There's something about this series that is just so appealing! Sure, it's kind of fluffy, unrealistic with over-the-top characterization... but it's very rom-com and adorable!
I feel kind of torn, as to what I really think about this series. Definitely, it's one of the best acted BL series I've seen (Mew and Gulf, of course, but Mild is great in his role, too). Mew and Gulf are so believable as a couple, the romantic scenes are meltworthy and the sex scenes are steamy.
My only complaint is that I find it impossible to believe that Type who, as a child, was so traumatically raped, to the point where he understandably spent years loathing gays, suddenly begs his hated gay roommate to have sex with him (seriously?), just to "get it over with" once and for all (that's kind of the weirdest thing I've ever heard). And, if I were Tharn, I would have been like "Excuse me... go find yourself a hustler, dude!"
I feel like the whole seriousness of the child rape thing (which really is horrible) was suddenly just swept under the rug and forgotten... which is insensitive to the people who have actually been scarred from it. For me, the series would have been so much better -- and believable -- if Type had not suffered a childhood rape, but was just always bigoted against gays, and then found himself falling for Tharn. That in itself would have been more than enough drama.
Anyway... we're only halfway through and the Tharn/Type relationship has been established, the girlfriend has come and gone... so I wonder where the story is going to lead for the second half of the series. Maybe there will be more focus on Tum/Tar?
LazySubber mentioned the people behind the series may upload it to a platform for international viewers so we'll…
Exactly. I mean it's nice that some subbers do it as a labor of love, but the companies should hire a subber, pay them decently and have a specific date set as to when the subs will come out. From what I've seen, there are more international fans than domestic ones, so it can only help the companies and the actors. Everybody wins.
honestly, I'm not liking this one as much. It gives me STAY AWAY FROM ME vibes...plus I cant seem to find anything…
There are 8 eps so far. I've found them (with English subs) on the gcinee website, but nowhere else. (There were some on YouTube for awhile, but they look to have been taken down.)
I DO NOT understand the boring comments. This drama is AWESOME and is going down as one of my favorites. But nothing…
Yes, I agree! Honestly, I think it's my second favorite series for 2019 (at least so far), just after He's Coming To Me. But I guess opinions differ... I really disliked Theory of Love, while others thought it was the greatest thing since God landed... lol!
As a gay person myself, my relationships have been more similar to TharnType, well without one of us being a homophobe…
I can definitely relate to what you're saying. It just seems like DBK started with a little trouble in paradise for Pete/Kao, so I assume that by the end we'll probably get the romance we've been hoping for. Fingers crossed!
Just chiming in to say I'm enjoying the show. It's true that some of the characters are over the top but, overall, it's a pleasant enough way to pass the time.
I must be in the minority, but I'm really liking this series! For me, it's far more believable than what I've seen in just about any BL series, including some that are going on right now. I can identify with being in a gay relationship, closeted from parents, hiding it from everyone, being jealous of another guy interfering, just getting started having sex when mom decides to knock at your bedroom door, trying to put on your clothes in a matter of seconds, etc. This is the stuff that really happens to a lot of young gay couples... it's pretty much like a movie of my own history!
As far as the story, I suppose it could be more interesting, but I don't have a problem with any part of the plot. I'm loving it.
So... one more episode left! I'm hoping for some real drama... we need for Nana to come clean about ordering Jump to stay away from Home. (I guess we're supposed to feel sorry for Nana, but she's pretty much acted like a bitch to everybody for the whole series.) It seems everyone is shipping Por/Yong... but I guess I'm in the minority for wishing Por had ended up with Talay (Talay was just so nice and sweet!). I'm not a big fan of the Yong character. Oh well.
Last rant: Thengthai is such a cute girl, and looks so pretty with her hair up or in braids. But if you're going to let it fly free... girl, get a stylist! (Lol.)
TGIF isn't the most polished show by a long way. (That long dance scene in Ep. 11 was lame... why did all the couples look like they were forced at gunpoint by their grandparents to dance the box step?) But I have a soft spot for it, I like the sweetness and innocence. Even if it's not quite realistic, it's so nice to see that they are portraying gay crushes and couples as a natural and normal thing (because it is). Stories like this can only help for gay people to feel good about themselves and gain acceptance by the general public.
