Xiao Zhan is convincingly powerful in The Youth Memories, acting as a soldier, too. But usually they're all so slim, and it takes away some of the disbelief. Even BJT - he was kind of way too thin in You Are My Hero (despite the training sequences too, LOL).

The actually normal-strong-looking men I've seen in cdrama were all in the Nirvana in Fire duology (so far), hahaha. Wang Kai was (still is) one of my favourites because of that role, and TBH... Huang XiaoMing looked SO good in S2. But that kind of role/actor is so rare, and there's a lot of time in-between. *sad mood, sigh*

TBH, I did watch the first ep and I like the ML (yes I'm shallow, what of it?) But it's the FL that caught my attention. She has an aloofness - particularly with her family around - that I find really interesting.

That being said, it's on hold for now because seriously, why is she suddenly so obsessed? And also, to paraphrase Rick Blaine - of all the cities in China, of all the buildings in the city that it rains on... he has to hold up an umbrella for her at that particular building?! LOL. The writing needs to improve, and fast. I'll still give it a try, because of the FL. But I am not really caught.

Happily, they didn't make him a soldier, 'cause he sure doesn't seem to be one (what is it with the cdrama obsession with people being stick-thin?! If the wind blows a bit harder, it'll take the leads and ta-da, they won't be in Kansas anymore, no red shoes needed!)

As for cnetz - just a thing: if the producers didn't want it to be compared to DOTS, they shouldn't have borrowed so much from DOTS (I don't mean they plagiarised, because things are different, BUT it does look like they heavily leaned on things that are a bit similar to get a bit more interest due to the fame cone of DOTS.) And if they meant that similarity, please please please cdrama producers of TWOT... DO NOT BORROW the same freaking ending!! (because that ruined that drama, LOL).

PS Also Wang ZhuoCheng is in this, so I'll probably watch it anyway for him, because he'll always be my favourite frustrated straight-arrow king-of-side-eye rolls JC :D

PPS Wait now I'm getting into this a bit more. The Martian is hard sci fi (minus the Martian winds that DO exist, but couldn't really get that powerful.

Bonus: nobody following real science would've missed this, but for those who never went there... mankind sent a little quake-measuring robot on Mars, and it recorded Martian wind sounds. They're very weak, and given the Martian atmosphere you probably couldn't really hear them by ear only, or not much, but they exist. Wind sounds, on another planet. When Insight beamed it home, I teared up. THIS is science.

They're three different books, with different characters :D

MDZS is the one most adapted - there's the novel, the audio drama, the donghua (three seasons, it's complete), the chibi donghua (MDZS Q). And obviously the drama.

The other two of her novels only have donghua adaptations (SVSSS one season in, not finished, TGCF two seasons in, not finished) and I think there are audio dramas too.

I HIGHLY recommend reading the books (or at least MDZS) because the drama, the donghua and the audio drama are all censored (the audio drama the least of all) and there are way more interractions between the leads than what is shown in either adaptation. And because they're really sweet together (when WWX isn't dumb LOL). And because of the extras :D

The books (all three different novels, LOL) have all been officially TLed into English, and there's still the fan TL somewhere floating around the internet, I'm sure.

MDZS is Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation :)

The author (Mo Xiang Tong Xu, shortened to MXTX) only wrote three books so far - MDZS, on which The Untamed is based, Scum Villain's Self-Saving System (SVSSS) and Heaven Official's Blessing (HOB or TGCF). They're all great - and so are a lot of other danmei novels :)

The books are all officially TLed (in ebook and on paper, they all look amazing, but they're a bit pricey and there are a lot of volumes. Let me know if you're in need of some help ;)

That bird was everyone's favourite joke target. What is it exactly? Is it an owl? Is it an eagle? Is it a crow? It's.... (whateverthehellthatwas) Bird!! :D

Myself, I love the actual hidden puppeteer in the later parts (won't spoil who). He is the very best gray-hero-definitely-not-really-cool manipulator xianxia ever saw :)

(Also, the part where LWJ raises kids among the bunnies is not made up, LOL. And the bunnies DO interract a lot more in the chibi donghua MDZS Q, but then they're animated so it can be done :D)

They didn't LOL, it was a joke. HE did nod to them as he was leaving, so that counts though :D

Both are main characters, so in dramas you'd shorten it to MC. But in danmei, usually the gong (seme/top) would be called ML, and the shou (uke/bottom) would be called MC. They're just most-used references, so that people easily identify their roles, if they're so differentiated. I guess at least for danmei, it transferred to drama too.

There are some novels where the leads switch, but most of the time, since authors are mainly women, there's a clear separation and it matters who's gong and who's shou because of the tropes (particularly in historical danmei).

Where do you think all those white bunnies waving goodbye to LWJ came from? They're all from the cave, he takes care of them - and later he'll raise kids between bunnies LOL - and he likes everything bunny (this isn't going to be the only bunny depiction that WWX finds and BRINGS to LWJ to show, LOL. Poor LWJ must suffer in silence because WWX is so dumb about these things :D )

(There's a hilarious BTS where Xiao Zhan is cuddling the bunnies and being a LOT more gentle with them than WWX, and one of them drops a gift in Wang YiBo's hands while he's handling the bunny, LOL. The rabbits must've loved WWX in secret :D WYB didn't even seem mad at all about it.)

The rabbits and the cut-sleeve moments come a lot in novels - AND dramas, LOL - and yeah, they're kind of in-your-face in spite of censorship :)

I almost didn't go on because of the first four minutes with that empty but perfect highway in the desert and then suddenly a full-blown war-zone in the city that somehow appeared on that highway, LOL. But one takes everything with a big grain of salt.

As usual in a drama about doctors, most of them appear to live in the hospital (almost no home scenes at all), most don't have any family (none of them call home to tell people they're late or not coming over), or if they do, their family gets to use the hospital due to accidents or illnesses etc. All of their relationships (as in, friendship or enmity) are with other medical staff, LOL, all their romances are with other hospital staff... And obviously they're working 24x7, barely catching a few minutes of sleep here and there.

Dramas about doctors are meant to scare off med students, LOL.

I haven't read it yet, (because Priest). SO FAR, my favourite characters in danmei are Chu WanNing (from 2ha), Wei WuXian (obviously), Shen QingQiu (from SVSSS), Shen ZeChuan (from QJJ), Bai Lang (from Rebirth of a Movie Star) and Wu XingZi (from You've Got Mail). And there are many others, but these above all others. And I have many more stories to still read, some of them well-known titles :D

Ah, the saga of epic Jiang Cheng side-eye rolls, LOL. He is SO fed-up with WWX's antics.

And on the other side of the fence, Lan XiChen is reading LWJ's mind and tempting him with our hero being a total come-get-me... errr, I mean being so unscholarly and fun. WWX was born to annoy people.

There are quite a lot of youtube selections of JC's eyerolls caused by WWX, once you're done, you could look them up, they're hilarious :D

PS You do know the significance of bunnies in danmei, right?... And why it's so funny that LWJ LOVES bunnies and WWX is completely oblivious to it? :D
