exhumes her body, insisting she live with him. She left without a word for him and he cannot reconcile with that. He literally carried a dead body for days, only to find out that A Mei was actually alive. They did get married and he had only her in his palace.
Yeah, but MRJ is a much worse person in the book, in the novel he’s very different. But both the novel & drama MRJ want to protect their country. MRJ in the novel realises his love for A Mei too late. He’s heartbroken and his behaviour is honestly speaking very disturbing when he realises that. I wonder if they’ll include that in the drama…
Having read the novel, the Yue Qin in there and the drama Yue Qin are entirely different characters, and I can’t get myself to take drama YQ seriously 😅😅
What I really love about this drama is that the plot is fast paced, the characters are making decisions in line with their established personalities, nothing is dragged for too long (obvious mysteries get revealed in a very natural way and quickly), and overall the quality is great.
Most importantly, the drama isn’t treating its viewers as if they’re stupid and the leads have got great chemistry!
Him using his whip to remove the soil of the body because he couldn’t let go was perhaps my favourite bit in the whole novel ❤️❤️❤️❤️😭
