I watched the movie version on viki. Its short and sweet but nothing too intense. Its safe and fluffy and great acting. The characters aren't that fleshed out, there is no real emotionally deep situations although they did try to allude to situations that have strong emotional ties. Had it been longer I could see how it would have played out in real KDrama style. But this was enough for me. Very handsome actors. Lots of eye candy and I think it works better in a movie style than in episodes as there isn't too much to hold short episodes together.
As audience, we have the privilege of seeing everything unfolding before us, every characters’ actions, words…
It was also very clear to me too. They play their character well and its understandable what all their friends are thinking and why they act the way they do. No mystery here and no confusing as to whether Wai is more than a friend because he clearly is just a friend and acting as one should.
OMG right. I am so done at this point. I was already checking out of this "romance" because she was just so selfish and arrogant and then she went and did and said those things?! Making it all his fault and problem? Like what? This the type of woman who give us women a bad reputation. I am pushing through coz I like everyone else though. That young boy is amazing actor - I burst in to tears watching him cry after his parents got back together.
Dead guy's wife screams to Du Sik: "YOU KILLED HIM!!!!!!!!!"Dead guy's death: *regular car crash*
OMG right. But then again no KDrama will have the male lead be truly guilty. There will always be some misunderstanding so he is innocent. This was so disappointing though with the way they built up the entire series to it.
It was a solid drama but nothing to be hyped about. It was boring at times and the whole plot with Du-Shiks backround…
I agree. I am on 15 and the whole reveal was so disappointing. Actually it would have been better if his character was actually care free so it can teach people around him about what is important, rather than make it about someone running away out of guilt and failure. Also everyone hating on him when he really did nothing was really too much for convenience of the plot and silly. For a show in 2021, they really packed the star crossed lovers thing in as well. I have never seen quite as much crossing of paths in a drama. It was quite irritating. Saying that, I don't think Du Shik's character was unflawed. His flaws to me was that he did not have any plan for the future and didn't care to be polite to anyone. He was also very gruff and rude when he meets people for the first time and stubborn and closed off. Although it can be seen as good things because the culture may be too rigid, but really it makes things difficult for everyone. I don't think Hye Jin actually had any character development. So far she really hasn't stood up to her superficial friends or made any real efforts to change or admit her way of living is not making her happy. I mean, I guess maybe they left that for ep 16 but surely we should have seen hints of that by now?
ep 13 and I still can't stand the FL. She's so fake and manipulative gosh
I agree. I made it to ep 15 and I still don't like her. I would have normally finished a drama series by now but I have to say, she doesn't get any better. I really don't like this type of female lead archetype. It is quite dated for this day and age and doesn't sit right with me. Her character is so contradictory. I don't think they wrote her well.
I'm seeing more and more CDramas rip off music from KDramas and I'm wondering how they keep getting away with…
Are you sure these dramas aren't from the same production company or had the same music director behind them? Because even in the West this happens, they just change a little and re-use it. Or the back melody is actually a classical song that has free rights to it and people may layer on top and it may sound similar to each other as they have the same source.
This is pretty safe short and sweet drama to pass the time. It's pretty predictable, nothing to write home about. It's a bit of a rom com wannabe using weird cartoon interjections and various international music styles in places. Interesting to see something different than the usual even if it does use all the usual tropes. Kind of like a telenovela, so much drama - but gets resolved quickly. The female character is strong throughout, no sudden change to a helpless lady although the last predicament was a bit much. All these memory loss storylines are a bit much but it didn't detract too much. Nice for a rainy day or to pass the time easily.
She is preggo he said it on a letter so is a shotgun wedding.
It's not like it was a one night stand or a very new relationship. They've been in a relationship for several years already. Whatever order or reason to get married, it's hardly scandalous at this point.
I think I missed something. Why does Wai and Korn hate each other so much.
They are probably gonna be the second couple so they gotta start with some angst to romance trope - "bad buddy". It will probably be revealed in time. They are just setting up the main couple now.
Well, I actually liked this episode and thought it was too short. I knew it was coming because with 2 eps to go, they needed to rush the reconciliation, but I feel there was an episode missing between the last episode and this one. It needed a bit more of something to show the change in feelings and the acceptance of feelings and the slow reconciliation of them. That may have made the kitchen scene and Aek's personality change a little bit less unusual and jarring. If I forget how much I disliked last episode and the lead up to it, this on its own was nice and seemed to have found a bit of balance and pacing. Unfortunately it is quite late in the game. If the director has started to learn and adapt how to use his Swedish style skills effectively, then he could make some really good drama's but he still has a way to go.
@BLandK-dramaFan SK have a production company called Strongberry on Youtube and Vimeo and GagaOolala. They have really nice independent LGBT dramas like Long Time No See and smaller projects. Really good quality for a small company and mostly happy endings so far. Viki also has lots of SK BLs now that you can also find on Netflix that are sweet and happy.
The Boy Next Door is not BL but still really clever and fun to watch.
Exactly! Why is it so ridiculous? I started this show cos of the chemistry between the actors, and initially didn't…
Yeah I didn't watch that advert because the tone was not in keeping to what happened in the show that episode and just felt like a bit of a slap in the face.
There is a difference between slow-burning and slow. I have watched 50 episode drama that took 49 episodes for…
I watched Young Royals recently. That’s Swedish. Come to think of it, there was a lot of slow speech but not this slow and also made sense to the scene and atmosphere so it added to the feeling, not just random and slow all the time. It was beautiful. I’ve rewatched it so many times already.
