That’s true. I’m glad there was closure, tragic, but realistic. A story that also leaves a deep impression because it wasn’t a happily ever after (which doesn’t fit the tone of the drama).

Among the three couples, FJM and HS had the most tragic ending imo. ZL and ZY are together and ride off to the sunset. DX and TL tragically die, but are together. DX finds comfort knowing his child and the country will be looked after, and he can rest from the tiring life of an emperor that he always disliked. While, FJM and HS had to bear the weight of responsibilities and sacrifice their happiness for the country. They are a team but can never be a normal couple. Sometimes the ones left behind have it hardest, but ofc, this job can only be done by strong individuals like themselves. It’s still heartbreaking though, the only reason my heart aches after finishing the show is their ending.

I know right? I loved the teenage FJM and DX. I can only imagine what it would have been like if teenage FJM met teenage HS. They would bicker until they fall in love! Both are stubborn, strong willed and carefree. HS’s story on what she wished would have happened if they had met earlier in an alternate universe made it all the more heartbreaking. A beautiful dream. Cannot get over that scene.

Loved their chemistry. His character is more restrained but you can see the love through his microexpressions which were done well (not all actors can accomplish this). The bts really highlights the good chemistry between the actors, glad they worked well together.

Lol everything related to ZY was just brushed through after he left Tianqi. I feel like they did his character dirty. There was potential there, and they should’ve used it.

Yes! I totally forgot! They definitely cut some scenes because the end of the previous ep and beginning of the next did not connect well in the last few eps. A lot of the time, I find that they leave in irrelevant scenes and cut out the important ones

Omgosh I miss ZY, rather watch him than Tilan tearing up all the time

She is kind and beautiful, but her character was bland. I wish she had more of a role in the plot than being DX’s healer considering she is one of the main leads - even ZL had more of a job than her.

Didn’t watch the last two eps from beginning to end and I already have serious drama withdrawals. Not sure how I’ll be able to focus on working this week. Wish the finale was on saturday so I could mope on sun. Any drama recs to kill this feeling??? Should I start Luoyang?

If they really had a child, I wish they wouldn’t have brushed over that fact even if it is implied. Lol although, continuing the Fang bloodline would be unnecessary with this ending

There are bts on youtube of DX’s last scene and FJM/HS’s last scene. They completely immersed themselves in the roles and you can see the filming crew were touched as well.

I watched William Chan's interview where he talks about going to exercise everyday even when they were filming. He said it helped to cheer him up because he was immersed in his role, and sometimes felt sad for his character. I mean, we already feel like this, so cannot imagine how the actors felt portraying the characters! FJM becoming baixi twice is probably more tragic than him dying as DX's baixi in the book LOL. But perhaps so long as he is alive, the universe will grant him freedom in the end once the child is grown up?

What are your thoughts about FJM and HS having their own child - based on the other comments saying that HS was pregnant? Do you think that was the case? Especially when Lang Huan was surprised after touching HS's hand

So, it was not an ending we had hoped for but I’m sure deep down we all knew that there would have to be sacrifices one way or another. The characters’ priority has always been to bring peace and prosperity to the people. As FJM said to ZY years ago, it is not the life he wanted but it’s the one he chose with no regrets. Only with peace, can each of them think about their own happiness. Although it was heartbreaking that DX and TL died, it was expected. In a way I’m sure DX is comforted knowing that his child will be protected by two of the most talented people, and that he can finally leave with the one he loves. I think the ones who have it hardest are the ones left behind to carry on - FJM, HS and DX’s son. I’d like to think that so long as they’re alive, they could retire together when DX’s son is older. I mean anything is possible right?

Okay I'm confused, did they really have a kid together? I know when Lang Huan touched HS's hand, she was surprised....and I see comments about HS really having a kid. LOL

My sentiments exactly. It may not have been an ending that everyone had hoped for, but I'm glad that there was some closure. Like FJM said to ZY - it is not the life they want, but it's the life they chose without regrets. At the heart of it all, the people and country come first. Only when there is peace, can they have the opportunity to focus on their personal lives. From day 1, FJM knew that HS and ZY are destined to do great things. Perhaps it was always their fate, from the day they followed their shifu.

I think DX had comfort knowing he could be with his love during his last breath, he would not want to be left alone again. The ones left behind are the ones who have it hardest as they have to continue carrying the torch - FJM, HS and DX's son. But of course, FJM and HS have always been the ones with the strongest will. I also like to think that when DX's son grows up and the kingdom is stable, perhaps that will be the day the main OTP can retire and focus on themselves. So long as they are alive, possibilities are endless. They've already achieved the impossible once, they can do it again.
