The story was too short. It make me fell they didn't have enough time to give an interesting ending. But... I…
Transgender and intersex are two different things. Regardless of this, they didn't really explore this aspect of the change nor explain it fully the reason why she couldn't choose her sex. It seemed more like a plot device to tell a romance story that is quirky rather than truly explore the emotional complications of a forced change. I took the final scenes as he was going to take his life due to those conflicting emotions especially after the situation with both his friends in the last few minutes of the show and where he was standing but I could be wrong since the story ended there. But yeah, they needed another hour at least to flesh it all out. Otherwise, the two main leads had really good chemistry.
This is under rated. For 10 episodes the pacing was really good and the story kept flowing. It was simple yet enough. It was a good ride leaving me feeling content. I got here what I am not getting from Cutie Pie - character development, mature decisions, communication and story line.
This episode reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld where George proposes a TV show to Jerry:Jerry: Well what's…
Seinfeld worked because of the carefully chosen comedians who understood what they were doing thus it was still entertaining to watch them all for several seasons. And it may have been an episode that it was discussed, but Seinfield was literally thought up in that exact same manner and the whole series was meant to be about nothing in particular. That was a very meta scene - art imitates life imitates art. Cutie Pie does not have the same goals and thus fails because there is too much nothing. It is almost like they were forced to create Why R U with nothing but heavy skinship because of the pandemic and so they thought they could just do it again even though there is no pandemic to make excuses with with better cinematography and props.
I'm not sure why BL fans are always delusional and don't see the reality of mediocre shows just because the lead…
Truth. I mean its beautifully shot and the put money into this and the boys can all act... but I am also missing real depth and story and progress from the two main couples and wish there was more sweetness of the third because although that is developing sweetly, it is also too slow for what is left of the drama. Even knowing Yi and Diao back story (someone explained the novel version to me) on screen it I really don't understand how this relationship developed or how it is even a relationship. Like... all they do is stare at each other and then kiss. They don't say anything relationship meaningful. They act like two strangers. I thought at least last ep or two episodes, the fact that Kuea is in another major should have come out already because theres no real big deal for Lian. At least Kuea should have revealed all his secrets by now since they aren't anything major. Then he has a leg to stand on to demand Lian confide in him too. It's all a little silly.
Omgosh YESSS someone who has the same feelings I do!!I actually watched 2moons2 first and I did not care for the…
Same. I like the original better than 2moons2 and did not care much for the Main leads in the 2nd. Most BL actors get into BL to get fame quickly because the fans are super crazy and supportive of those who do it whether the show is good or not. Back then BL shows were so far and few between so it makes sense. Unfortunately God did not know when to open his mouth and when not to. Most newbies to BL do start off terrible and stiff and then get used to it over time when they get used to the idea and more experienced in acting. I think he was promising but he was not smart nor was his management company in handling it.
Did you manage to make it and was it worth it? I have been struggling to get through this for a year now if not…
Thanks. I also decided to drop it. I hate dropping shows and have managed to push myself through some occasionally but I just couldn't do it with this one at all. I agree that the psycho king was really good but everyone else in the show irritated me to no end. I usually really like the main actress too and was hoping once the show moved on from her younger years that it would get better.... but it didn't.
Guys, do you know other dramas with a strong FL and a submissive ML like this? Please give some recommendations.
Like the others said, Girl Like Me and Autumn Ballad are two that I recently watched just before this and enjoyed them both. Looking further back, Oh My General has role reversal like this. She is a strong Military general and her husband is a flamboyant weak man, but they come together and support each other very organically. I watched it a few times and now thinking again of it I fancy watching it again. Plus it is Sandra Ma, so you get quality acting. Qing Luo also has a strong female lead but perhaps the Male Lead is strong too and not what you are after.
I was so looking forward to more Prince Ning and Xiao Bei scenes with AJiao, but with so few eps left, I don't think it will happen the way I want it, I'm on ep 31.
There are a couple. Not many. Doesn't really matter though in the grand scheme of things. Its so fun to watch regardless as its not about romance, but more about marriage and family and friends.
This is really interesting! Some titles that I always wondered about / thought were weird:- A female student arrives…
To be a snail means something specific in Chinese culture (I think it was Chinese) - I cant remember what exactly. But I have heard in dramas and read in books here and there people mentioning snails such as being reborn a snail or being snail like. Sorry I realise that was not very helpful. LOL. I only found online that it represents fertility or perseverance and tolerance in Japanese culture. I can't remember the scene that I recently heard this particular animal being referred to. I do remember feeling that it was not necessarily a negative thing.
But as I read the other titles in your list, I think there is a lot of lost meaning because of the symbolism of those words from their particular culture and Chinese culture is particularly poetic especially rooted in ancient times. I know Dragons have very deep and powerful meanings - often imperial in nature.
I just looked up 'please don’t date him' and after reading the synopsis I can see how that title loosely translates to what the show is about. I see titles like this on other dramas where its usually the opposite of what it is about - like a negative meaning (but in a positive way -I don't know how to explain it - like the timid/innocent type person saying no when they mean yes). I have watched so many dramas, these titles hardly phase me any more. lol Like - Mr Yan Dong! Don’t Come Over - its a negative title but obviously a couple are gonna end up together.
The one title that has ALWAYS annoyed me to no end when I see it (on netflix) is The Inheritors. That is the most nonsensical title I have ever seen, especially when they already have a perfectly adequate translation with Heirs. Anyone can 'inherit' something, anything even, but 'Heirs' implies a certain expectation of wealth, tradition and entitlement which the drama itself is about. I can inherit my parent's property, but no one will ever say I am an heir as that has completely different connotations. The people in the drama however are chaebols and therefore can be considered 'Heirs' to their parent's wealth, reputation, industry and power. Inheritors always winds me up when I see it.
Boys Over Flowers - has become its own thing now. Well known and very popular. I regard the term 'boys' to include young adults up to 25 years - usually can still be in university so this title also made sense to me considering the age group of the drama setting. However I thought the terms boys over flowers had more to do with 'Flower boys' and agree now that I understand the term dumplings over flowers as meaning substance over flowers - that means so much more now to the content and message of the drama. Boys Over Flowers comes across very superficial in that regard.
Ones I don't get still though - - Here to Heart - King2Hearts - The Fox's Summer (I love this drama but I don't really know what that titles is about- probably more to do with the Fox characteristics rather than summer)
So I see Tommy and Jimmy made a cameo there but who were the other two? I couldn't place them.
Qing Luo also has a strong female lead but perhaps the Male Lead is strong too and not what you are after.

Even the Pancreas one LOL! For example - Dirty Mama, if it were a western drama, I would have thought it would be risqué, however because I know its an Asian Drama, my mind never went there. Clean with passion for now - I also didn't take it literally. I knew it was a romance drama so the passion part had more to do with the romance rather than the business although it was a nice play on the two.
