nope, it has never worked before and it never will. No guy wants someone who has feelings for more than one person…
Of course I meant that it MIGHT have worked among kdrama fans when they watched a kdrama, not in real life. I meant that the story might've been more appealing back then as kdrama fans' mentality was slightly different in 2010s, and there was less awareness about toxic, abusive characters and abusive behaviour in kdramas. For example, not a lot of people cared when the male lead kept grabbing the female lead's hand and dragged her whenever he wanted to, or when he "teased" her in public (which now most of us would call bullying). Not to say that back in 2010s all people didn't mind such toxic stories, but many more people brushed off such toxic and abusive situations depicted in kdramas. Now more and more people call out kdramas where a character is abusive but the screenwriter wants the viewer to like the said character and thinks that their behaviour is cute and funny when in fact it's abusive and toxic.
Also, I hate to be that person, but... It's so obvious that the writer is a man as it seems that he thinks women want to see such an indecisive female lead as Oh Joo In and that women are into such stories as this drama depicts (two guys fighting for the woman's attention who is oh-so-pure-and-innocent, female lead being rescued from any situation by her prince charming). Dude, no. MAYBE such story would've worked in 2010's, but not in 2021. Such a waste of good actors. Also, the only good thing about this drama is the friendship of Joo In's mother and Bi Soo's mother.
Tbh I'm most excited for Choi Sung Eun. She was amazing in Beyond Evil, I can't believe she's a rookie actress! And she already gets to act with Ji Chang Wook, good for her! <3

Before then, I’d gotten a lot of praise and interest, but I could feel that my acting was not the same as it was before. I wanted to keep getting praised, and I wanted to improve, but I didn’t know how I should act anymore.”
He continued, “When I watched myself act, I could no longer tell if it was good or not. It felt like I was boxing myself in and acting was getting more and more difficult. During ‘The Crowned Clown,’ the director and staff helped me a lot. In the past, even if I got a lot of help, I couldn’t make the role my own, but that time I was able to do it.
“In the past, I got a lot of help and advice from my seniors, but for that drama, I came in with my own questions and found my own answers while filming. I realized that I needed to have conviction. I tried that for the first time with ‘The Crowned Clown’ and developed it further with ‘Hotel Del Luna.’ And the thing that confirmed me in that conviction was ‘Beyond Evil.'” ___________________________________________ Guys, we stan the king of self-improvement who knows he's popular and skilled at acting but doesn't want to play the same roles and similar characters over and over again and wants to work on expanding his acting range.
Poor you. you must've not seen Shin Ha Kyun in Beyond Evil then...
What's wrong with my comment? I like SJK too, and since dearD4NI likes SJK's acting so much in Vincenzo to say that he's the actor of the year, by my comment I just hoped dearD4NI would see SHK's acting in Beyond Evil to get even more blown away by fantastic acting skills than they did by SJK in Vincenzo.
I'm not saying that one is better than the other as there's a reason why both SHK and SJK are nominated for the Best Actor for Drama award. But imo SHK got to show a wider acting range thanks to the amazing script and the well-written character he played in Beyond Evil. SJK is great too, but the script in Vincenzo and Vincenzo's character development are way weaker than those in Beyond Evil. Yep, both dramas are different genres and it's only natural that the scripts differ, but Beyond Evil allowed SHK to show a wider acting range than SJK could show in Vincenzo.
One could watch this drama for the acting only as everyone's performance is fucking amazing. Even the characters who have a one minute screen time are great. It's so hard to find a drama where every actor is amazing and knows what they're doing. The OST is so well-chosen and it had an oldschool vibe to it, which fits this drama so well.
I'd dare to say this is a must watch for those who like psychological thrillers and who don't mind having no romance in a kdrama. And I know it's only April, but I think it's one of the best psychological thriller kdramas in 2021 (or maybe even all time).
Also, Shin Ha Kyun deserves to win this freaking award. His portrayal of Lee Dong Shik couldn't have been better.
"An official from the SBS stated that 'there hasn't been any discussion regarding the production of the second season'". So nothing is confirmed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
