I think I’ve never seen a drama with so many little significant scenes included that are not entirely anything…
The Untamed did it the same - a lot of foreshadowing and planting hints before the second arc. And they wrapped it all up in the last few eps, too. It's just a different kind of story - this one feels more like a historical and that one was danmei wuxia after all.

Deng Kai was in a good support role in The Wanted Detective, and I noticed him before in Follow Your Heart (I haven't yet managed to finish a short drama). He had support roles in regular-length dramas before, not just short form.
He needs to die in another fire and this time nobody saves him. He's hot, let's make it hotter for him.
I don't know how he dies, but he deserves it. I hope they didn't write in a redemption arc. I mean, I seriously appreciate male beauty and even like a hint of crazy, but this guy is torturing his young son, killing people left and right, abusing his kid's mom (I can't call her any kind of "wife" or concubine to him since I don't think she's that to him).
If he and his brother don't both die, then there'll be riots.
As for the actor - yes Deng Kai is fire, let's have him get more good roles to show off his skill!

The little kid killed me this ep - I seriously hope they have some emotional coach there because that little boy looked definitely afraid and in shock and I know they're actors, and they would probably go through scenes so that the kids know it's play/acting... but he made me afraid for him. I wish QianQian never saved that insane ungrateful's ass in the first place.
What's the old nanny's business though? She acts more like the Custodian of Imperial Blood than anything else, doesn't the crazy duo have actual crazy parents? Why is it on her to make sure he had a kid, and then to save that kid from his father?
And come to speak of old farts, WHAT THE HELL is Xie Zheng's old mentor doing in the freaking frontlines?! Sir, you're there, she's there, do a good thing and TEACH HER TO READ properly, then condense 20 years of classics' study into one or two months until hubs shows up, and make her READY to take over the household 'cause he DEFINITELY isn't able, what with being STILL so stupid.
So, her father (?) who wasn't Fan Erniu, killed himself - did he kill his wife too or did they kill themselves each on their own over Wei Yan's threat? Did these guys ever think of raising up their household, get their daughters and freaking FLEE?? I hate this trope so much. I mean, they're dead and their daughters (?) still aren't safe. And now they're parentless too. Drama tropes, lay off already.
I expected ChangYu to keep going to save kidnapped children - she did say she had a part in cleaning up more bandits lairs but she should have kept doing it.

I wanted a better ending for the Mu twin. So he was in love with her but had played her for all her worth before he turned dark out of the blue - because WHY would he kill the Beidou disciples when it was basically 100% certain they couldn't defeat Nie-long-name-I-can't-remember. It makes no sense. Also... if Nie-whatever DID die, wasn't that Mu twin's original purpose?! So it was a win-win no matter what if the formation actually worked (which it wouldn't have because they weren't any kind of masters).
I don't know how it goes in the book, maybe they whitewashed him enough that the original ending for the character makes no sense for the drama one, once he truly falls in love. If he was evil, he should've stayed evil. If he turned to the right side, keep him on the right side. Have Nie-the first one kill the disciples, JOIN St. PingShu in her fight against him, die a hero. I mean, it's Li YunRui, obviously he wouldn't be a complete evil character but make it make sense!
And I am a bit disappointed in the (lack of) growth for Uncle Lei's character. Weren't they (most of them) the heroes of their age? So he KNEW all this time what his Sect's Master was doing, killing people, causing disasters with his corpse fighters plague, and so on - and did NOTHING?! NOTHING AT ALL??? Why were he and St. PingShu even friends then?! He couldn't have been such a coward in her times.
The only plausible explanations for the last ep are that they strayed so far from the original work that they couldn't make it back to track in time and just had to slap a haphazard ending over it.
At least I've finally noticed Zhou YiRan, I'll be looking for his dramas. Yu JiaCheng has the build and presence to become a ML but IMHO they overdid it a bit with this role. Not his fault, but the character overstayed his presence in the last ep...
Oh well, it WAS entertaining for a long time. The frustration comes mostly from the part where I expected MQY to lie there dying and making a will and giving everything away in order to have her commit to marrying him and leaving her no way out of it and then to go "PSYCH!!!! Made you believe I was dying - well, I'm not, let's get married!" That would've been 1000% in line with the character and his scheming shameless ways.
