I know they're going for a pure and noble soul who will become the glue that heals everyone with Phatsa's character but he is coming off annoyingly preachy in these circumstances. He's just been plopped into this tense family dynamic, literally overnight. He is no position to be giving anyone moral lectures. I want Naphit to turn around and ask Phatsa who is he again? Stfu and sit down.

I'm going to assume that Daddy is going to cause problems with Nakin and Ongsa, trying to chase down this elusive True Omega.

We got a repeat of his scene last week, word for word, just in a fancy office this time 😂

Hmmm, the plot is thickening .... Maybe you dont have terrible luck, Great, maybe someone is sabotaging you. We havent gotten any background on Great, and yet he is a pro fighter, he seems to a single heir to a wealthy grandmother. Is there something, or someone, who is karmically tied to Great's luck. And I dont mean his future husband 😂

I think because a lot of fandom culture relies on surface level comfort, so when a show presents raw complicated scenarios, they might be trying to sanitize it to regain safety.

For me, it completely comes down to narrative intent. Sometimes horror was exactly what the writer wanted and I dont agree with that.

E.g The pool scene in Payback. There was zero creative reason for that whole sequence other than to distress the viewer. That's where I would agree with those people. It didnt need to be there. It's not depth, it was indulgence. And I am most certainly part of the group being told to watch disney over there 🥲 and it pisses me off 😂 I just have to walk away.

But when I compare that to Big Jane attempting to force himself on Little Jane here. I obviously don't condone it, but I can still emotionally connect to his chaotic feeling. His raw desire, his need for control, to own LJ, his desperation to be understood again, and any other insecurities or issues we haven't dealt with yet.

And most crucially, he stops when he realizes Little Jane isn't reacting. It was the same in the Art gallery. I'm thinking is he so used to reading people physically, from his pyschology degree, that words mean nothing to him now? Because people lie and decieve all the time.

It was only when those physical cues remind him that his intention was never to harm LJ, he stops. He knows he’s in the wrong and he'll only further push LJ away.

He’s incredibly flawed, but he is still in motion, while Little Jane is trapped between his pride and his own feelings.

It's fantastic character study for me 😂

It's just keeping footing in complicated emotional terriority that would otherwise be difficult to sit with. Even if very cartoon scenarios start happening later 😅

Good point. I would be included in that group 😅 For sensitive material, I like to give people grace because usually it's because they themselves have been disturbed, or are just not in a place to understand. Everyone's boundary is in a different place.

For me, it works as long as the story maintains its internal logic. Predictability and understanding give me a sense of safety and control. The second a writer loses sense and starts pushing for drama and reactions, it's not a controlled narrative anymore, and biology takes over.

It’s a delicate line. Morbidly fascinating when you start to learn and realise why you react the way that you do.

Fascinating psychological breakdowns in here 😍 I just assumed there is background we just haven't got to yet lol

It really proves that obsessive leads are only fun because there’s a TV screen between us. Humans, by nature, are thrill seekers. We love feeling the danger without actual living it. We can enjoy the fictional high and then put it down.

That said, it only works as long as the show stays within our emotional boundaries, like with what PB just recently did to me. There's this tightwire in the psyche, between 'this is just a feeling, It's not real' and 'I am actually witnessing this'.

The second a writer stops making sense, you risk crossing over the line and triggering an anxiety response.

So far, this show is now my no. 1, and as long as I can understand Big Jane, it can stay at No. 1

It's hard to respect or enjoy a show once it hijacks your peace, and I fully respect anyone dropping out if they are uncomfortable. I would implore you to do so.

It's taken a full 24 hours for my cortisol levels to finally settle into functioning human again. I have a whole essay rolling around my brain about gratuitous violence and trauma porn that was weaponised here, but I don't care anymore.

Instead, I want my last words to be 🫡

My official headcanon is that Jay vanished in a cloud of his own sleep farts. That's why there wasnt even a post-it note on the fridge with 'be back soon babe'. He didnt get the chance. He just went to sleep and poof 💨
Case closed 😂

I made a joke earlier about my anxiety and not being able to enjoy the home making ..... I take that back. I am humbled.

What a beautiful, old, tucked away in the wilderness, white picket fenced house, with all it's rustic charm and vintage furniture, and newly planted rose tree, and two soulmates cooking together for the first time, and making coffee, and lots of love.
Ahhh...It's nice. How lovely ☕️

Ok....there's a very common writing technique in the 'Hero's Journey' style of narrative where the hero gets broken. It's the 'darkest before the dawn' moment. People start dying, the villain gets the upper hand, plans fall apart etc We're brought to a hopeless place right before the tides turn, which is usually through an act of courage, sacrifice, or an unexpected twist that leads to victory.

Pick almost any book, film, or series. Most writers use it because people love seeing the underdog win. I know I do. It makes the victory feel earned. We watched them struggle, suffer, and lose, but still win against all odds. It’s a winning classic move.

I’m going to assume that’s what the writers were trying to achieve here, but it isn't working.

Personally, this episode was an assault on my nervous system. Those scenes were not supposed to be there. I wasnt expecting them. They don't even exist in the original manhwa.

There were supposed to be a few wins for Sun through his own wit while Jay schemed in the background. Sunny and his sponsor were supposed to get more and more desperate, gradually leading to the climax of episode 9. It was supposed to mimic an emotional boxing match. Instead, this felt like a group of gangsters jumping out of a van and leaving us beaten to a pulp in an alleyway.

That's genuinely how I feel. I feel like I need to cry, and that’s a bad sign, because that’s usually when I rage quit a show. You’ve traumatized the life out of your audience. The misery has to match the eventual victory, and with the direction this episode took, I don't know how they can possibly break even now.

It’s really sad, because I’ve been defending the pacing all this time.

I clearly have to go eat my hat now.

The belt part was definitely his first time because he looked extremely traumatised. In the manhwa he was annoying…
The belt for each and every one of those boys is a metaphor.
Even if he didn't physically hold a belt, enabling and profiting off that kind of violence makes him fully responsible and just as evil

A couple of thoughts on Episode 9

1. Sunny isn't just an idiot - he's calculating
Earlier in the series, I mentioned that after reading the manhwa, Sunny didn't strike me as just a 'ditzy, opportunist narcissist.' It definately seemed that way in the manwha, but all we know of him, was simply through Sun/Yoohan. He wasnt very fleshed out.
I’m so glad Sammon thought the same. Yeaah, vindication! 😂

Pointing out a little boy to a man with a knife, and knowingly handing boys over to wealthy benefactors to be abused, isn't the behavior of a clueless fool. That is a conscious decision to inflict horrific harm on another for personal gain. He effectively pulled the belt on every single one of those boys himself. Even if we skipped a few details (which might just be re-edited for next week), I truly hope Sammon doesn't shy away from giving him the end he deserves, because it was a little vague. The character was very 2 dimensional. Not here he's not. We see. What goes around comes back, three-fold.

2. 'Yer Man' needs a much heavier punishment here.

His ending in the manhwa works as a piece of comedy because it's humiliating, but that won't cut it here for me. When you see these actions portrayed by real actors with real faces, it shifts from this cartoonish absurdity to someone's reality. A comedic, fast paced defeat just isn't slow or painful enough for the weight of what he's done.

It really highlights the difference between reading a comic, and watching an adaptation. Webtoons can rely on stylized art and slapstick scenarios, but live action forces you to sit with a very sick and evil side of humanity, that keeps me awake at night.

Bottom line - I don't want poetic justice for either of them, after this episode. And I've been expecting it because that's what happens. But not anymore.
I want complete, methodical ruin.

Sigh ..... I actually have a headache....I need a cup of tea, to cuddle my dog .....

I'm sure this is a happy ending after reading about the real event, but they are going to play this chemistry like a devil's violin until then 😂

Tin seems, almost emotionless, unless it's about Phob. Like he's been so numb for the last 11 years that he just robots his way through all his interactions. I was holding my breath when he lied to his father's face. Not one muscle flinch did he give away. He was so calm while both, are slowly simmering in this pot of death 😂

Phob's about to get professionally sniped out of the universe, and Tin will never see the light of day again. I know this Playing House is cute but I couldnt enjoy it, my anxiety 😵‍💫
I was waiting for Dad to pop up in an ep 2 throw back 😂

Also, none of those revolution soldiers should be doing anything that loosens their senses. What a way to get discovered?? !! 🫪 Now theyre going to get tortured ...
