Exactly! I think he chooses his characters really well. And this one is a properly fleshed out character with a visible growth arc and rich relationships.

There is romance. It's just not the fairy tale kind. That would have been so out of place in this show. I can't imagine the serious XBM flirting in the midst of his tragic return.

For any newcomers to this show, ignore the ratings. The intensity of this show is ramping up quickly with each episode. It's well-written, intelligent, and beautifully shot. And the acting is superb.

The more I watch, the more I realise there's some great writing here. The words XBM says to the prince are almost poetic and WXY delivers them so powerfully.

Okay, episode 27 is officially my favourite. I thought Beiming's detox was amazing, but the Infernal Dungeon trumps it by a mile.

This has all the hallmarks of becoming a cult classic. I'm already sad that only 10 episodes are left. iQIYI should seriously license this to international platforms.

But also with motives for what we initially see as inexplicable behaviour. It all makes sense in context, which we don't get until later episodes.

Awesome, awesome, awesome show! Can't believe people are missing out because 'romance'. This needs to be discovered by the thriller/suspense crowd.

I love that they give nothing away. They treat their audience like intelligent people and don't explain everything. The motto for this marketing team should be, "Patience. 'Twill come."

There are 16 more episodes to go. They have to clear his name, find out what happened at Haiya, and solve at least 2 (3?) more cases.

And catching the perpetrator will be the job of XBM and his team. XBM is owed that.
