I just started this series this weekend and love the twists and turns. Like a Chinese Sherlock with flair (I’m…
Welcome to the cult classic. YESSS! The FL is intelligent. I don't know why people seem to think she's not. She's not to the level of her genius boyfriend and Peacock, but she's still a brilliant constable. She's also very emotionally grounded; you'll see in ep 18.
Love this story, too. I really wish they'll make the second season with the same if not better quality in plot,…
Yes, that suspense build up was intoxicating. But I don't see them doing a second season considering the backlash on the FL. Which is a pity because I would have loved to see their dynamic as an official couple when investigating cases with Peacock; XBM and Peacock competing and ZXM knocking down doors in exasperation.
I've realised that many, many C-Drama viewers are looking for visual prettiness, idealised 'perfect' characters, and emotionally-safe storylines (not enough conflict to make them uncomfortable). They get this in the romance-driven plots that are popular.
The Wanted Detective, however, prioritises narrative depth, character-driven tension, and quiet moments of introspection rather than spectacle or cliffhangers. That's why so many people dropped this show when they found a flawed hero, atmosphere instead of 'glow', moral ambiguity, and devastating consequences (described as 'bugs'). All things that make me LOVE this story.
Very well written story! I loved how the ML being poisoned from the early episodes played a crucial role in the…
Yes. So many people seem unwilling to see the beautiful symmetry. Or just have no patience to follow a story to the end, or think heroes must be perfect in every way.
I have to say, having now watched a few C-Dramas, the cinematography in this is great. It has realistic lighting, for one. Everything isn't uniformly well-lit and smooth. There's actual ATMOSPHERE.
The scene in the Infernal Dungeon (ep 27) is a perfect metaphor for Xiao Beiming. He keeps getting beaten down, but refuses to give up. Against all odds, he keeps going.
Great review. But also, Beiming is a genius. They had to show off his skills, after all. I'm so sad for people who just didn't give this a chance. They really missed out.
"The story [The Wanted Detective] is a compelling ode to the treachery of man and the resilience of the human spirit. And its main lead is one of the most powerful characters I’ve seen in C-dramas..."
Little White Dragon is good or bad? I feel like the way ML got poisoned is too sus.
Little White Dragon is good. And the poisoning will be explained once you get to the end of the show. Almost everything, so far, has been a closed loop. Nothing is unexplained or unnecessary.
Ep 25; Tong Shuang takes the team to the bronze sculptor because he thought the old man was dead! He was hoping to be helpful without helping!!! They really did think through this plot. I'm impressed and surprised every time I rewatch it (third time, now, hehehe. Can't seem to get into anything else).
i don't really get the rating in dramas this is a lot better than legend of female general and has less rating…
Thank you! This is a powerful story, with lots of layers. But people found it boring. I'm beginning to wonder what kind of popcorn entertainment and instant gratification storylines people have become used to.
