I feel the characters of this series on a higher level. I see the acting prowess to be superb. I really believe that this is the most well thought-out BL series of all the gay-themed contents I have consumed.
I am very critical of BL series and it's rare for me to really appreciate the series that I really like. So far, Gaya Sa Pelikula is the Best for me. I may not see eye-to-eye with the creator because of some views (political) but as for the creative aspect, he is really topnotch here. What is important is the art and Gaya sa Pelikula is a very artistic BL series despite the admission of the producers and director that they have incorporated cliches and memorable lines from iconic Filipino movies.
The Untamed and Gaya sa Pelikula have really moved me emotionally as I have been watching each episode. This series deserves a 10.
I wonder if you saw the same thing I saw last week, there was a (now deleted) Twitter thread where fans of a certain…
I have also seen FB posts. They seem to have other agenda with other GMMTV couples.
BL community used to be chill before. Yes, there are instances of divided opinions esp. with MewArt and PerthSaint situations . But to bash other fandoms just so their faves can be more superior than others were unheard of before or, perhaps, I was too busy or not too focused much on other BL shows.
There is a new breed of fans who are disrupting the community that promotes Boys Love. Now they bring on hate. Where's the love here?
I actually want BrightWin to stand out more. They are already regarded as part of royal couples of GMMTV and to break that partnership with LukeWin may not really bode well mostly to their fans.
Actually, when there was a poll, it was MewGulf that won and the runner-up was MaxTul.
The series has been getting hate lately from the antis who also hate on the actors and then to the fandom, which has been supportive of the couple.
It seems there has been an agenda from the toxic fans who favor the other series, that is recently getting downgrade in rating and they also want it to happen to TharnType.
I have already shared my pieces about this series since its first airing. If you think you have a problem with this series, then I suggest you read this thread:
There seems to be orchestrated agenda and that's because another BL fandom tries to take down what seems to be a fandom of dedicated supporters of the couple. And they use the series as some kind of collateral damage.
I don't know the kind of hate that fandom has. I used to deal with homophobic shits before and not other BL fans.
I liked this show as a light cute thing to watch every Friday. I remember seeing some tweet about it and then…
I actually like the Scrubb songs from watching the series. I think if they have been adept in making it a musical series(which I think it is at first) sans the girl drama, it could help in elevating its rating and fill those plot holes.
People aren't ok with murder, but people like horror movies. People aren't ok with natural disasters, but people…
I guess, it has something to do with preferences. And perhaps, I may have misjudged you on that. We all want a series that will have us entertained at the end of the day. It just happens that I like TharnType because even though I thought it would go to the dark route as I expected it might, perhaps, similar to what you have in mind for story-telling as exemplified by the a series you mentioned, but I am also glad that it used a different approach. It didn't go all dark but it focused more on the development of the characters of Tharn and Type, the characters in a BL story in another universe. If it had focused on the dark storyline, then a different title would be more apt for that series.
I have been sharing here that each victim of assault may have similar or different coping mechanisms in living their respective lives as they move forward. Aside from the usual we see in films with that kind of trope, there are other lives that can also be featured. And yes, I have encountered a somewhat similar kind of people such as Type who are victims of rape and assault and one happens to be a lesbian friend, who I couldn't even recognize as a victim because of her positive attitude in life. She wanted to move on with her life and found a lover somewhat similar to Type's attitude. (I actually don't want to share this here but I think it is a good example I could share. She's a victim at 12 and can only see on one eye, a result from that assault)
So if you take Project S an example, then I think it's another example of stereotyping characters who are depressed because of being victims of certain assaults. It's just my assumption. I haven't watched that series though. I'd rather watch a series that may seem a fantasy but at least it brings a certain character to a level of empowerment, not on the usual dark theme we always project on series or films with rape/sexual assault trope. Is it realistic? Perhaps, if an individual has a different take on life after that assault. In TharnType, you have two characters that are victims of rape. One takes the positive approach by engaging in sports but then is a stubborn and homophobic character while the other one, in the character of Tar, who is reclusive and evasive and thinks mostly of dark things in his arts, the effects of the traumas he has experienced. There is balance of characters in the series but some viewers have focused on Type and have tried to pinpoint the errors of the series but when I went through them, they're mostly irrational. Their root problem is on why the series uses the sexual assault trope. They don't even find the way to watch with scrutiny, pointed the climax and anti-climax, even watched the ending nor even commended the chemistry of the actors. In the most logical thing I can think of them, they're prejudiced.
Both suck for me. Two most overrated BL series these two years. That sexual harrassment shit is just another fantasy…
I really don't get these fans actually. It's getting hilarious here reading those comments only knowing that they just want the same shit over and over again.
Actually, their behaviour is even qualified borderline FETISHIZING and yet they roast on fujoshis for the fetishism. HYPOCRISY at its finest. No other words.
Both suck for me. Two most overrated BL series these two years. That sexual harrassment shit is just another fantasy…
As a gay man, I am done with the comments on how fujoshis are fetishizing two male actors doing intimate scenes. That's their kink. Accept it.
I also would like to see how two guys or even two girls express their love in the most intimate ways. Do I have a fetish for that? No. As long as I see the expression of love in their acting, I see no wrong in incorporating those scenes. I can skip those parts anyways and proceed with the plot.
We cannot always judge the fujoshis for their liking of seeing two males in love. They can always watch gay porn if they really have that kink just like when straight guys have the kink for watching lesbian sex.
As for the sexual harassment shit, I am up for watching the redemption arc in those series with that arc. Again, it's up to your preference. We always see murder in many mainstream films and yet have no complaint when it's incorporated in the plot.
The double standards in people really fascinate me. They want to see REVENGE in films not taking into mind the incorporation of murder scenes but in the series that incorporates the concept of FORGIVENESS, they just skip it and focus on the sexual harassment shit as " the trope" being used in the series and then complain more of it.
People aren't ok with murder, but people like horror movies. People aren't ok with natural disasters, but people…
Hey! I have witnessed your posts gushing over it from the start and you dropped it around somewhere at episode 5-6 because you didn't get the writing. Perhaps, it's something to do with the anti-climax that you didn't want and then you complained about the "rape" trope in which in the series, there has never been any of that between Tharn and Type. You may discuss the legal jargon of rape , I'm up for it.
Your hate against the series doesn't validate whatever comments you have as you always seek for the usual plot in BL series. Correct me but I always feel that you want to see another Sotus, that fantasy you want to be portrayed for gay relationships.
Well, buddy... not all gay relationships end up like how you want it to be in the series. I may have to break that delusional glass for you.
this serie has 8.5 rating while tarntype has 8,8. A series full of abuse both physically and mentally. I am at…
It seems you're trying to downgrade a work of art in which the characters truly experience character development. Don't compare TharnType to 2gether.
I started watching TharnType as a critic but ended up liking it because of the factors that contribute to its success. It has anticlimax that self-righteous critics and reviewers can't even accept because it's not the twist in the plot that they wanted in mind yet many accepted it because of its logical approach. And if you want to ask me of its logical approach then I can freely give you a lecture about it.
And don't ever compare an adult series over a PG-13 that has been attracting toxic fans in the BL community. That's my problem ever since. The self-righteous ones started appearing during TharnType's airing yet they forget that they're watching an adult series with adult content. And yes, they even skipped Love by Chance.
I actually consider the hate against TharnType being that of homophobia especially when they attacked the actor, Mew. Some BL fans can't accept when a BL actor comes out as LGBTQ. Again, the HYPOCRISY.
TharnType has warnings that clearly indicate the sensitivity of its contents but they're still complaining of this problematic trope yada, yada, yada. Talking about dumb shits that won't stop blabbing.
Go Watch Joker because people also have a problem with it on the way how it tries to humanize a villainous character when they clearly failed to see previous Batman films with back stories of the villains from The Cat Woman, The Riddler, the Penguin and even Poison Ivy. But then Joaquin Phoenix seems to be unbothered as he collected the Oscar trophy for his performance. The same self-righteous viewers have a problem when Lhong has been given an episode, which is an attempt to humanize its character.
Again, learn to know the difference of an art form in motion pictures with engaging plot, proper sequencing of storyline, the proper use of symbolisms, cinematography, redemption arc, climax and anti-climax, character development and even subtle gestures and expressions that contribute to the whole production.
Some of these TharnType critics are even skipping parts of the dialogues in scenes that's why they keep on complaining about Type's homophobia not being discussed well or his inner turmoil as a rape victim. And because of that they're missing many parts and dots that could have answered their confusions. Hence, their complaint is pointless.
I can't with all these viewers against TharnType just because of its controversial trope. You seem to prefer very boring plot lines like you always seek for Sotus clones when Sotus is not even a good benchmark because of its unrealistic approach to gay relationships. Meanwhile, TharnType seems to depict a part of the toxicity of gay relationships. Despite its toxicity, the couple managed to deal with those challenges, beginning from hate to love.
TharnType doesn't even attempt to be a representation of gay relationships despite the assumption of some viewers. These fans always seek for that series to be a representation of gay relationships. If that is the case, Western shows that feature LGBTQ characters should always portray gay relationships being too loving and too perfect to be role models for all kinds of relationships. But then, there's always that realism factor and many BL fans don't see that. They're always seeking for that fantasy. And when they didn't see it on TharnType, they jumped on another series hoping that their hope for the series will finally realize. LOL. And then they have seen the similar thing. '
People aren't ok with murder, but people like horror movies. People aren't ok with natural disasters, but people…
I agree. I feel like most of these fans are always looking for boring plot lines, being overused in many BL's. The fluffy scenes are okay if incorporated correctly but too much of it is like oopss..
And then this similar kind of fans is trying to make BL mainstream and yet they always prefer the same kind of shit for a plot line just because it's ethical, it has a safe trope or it's what most of the audience wanted. And yet those fans are consuming other films with tropes that are seemingly problematic but they give it a pass. I can't deal with these hypocritical asses. BL is an homoerotic genre and yet they scorn when there are more intimate scenes and consider them "pornish".
For days, I am trying to stay away from this forum because I feel like what I'm going to be reading would add…
I have managed to diminish it but the concerns from my friends about the series wouldn't stop me from lurking on Twitter about other people's reactions of the series. It seems that by reading those tweets, I have already completed the series though improperly. But honestly though, I feel like I was scammed. I have been rewatching the episodes trying to witness again and again the characters, their subtle actions and some symbolisms(which I've found devoid in this series). It just pains that they could have made this better. There are interplay of factors to its somewhat unusual demise that the director, the production team, the writers and even the actors still have hard time figuring out or. perhaps, their ego can't accept it.
Last Friday when this series came to an end, I poured my rage into a review, and avoided this page. I can't tell…
Similar sentiment. But another concern I have of this material is that the series might be misleading to the younger demographic who might have fallen really hard to the series but might have different takes when they wanted to pursue reading the novel.
I just read a tweet about 2gether's material as being derived from a novel with a problematic trope. My first reaction has been " here we go again with the self-righteous viewers'", but then realized that he'/she has a point. I actually wanted to defend the series like I would with TharnType with this kind of reaction or comment. But then suddenly, realization hit me that 2gether might receive a flak for presenting characters that are seemingly wholesome, yet their characters, especially Sarawat in the novel could even be regarded as problematic or villainous.
I have been trying to make viewers understand about the premise of TharnType even though I know of its seemingly problematic trope. I am aware of it. But then, this is an art form targeted to adult audience who can properly discern despite the contradictions of those who feel like most humans are in still incapable of making proper discernment despite being adults. At least, on TharnType's case, being rated both adult in the novel and in the series have consistency in character portrayals. Both characters are assholes and problematic in the novels and in the series but then they fall in love with each other beginning from an anticlimactic scene. And that I think shows that love really wins even from polarizing characters who can meet, hate along the way and yet fall in love in unexpected ways.
I am aware of the law of fee will so I feel like we don't have the right to always say right or wrong to individuals and their actions. I also believe that the laws of land shall prevail even though I feel like many of the laws are harsh, thus "dura lex sed lex". I even aired that out to my law professors. Anyways, I digress.
About the 2gether material being labeled to have a content rating of PG 13 but from an adult material is problematic for me. I now even share that view with the tweet and his/her comments I have read. When audience watch very wholesome characters and scenes in the series but when they seek for the novel materials, they might be surprised for its smut content and even that scene which can be qualified as an assault. That for me, I believe, is a problem that the producers and even the author should address. They even target the teen viewers on this series and when these viewers read the novels, there may be different impressions and even reactions. I hope they won't get into a conclusion that gay romance always involves non consensual sex( Domestic violence in gay relationships even exist and is a problem in the LGBTQ community.) As a gay man, I don't want to be presented in a darker light just because of a character that is projected to be wholesome in the series is actually manipulative in the novel.
I hoped and prayed that they should have been consistent with the novel material and then with the guidance of the original author should omit that sex scene in the novel or at least present it in a way that is sensitive and empathic to gay couples in love.
Even though readers or viewers may find a character very manipulative in the novel or series but some always await for a redemption arc for these characters who are protagonist in the storyline to witness and observe the character development. I actually hoped for that in Sarawat.
Reading this comment again, I feel like I am beginning to side with the self-righteous viewers. LOL.
This is not the case. I am still up for the art form, the abstract of it and even the controversy that may be attached to it. But when the art form is presented to the mainstream with filters and yet its storyline and characters are derived from a novel with adult contents, I feel like there's already a disconnect between the original material and the series. It's already separate in this case, which even other viewers have already cited. So then, how can the producers and GMMTV able to market the novel and its author considering the 'disconnect' in the materials and even in the characters?
This may be another case to exemplify the disconnect of the novel materials to an adapted material like in the case of Ursula Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea being adapted into animation by Studio Ghibli. The displeasure of Le Guin's has contributed to the rating of the animated movie being the worst among Studio Ghibili's productions. And I even adore Ghibli's works such as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.
Okay, I didn't wanna see Bright's reaction video of the last ep coz I knew I would only be getting excuses but…
For days, I am trying to stay away from this forum because I feel like what I'm going to be reading would add to the frustrations I have on the series. I actually wanted to continue watching this show after a week from its finale so I wouldn't be swayed by the hype in the comments section of YouTube. But I already stopped watching at episode 10 and I am working on dropping this series for good. I couldn't even write a review because I feel like when I finally decided to drop the show, it would be injustice to write a review post.
Anyways, I agree that what Bright remarked on a reaction video with Jennie was an attempt to do damage control on his character Sarawat. The clip just passed on my timeline when I scrolled around it and I got curious. So far, the way he tried to present himself to the audience who have concerns on his character in this series is even adding fuel to the fire. He attempted to present Sarawat on a better light but he also managed to demean the character of Tine, as being "self-centered", an assumption resulting from that remark. I think these actors need a very good publicist to guide them on how to present themselves properly, including the proper communication skills and tone to the audience and fans.
Man, fan service is part of their job in promoting the series. If you are saying that you're glad Bright and Win…
I understand your views about MewGulf. I also have my reservations about them before they become very popular. As a gay man, and I know you are too, Gulf is queer, bisexual. I know there's been an issue with his gf and he cleared that. I feel like the way he did it is more brave than other actors who have issues about their BL coupling and suddenly decided to be in a relationship with girls and only the fans would figure them out after obtaining evidences.
But I stand by my intuition that Gulf is bisexual or sexually fluid after carefully observing him. Gulf is becoming more feminine when he's with Mew. So far, he is the only rookie actor I know who kissed his on-screen partner during the acting workshop without any prompt from the acting coach or production team. He made out with Mew surprisingly and even to the surprise of their co-actors. And this kind of incident has been shared in interviews and Gulf just accepted it nonchalantly.
I don't know how you would take that though when he had many chances to clear the matter between him and Mew when the media asked him and Mew about their relationship that they both didn't even deny. And Gulf would be really scorn or hated if he was not sincere about this thing with Mew, as if he's been acting the part of the charade so effectively. That could even ruin his career. (He could take the lesson from the Art incident which I am aware that he fully knows based on the statements he relayed to Mew in fan meetings. If he's still with Mew and is happy with it, that means the other actor is not guilty or has repented of his wrongdoings. Would Gulf's family even allow his son to be with a man with a checkered past? It seems their mothers are even close friends.)
I really think it requires logic to really observe them as most Waanjais are convinced of their relationship. And you are aware of my views about fanservice that's why I don't ship any GMMTV BL couples as I feel that that what they have is just platonic contrary to what most hardcore shippers would want them to be presented in their fan-made videos or even what these actors would want to portray when they have fanmeetings and concerts.
Anyways, I trust my intuition about them and I support them. I am not here to convince people to stan and support them just because what I think of their relationship is real.
And as for toxicity, so far the Waanjai fandom preaches more about love though they have received hate from other BL fans(for competition) and antis of MewGulf. And that is something I find puzzling because I never encountered nor read comments of BL fans who are antis of other BL couples before TharnType or MewGulf(maybe I just skipped them?)
Even though some don't really like Sotus but they are civil when it comes to mentioning KristSingto. In this case, MewGulf are hated just because of being too intimate or doing fanservice?
And there are even new BL fans who are shading SaintZee and MaxTul because of their being intimate on-screen and off-screen.
So I think toxicity comes from those who stan BL couples who are convincing themselves that shipped couples don't do much fanservice that's why they prefer these couples(when they're even platonic in the first place) but are shading other BL couples when the fans of these couples feel realness in them.
Waanjais are mostly chill as they focus more on MewGulf and are even more generous in their efforts to support the tandem. And so far, I see the actions of Mew and Gulf to be sincere as they also help people by doing merits together. What they received from their fans and sponsors, they pay them forward to other people.
OKAY BUT WAS ANYONE EVER GOING TO TELL ME FONG WAS IN LOVE WITH TINE OR DID I HAVE TO USE THAT HELLISH BLUE BIRD…
Perhaps, that explains Fong's desire to kick Wat's face in one episode when Tine and Sarawat's friends met in the bar and got drunk. I thought Fong was heart-broken because his girlfriend cheated on him but maybe there was another intention why his friends called Tine to come to that bar.
And then when they went home after getting drunk and Tine's friends were being carried to Tine's room, Fong, perhaps, mistakenly, kicked Tine's face. He probably thought it was Sarawat's.
And then he also tried to distract Tine and Wat's moment by attempting to urinate in the balcony. Hmmm....
Only dropped to 8.6 and two of my top 5 BL Red Balloon and Right Or Wrong only got 8.2 and 8.5…
Right or Wrong continues to be my most favorite BL from Taiwan. Whenever I feel like I have seen crappy Thai BL's, I want to go back to the Taiwan BL's which have more varieties in storytelling features. I want to watch more controversial subjects in a BL than the mundane ones in most of Thai BL's.
That's why in Thai BL, I only find Together With Me and TharnType to be fitting to my standards despite their controversial subjects scorn by self-righteous viewers. I am here to seek for entertainment and quality productions, not to apply political correctness that would have ruined my viewer experience.
Anyways, I can infer that Taiwan BL's have more integrity than most Thai BL's. However, I have avoided watching MODC because of reading negative reviews but I might watch it one of these days.
And I actually want Red Balloon to have a sequel because I am not satisfied of its ending.
Same! I actually didn’t mind the ending (probably because I’ve watched quite a few dramas with a bad ending…
Again, putting words on my mouth, aren't you still? LMAO
I am all for good writing and proper sensual scenes. I can accept TharnType because of its controversial subject but WhyRU is not really stellar. I don't know why you even mentioned WhyRU when I don't really think highly of the series' plot.
So far, The Untamed still holds that spot for me when it comes to the best series with plot originally from a BL content.
I am very critical of BL series and it's rare for me to really appreciate the series that I really like. So far, Gaya Sa Pelikula is the Best for me.
Hmmm....
