I think he really is helping him and covering for him, but also, I don't like when someone thinks something predictable or not shocking, is bad thing. With crime dramas, it should mainly make as much sense as possible, so shocking plot twists or multiple red herrings aren't always good.

Not saying you are entirely wrong and I even watched few of the BLs, but most BL have no real story other than everyone being gay, and kissing and makeouts, toxic (even abusive) relationships. Not many BLs actually give good representation, rather they serve (mostly) straight women who for some odd reason watch anything, as long as it's two boys kissing in it. Otherwise why wouldn't they also watch "straight" dramas? There are other important topics, than being gay, no? And please, I repeat, I am bisexual and I am all for rep and I watch some BLs, so this is not me being homophobic, this is me saying that most BLs don't show struggles of LGBT people and don't help anything.
