The producer said that she save money on most thing to spend the most money on three things: costumes, post-production CGI and (^~^) forgot the third thing. She actually seek a famous costume designer and give him the script to read. He feel in love with it, even remember the poetry, so he designed the costumes to tell his version of the storyline. You will notice details like Xaing costume change colors from purple to pink as she fall in love with CWN. WKS’s red color is hidden in blue and green but get bigger when he slowly exposed his ghost master persona. ZZS’s costumes become more flowing and pale in colors as he become more sickly.

The general story setup with a little spoiler ( naming the first 3 episodes) : ZZS is chief of four season manor clan and the window of heaven, a secret organization that under from the prince Jia. He is tired of living under the rule of the organization and the prince, that cause all his clan members death. However, to leave the window of heaven organization you need to planted the 7 nails of tournament that will either kill you right away or made you into a living vegetables for 3 years before you die. Since he was the one who came up with the nails idea, he figured out that instead of inserting it once, you insert each nail 3 months apart. you will still died, but you keep 50% of your Kung fu and don’t become a vegetable. However, you die slower and gradually lose your sense. He tricked the prince jai to allow him to leave because the prince thinks he lose all his power and useless. He leave the north in disguise as bragger and wanders to find a place to quickly die in peace. At the same time, the martial art world is fighting over keys to open a armory that a powerful master, 20 years ago put all the clans secret Kung fu manuals, weapon and other power item that if anyone get their hand will be the most powerful person and can rule the martial art world. Most of the big clan want their Kung fu manual back and the other power item. While over the ghost valley, the outcast clan of the martial art, one of the top generals stole the leader part of the key to the armory ( but you know he was killed by a mysterious person) and the ghost master send his men to find the defector. 3 month later, ZZS run to CL (who invited him to his home to stay because he noticed that ZZS is sickly), a clingy rich dude(WKX) and his maid. That night, CL’s home and clan is destroyed. ZZS wanting to saving CL get pulled into the armory mess and WKS for his own purpose decided to followed ZZS.

If you like a good wuxia drama that bring to mind the old Condor Heroes series then this drama for you. So if you just like the plot then yeah...it will be a few hours of your life. However, if you fall in love with any of the CP then you will spend the next weeks learning about China culture subtext, poetry, wuxia tropes, lip reading and how to bypass Chinese censorship. Hating Yuoku, while loving them.

If it help, I really think they set up the two kids at the end as the reincarnation of Wei Ning and Xaing. Because in the book, the two reincarnated into two families that are neighbors and friends....the parent noticed the similarity between birth marks that red spring bracelet left on their wrist so they married they off together. At the wedding in the drama, they made sure to highlight about bracelets to show they are tied. And, CL’s four season manor location and DK seem to be living under the mountain, where WKS and ZZS lived, so neighbors. So everyone has an happy ending, well except for Xai and Jing...but they got buried together in the snow.
Also, WKX and ZZS does also end together official because the production company give hints thought out the ending that WKX survived and then release the real ending as extra because of censorship. As a side noted, the production also hinted that the daughter is actually WKS and ZZS’s kid and CL is just raising her because the original line was about one of them becoming a cauldron for the other, which is wuxia term for sex and the words floating around them at the end are old characters for “good birth” or something like that.
As for the untamed, I don’t really know why fans are fighting, I am a died hard untamed fan, but they are not in the same genres and can’t be really compared. The only one I compared WOH to is legend of Fai, because of same genres, similarities characters arch types and plot devices.

Just dropping a recommendation for those who waiting for Monday episode and don’t mind reading BL novel. I read this book last year and just thought of it, it a good fix for WOH fan in waiting for their next fix. It is 31 chapters long, but it has a lot of the drama elements and similarities. It is well written and translated. The title give you a hint of what the two main leads are about (^0^). He didn’t kill his brothers, he feel he cause their death because he closed down the four season manor and open the window of heaven with them. They all died on missions that the Prince send them on. The uncle in the beginning was the last member of his clan left, other him ( that’s he knew then).
