Yu Jin's kneeling protest (complete with the rain) reminds me of that protest in Moon Lovers LOL, when the FL was kneeling to beg for that woman's life. The second half is way better than the first - more put together, they all found their acting stride, no more jumping from one plotline to another. I like it a lot.

For one thing, higher ratings in dramas airing on paid networks (cable) like TvN are showing a good success for the drama (since they're paying for the ads). On the other hand though, a higher rating for a drama airing on a ~free~ network also has a lot more exposure (in total numbers, since it's free) and leads to earnings (they obviously aren't doing it for the sake of artistic development). But the percentages that mean "high ratings" are way different. Something that get 5-10% on tvN is good, while under 3% it's probably a flop (ratings-wise anyway). For SBS, they need to go higher. Free-to-air used to get as high as 30-40% ratings (which only means how many people watched, not that they liked it, LOL), but now with the changing habits of viewers, going above 10% (and as high as possible) is noted as good ratings.

Now media is consumed differently, so whenever there's another option (like pay-to-watch, or OTT networks airing at the same time, like D+, NF, etc) the data is skewed. Most younger people watch dramas OTT, but ratings are usually based on TV devices (that older people still use) and on what the networks themselves report. So it's tricky.

ETA Here's Nielsen's ratings page, BH is second most-watched after the weekend drama (Eagle Brothers - take notice weekenders are ALWAYS higher-rated than short-form dramas):

Again... this counts only domestic audience. I don't know if they ever count the international audience (they're measuring audience in the interest of commercial success LOL, SK would buy what they're advertising in those dramas, not the rest of the world.)

ETA2 Now you've made me curious so I went to check. Previous dramas from SBS in the same timeslot were averaging around 10% overall (Love Scout, Fiery Priest 2, The Judge from Hell - this one surprised me, there was so much hype on MDL I thought it would be way higher.) Good Partner made over 12-14% average, though (and it's not well-rated, but it got the audience), while Connection made around 9%. Even Flex X Cop only averaged around 8% and My Demon got around 4% LOL.

So that means that if Buried Hearts keeps growing and ends with a 10-11% rating average... it's a regular SBS drama. If it goes above... well then. But we'll see. They have another half to grow or fall.

I had this impression she got wind of it from someone in NIS, but it looks like - or at least that's what HaeSong thinks - that it was her plan from the very beginning, she picked the personnel in charge (that means him), knew all about it, just put them on the scent and waited for them to find the prey (the hidden gold).

And it definitely looks like Mr. An is way too deep - I guess that's how he affords to put his daughter in this school. If it's true, it'll be a sad thing for HaeSong.

My out of this world theory is that whoever stabbed the FL is either Mr. An (most probably) or ML's dad, fantastically risen from the dead or something. Though TBH I am not all that invested anymore in that plotline. We're on the last stretch and it keeps devolving into romance so I'm... kind of losing interest.

Ep8 is a bit better, less silly rom-com, more serious plot. I liked it.

All good makjang is addictive, it doesn't matter what other genre they throw in. It's like gossiping with the neighbours about someone who's not there, LOL, a guilty pleasure that's usually pretty harmless. And also hilarious at the same time, as we're now wondering how come any and all killers in this drama can't figure out how to take out SDJ (I don't want him dead, but I like seeing them try and fail, hahaha~)

Unless she's an elephant (their pregnancies last for some 22 months or so), she's not pregnant by SDJ, LOL.

She might want to try again, as it's implied she already tried once when he was a child.

They make him marry the princess, don't they? For filial piety or some other stupid reason?

And Jang Si gets rejected in favour of MingYue?

(I guess she will eventually go to the south, either kidnapped or by her own volition, but I just need to not stress about the marriage event any more.)
