I've rewatched this drama, finally, after three years. I enjoyed it far more the second time through than the first time. My first time, I'd just finished watching Romance of Tiger and Rose and wasn't in the right mindset for a slower romance drama at the time, so I rated it pretty low. This is about an 8 or an 8.5 for me now.
Hi i just finished watching the last episode. Has anyone read the novel? Is the ending in the novel just the same…
In the novel, Miao Miao sacrifices herself within the formation to save Mu Sheng’s life, but Mu Sheng goes after her and they both survive, and Miao Miao stays in the novel world with Mu Sheng. Also in the novel Mu Sheng isn’t an author who is undergoing surgery in the real world. He and Miao Miao get married and have a kid by the end.
The ending made me want to watch Moonlight again; even though I didn't enjoy that drama very much, it has the happy ending we deserved from this drama. While I wish the original ending from the novel had been kept, I understand that unfortunately China's censors would not allow this to happen. God forbid MiaoMiao stay in the book world and live happily ever after with Ziqi, Fuyi and Mu Yao. I wish that MiaoMiao and Ziqi had at least had been on screen together in the present day, that would've been better than just his voice offscreen. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this drama and while I don't dislike the ending, it could have been better.
It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that good. It started getting boring around the halfway mark, and then I started watching at 1.75x speed to get it over faster. It picked up again in the last few episodes, so this was a solid 7 for me. The cops not helping Sun Jae in ep 13 made zero sense whatsoever.
I wish there was a way to set a countdown reminder on MDL once the airing date is public (and I don't mean the countdown that they put on the drama page, I mean a way to get a notification on MDL of how many days are left until a drama starts airing). I want to watch this one so baaaad.
It's not really a novel in the sense of "telling a story", but it is rather a collection of mythology and geography of ancient China. It talks a lot about landscapes, ancient deities, mystical animals and monsters, folk remedies, and the like. There are adaptations in English that you can find on Amazon and other online booksellers. This show is only very, very loosely based on the original, in the sense that most likely some of the enemies they fight or gods they reference will be sourced from "Classic of Mountains and Seas".
I couldn't finish this drama, I stopped after episode 4. Though it's been quite a few years, so I might have to try again just for Kim Seon Ho's scenes. The main couple where just not clicking for me. Not dissing on D.O.'s acting skills, I know he can act, but I feel he's more suited for dramatic roles rather than comedy. Either that or the comedy in this drama was just not very funny.
one of the main reasons being the ML is literally FL's brother in law like thats so messed up???? why is no one…
I haven't read the novel, so I'm watching the drama without any preconceptions. I'm at episode 21 and the only thing I haven't liked so far is just the amount of screentime spent on Ji Man's cosmetics business.
What does the novel focus on, in comparison to the show?
Yes and no. It's based off of a BL book, but because it is a Chinese drama and BL (or any gay romance) is not legal in their tv media due to govt censorship, we at most will get bromance, and definitely plot changes to avoid any kind of explicit romantic material between the two male leads. So if you want the actual gay content, you'll have to read the book.
I'm a little confused. So if Yin Jiao had his head cut off at the end of the movie, but the Nezha was gonna take his body to Kunlun, does that mean he's supposed to be back alive in the sequel film?
This was one of the first modern c-dramas I ever watched, and honestly it got so boring sometimes i had to fast-forward. I haven't watched season 2 yet, and I don't know if I ever will.
