My final thoughts after finishing this series: It has been a minute since I've watched a TVB series, and gotta say I was intrigued for a majority of the drama. They did a good job with the action, suspense and plot. However, the ending was very underwhelming and didn't make much sense. The build up fell flat. I was quite disappointed with how they decided to end it because there was potential to wrap it up nicely. 27-28/30 episodes were good, but I wished they had given the ending some thought. If they had stuck with one big fight/finale with all the antagonists rather than separate fights and cut out some fillers, the ending would have been more cohesive and less rushed/choppy.

Haven't watched Li Yi Feng in a while. Hope it's good. Kinda curious about the chemistry, a bit skeptical but hope for the best!

Are the ratings really that bad? How come I saw an update about it achieving 50mil views?

I find her a bit shady, is she hiding something? All the other characters seem wary of her

Good point. Hard to please everyone though lol we will just have to see what happens if season 2 is confirmed. Perhaps that’s why he marries all of them in the novel cuhs they’re all great in their own way (or so I hear). I still ship JN and XFN lol, I’m a sucker for their childish/quirky bond. I assume JN should have more character development if is season 2. She has always been mature but never showed that depth because she and XFN haven’t officially made that step (kinda dance around each other cuhs of pride).

Agreed! Not saying there aren’t good actors out there but if they decide to start with one, then it should be consistent. Honestly wish they filmed all seasons together ahha. She is still a young actress, with room to improve but I hope she isn’t bothered by the negative comments about her looks. You can provide constructive criticism on acting but why comment on whether she is pretty or not smh

Still love Jiang Ni for XFN though, they’re like an old married couple with their quirky ways of showing affection. Jiang Ni doesn’t know how to fight but she is pretty smart and mature at times, sometimes moreso than XFN

Love qing niao, so pretty! Lol I’d pair her up as a FL with Ning e mei lmfao. Zhang tian ai and Zhang ruo yun played an otp in a modern series, so maybe that’s why the chemistry was there despite very few scenes on her end

Lol maybe I should watch JOL, seems like he is fond of these types of genres that need multiple seasons. Great actor, I cannot imagine anyone else play XFN. Good at playing intelligent characters (loved him in Medical Examiner)

Praying she comes back as Jiang Ni if they have a second season. I heard rumours that they might replace her with another actress which would really ruin the dynamic that has been established

Haha! Ofc, and I appreciate the fact that it doesn't revolve around romance. Although I will say it would be sad/weird to see him marry all of them like in the novel LOL. As you said, I think there's enough evidence to show that he is only set on one woman.

Does XFN marry all the girls in the novel? I hope they change that in the drama if there are sequels because although I love all of them, I only wanna see Jiang Ni and him married. hahaha

I love Qing Niao, she is pretty, talented and a boss lady! Besides the older generation of characters, I think the supporting characters that really stood out to me were Qing Niao and Ning e Mei

Will it involve the main cast? I honestly cannot imagine a change in the main cast, it would totally alter the dynamic of the characters. I wish they had just filmed the entire series in one go to save time in reuniting the same actors.

I honestly don't get the criticisms about Teresa Li who plays Jiang Ni. Many say she is not pretty enough to be the FL, but I find her naturally pretty and cute. Her refreshing aura reminds me a lot of Ariel Lin back in the day, the actress doesn't mind laughing or crying naturally (while some actors focus on crying ''beautifully''). She isn't going to be happy go lucky especially after losing her country and shouldering the responsibilities. I find her character very wise and mature at times, sometimes even more than XFN. The actors chemistry is also pretty cute, I like the subtlety in the love line. She is the one person who XFN can be completely himself, even at his most vulnerable. Like the eldest sister said, Jiang Ni was the one who accompanied him from the beginning on his journey, and will be the one who will be by his side in the future.

I REALLY hope that they keep the main cast for season 2
