There might be some confusion stemming from what the drama changed compared to the novel, because a lot of the characters are switched around. For example, the doctor in the novel is the wife of the politician and in the drama it's the other way around. There is not just one police officer but two, and the second one is a woman (she's the most important in clearing up (novel) GJW's accusations, as the man is indeed mostly occupied with his marriage's dissolution. )

The novel is pretty short, I'd reccomend reading it, BUT it does already differ enough from the drama that it's not really needed TBH. I prefer the drama - they're focusing on GJW and his struggle, while the novel is the regular police story with two main characters that are police officers (and in the middle of a pretty long series, to boot).

This is obviously an adaptation so they CAN (and already did) change many things from the original source. But I don't think they'll change something so important, since HS is supposed to be one of the two GJW's supporters in that town, and in the original she survives.

The novel doesn't go beyond the two murders from ten years back, so maybe the drama won't have more people die, either, LOL.

And SuOh.

TBH, I don't quite like the novel all that much, though I don't hate it either. It's either something lost in translation, or NN really does have a writing style that's way too pragmatic for my taste (maybe it feels a bit mechanical at some points).

I particularly don't like the way she introduces new characters, no matter their importance or roles (full name, full job position, something they feel about the discussion in case, or something they're doing at random before being involved in the main story. And then, some of the really unimportant ones never appear again. It's like she made a list of these minor characters, got them detailed descriptions, and never thought all those details have no impact on the story and aren't really necessary to the reader.) After the first two or three times she did it, it became rather predictable and homework-like and kept taking me out of the story.

I only read this one, too, I don't know if the other novels in the series are TLed into English so can't compare this case with any other case these two police persons were part of before (or after). For me, the drama is better, focusing on the character with the most impact on the viewer, rather than on the police work (that also differs a lot from what German officers would do instead), considering the main character who is a police officer in the drama doesn't even exist in the novel either, but takes on bits of the two MCs in the novel.

So far, this is a very good adaptation, keeping the heart of the story and fleshing it out in a very SK way and making it distinct from its very European roots.

I don't know what they're talking about in that section. There is no other murder that's going to happen in the book. Maybe they're talking about the disappearance of one (and then the second) person involved with the original accused MC, which almost spurs on another witch hunt for him, who is immediately blamed for the (first one's) disappearance.

There is, however, another (accidental) death but it's at the end of the novel.

I don't want them to be really brothers, and liking each other a whole lot, then having to compete for the scumbag's attention. P*ss off with your conglomerate and let the kids be free to like each other and marry whom they will. What the hell was that with the 3rd degree? He's lucky there was no soup or he'd be drenched in it.

The second pair is moving too slow, the bromance is beautiful (between KJU and BGH).

That trust fall made me flashback immediately to Sean letting go and Black not catching him LOL.

So, his dad the coward CEO remembered (finally) he has another son who he wants to replace BGH with. BGH really is unlucky in love and in parents too.

Is BGH still carrying her to the hospital, 2 days later, though? :D And wow, he set that fake accident with the TruckofDoomTM's driver?!! Sneaaaaaaky!

Ah dammit, he really is...

Anyway. KJW drinking water turned into Basic Instinct LOL. I felt that.

Also, the man assigned to him: "I am 40, want to see my ID?"
KJW *instinctively*: "YES!"

I think I'll like that character a lot. Why is it that secretary types in this drama are so efortlessly funny?!

He wanted to tell the truth, but his father wouldn't let him - (BE) GeonOh that is. He ran away after (BE) BoYeong fell, so he didn't know what they did to her after. Yeah, he always lived under a shadow afterwards.

In the book it ends with the culprits arrested and (BE) GJW getting a kind of a late-address of everything (the book involves land theft and other things that haven't come up in the drama, or not yet), but nothing from the girls' parents. TBH, in Germany what the father did to (BE) GJW's mother wouldn't be dismissed, and so he's still in prison awaiting trial before it ends. In the drama.... IMHO I think NaGyeom will tell him what the boys did to SBY, and he'll try to do the same to them what he wanted to do to GJW.

As for GJW... I like the drama way better than the novel. He's just as good a character in the novel, but the POVs are split and the detectives are taking up a lot more of the plot, since he's not the actual MC of the series. But in the drama they're focusing on him, and Byun YoHan's acting is making him so much more sympathetic, you can't help but grieve and rage for him.

I really hope they can keep it up to the end and he gets a HE (as partial as it is) with Ha Seol. And that NSC ties all the leads and punishes each and every one of them.

... I wouldn't say no to some fire that burns down the whole village, or at least the culprits' houses, either...

GJW is his safe haven LOL, he feels secure enough to sleep there :D

Just kidding, I know they're not going anywhere like that with the story, it just seems funny when you think about it like that :D

(BE) NaGyeom. She was (still is) madly (as in, insane) in love with (BE) JW (and he IS kind of perfect TBH) but she was tomboyish when younger and he never paid her attention other than considering her a friend and a little sister. She was there for the rape (ick), the boys were drunk, shocked and in a terror about what had happened, and she manipulated them into getting rid of (BE) SBY, despite it being just an accident originally. She was jealous of all girls around (BE) JW, and (BE) BoYeong was too close to him for her liking.

And she was stupid enough to think he'd only get some juvie detention in any case so she didn't tell the truth and then it was too late for him. Stupid bitch. (Yeah I hate her character, did so in the book too).

He slept at GJW's house one night. That counts LOL (for him not sleeping in his car.)

In the book (which can change in the drama), it was an accident initially. While she ran away from the two men who raped her, she ran into (book-equivalent) GeonOh, flinched (because she maybe thought he would rape her too), fell and hit her head. She DIDN'T die. But they listened to someone's advice (won't spoil who, unless you ask :D ) to throw her in the sewer (an old oil tank in the book), put her in the trunk of (BE) JeongWoo's car, leaving her blood in there, drove her to the sewer/oil tank then left her there, ALIVE. One of the parents decided to block the tank/sewer lid so they couldn't get her out again when they got remorseful.

But because of the rape, and because (BE) GeonOh was there, his father covered it all up (he's not a police chief in the book, but someone really powerful politically and financially).

Reese can be a bitch. Orca should teach him some manners while he's at "it".

GJW really seems to have a death wish LOL. Lucky for him, he's a cat.

I don't know, as he's not really taken directly from the novel (there is no equivalent for him, he's more of a composite of two detectives who both survive). Given this is a kdrama and they might want to include more action or dramatic moments... who knows.

But I think he'll be okay.

TBH there is no NSC in the novel. NSC is more of a composite of two detectives, one of them a woman. The book is one in the middle of a whole series (I think they only TLed this one to English, though I am not sure) so (book-equivalent) JeongWoo's case is just a case among many for them. For what it's worth, the male detective is more concerned with his deteriorating marriage through the whole book and most of the footwork is done by the female detective, who is in a loving relationship ETA with someone else LOL.

So I guess we could see NSC going back home to his original position, if they want to give him a HE too :D

They find out everything. He's innocent and the real (surviving) culprits are arrested. Still, because why not, when all ends he's back in the hospital with a gunshot wound and (book-equivalent) Ha Seol by his side.

Also, because the author likes to torture this character, he has no family left and all his friends but (book-equivalent) SuOh have betrayed him in the cruelest ways. So it's like a Pyrrhic victory in the end for him.
