Two episodes in, and while this is a very typical period idol production (and not a fan of the dubbing), I think I'll stick with it. The story is reasonably engaging and has my favorite trope - get married first and fall in love later.
Deng Wei made an impression on me with his role as Tushan Jing. Although the character wasn't featured very well in the drama, I am looking forward to seeing more of him in the future.
It may be for different reasons that I am not ok after watching this second season, but I share your sentiment. This was not what I was hoping to watch after that glorious first season.

Yeah, such a shame. The whole cast really embodied their characters. But this second season is just a bit weird. It's not completely a disaster, but like you said, underwhelming.

The story ends where it started essentially - Qingshui Town, a place that will always have a special place in my heart. It was in those first several episodes that I fell in love with this story - so different from so many other dramas I had seen. There I met our cast of interesting characters and decided to embark on this long, dark but beautiful tale of love, friendship, betrayal, loyalty and so much more.
The final set of episodes have been the hardest for me to unpack, and I suppose the entire second season has been uneven for me in every possible way when reviewing a visual storytelling medium. From the development of characters, the editing, the special effects or the writing - it never achieves the elegant beauty or balance of charm and danger of the first season.
Going to take a break and come up with some sort of review that isn't too powered by current emotions.

Aww, I know. I feel bad for the cast. Everyone was so well-cast, and I'm sad that this last part of the story was a mess. Take some time to yourself/family and have the next drama lined up haha. Fortunately, I think all the cast have new dramas coming up so that will help.

In order for that scene between Xinyue and CX to work or even all of that change to work, they needed some more scenes between Xinyue and CX. Or even some more build up in the harem or something. I don't know, maybe it's unsalvageable and shouldn't have been changed to begin with - yeah, that's what I'm going with.
CX just turns back to meek CX from S1....all the build up from S1 and beginning of S2 just poof gone. I haven't finished watching yet. You know, for that to work (him learning his lesson and really coming to terms with who XY wants to be with), CX would need a confrontation/scene with Jing to make it more satisfying. And I bet that didn't happen based on what I'm reading with the comments and in the message threads.
