This show is not ruining the history franchise. It is in my opinion the best bl drama that exists. It is more…
As a gay male, I would have preferred a happy ending (the world needs to see that gays can live normal, happy lives), but it's not the sad ending that upset me. It's that the ending was just badly written. The doppelganger thing was especially ridiculous, and I especially hate that HT's parents were pushing a woman onto him. It was never clearly stated if HT was gay or bisexual, but it seemed the writer was going with "he was only gay for Xi Gu," which infuriates me. Not only is it unrealistic, but also extremely insulting to LGBTQ people.
You're so right. But I think the parents were trying to help HT push through his loss by encouraging him with…
I agree with that. But why push a girl on him? The parents knew very well that he was deeply in love with Xi Gu. It's like they thought "okay good, now he can be straight again." Really selfish and insensitive.
Off topic, but I seriously get gay vibes from the father, lol!
I watched Ep. 19 earlier in the day (and was wrecked) and then Ep. 20 tonight. Now that I've had a chance for it to sink in, here are my thoughts:
Like most viewers, I was gutted that Xi Gu was killed. And, as a gay male, I was hoping for a happy ending (not because I need it myself, but because gay people already go through so much turmoil, it's nice when the world can see that gay relationships are just as fulfilling as straight ones). But I think I'm ready for my assessment of this last episode.
Pros: 1) Wayne's incredible acting. Just WOW. 2) Xi Gang and Sun Bo's happy relationship. 3) Sun Bo's transformation into a really mature adult. 4) The talk between Hao Ting and his high school girlfriend (I forgot her name). 5) Despite Hao Ting's devastation and pain over Xi Gu, he still was able to get through university and make plans for his future. (I didn't get any "suicidal" vibes from HT.)
Cons: 1) The doppelganger thing was just... really weird and, frankly, dumb. 2) HT's parents pushing "Phoebe" on him. Seriously? 3) I wasn't crazy about the pacing of the episode, especially because we had to guess so much of what was going on for the first half of it. 4) I'm not sure if this is what the writers/producers were going for, but I REALLY hope that it wasn't the overused, contrived and unrealistic "I'm not really gay, I'm just gay for you" thing. If that's they were trying to portray, then shame on them.
Until today, this was my favorite BL of 2019, I was ready to rate it a 10. I'm lowering my rating to 8, not because it was a sad outcome, but because this last episode was just too damn weird for me.
A depressed person does not have to act depressed all the time. Often they put a happy face to the world. In this…
I agree that the directing could be the problem. (In fact, directing seems to be an issue in most Thai BLs I've seen, along with stories that are just not very well written to begin with.) Still, I'm liking DBK as well as I've liked just about any Thai BL. :)
I believe Type realised there was something strange about Lhong when Tharn confessed that he and Type are in a…
Yes, finally someone said it! When Tharn told Lhong he was together with Type, Lhong gets a look a shock on his face and drops a glass on the floor. HELLO??? I think a five year old could have figured out that Lhong is obsessed over Tharn, lol.
Wow, this series has just gone wayyyyy up in my estimation, over the past two episodes. This whole plot twist with Tar/Lhong/Tharn/Type is pretty cool!
Happy to see this, because I was ready to give up on this series altogether. The story started out so convoluted and well... just bad. But the breakup scene between Tharn/Type was so well done, really heartbreaking. Kudos to the whole cast!
Ok so I know I'm late to this and I have only watched bits and pieces but I don't see what people are talking…
Not sure how much you've seen, but M started out as an a-hole but then quickly redeemed himself. He loves Pun and was a good friend to him when Pun was crying over Sib (who has flirted with Pun but mostly sleeping with his own girlfriend). M and Pun ended up sleeping together and M thinks it's serious, but Pun sleeps with Sib the moment he has the opportunity, forgetting all about M.
I know 40 million with the 2 remaining episodes is possible so how are we gonna hit 50 million views to get the…
I always watch on the official links. But do we know for a fact that a certain amount of views will get us a Season 2? Has that been announced, or is it just speculation?
This is tied for my second favorite BL of 2019 (behind MODC, and tied with He's Coming to Me). I'm always waiting to see what will happen next!
The story makes perfect sense to me. Of course, I'm mostly on Pete's side, but I see Kao as being in a depression over his love for Pete, trying to help his mom, and his reluctance to come out to his mother and to the world. (Non in the picture isn't helping things, lol.)
Sure, it's easy to say that if Kao just came out of the closet, everything would be great. But it's different for everyone. Straight people don't have to "come out." For most gay people, there's a lifetime of feeling different and unaccepted by society. Most parents are not like Pete's dad (who is a great role model, by the way). Even in this last episode, the friend of Kao's mom was putting pressure on Kao to find a girlfriend, get married and have children. That can be a huge pressure on a young gay man, especially when he's the only boy in the family... personally, it was that way for me, too. I felt I was letting down my parents by not being straight, getting married and carrying on the family name. I'm glad they are addressing this very real issue.
And, unlike most Thai BLs (and BLs in general), DBK does not have a lot of ridiculous or unexplained plotholes.
My guess is that all the sh!t will hit the fan in the final two episodes. Non will be exposed, Kao will be forced out of the closet, his mom will accept it (as she has probably guessed it, anyway), Pete and Kao will make up, Sun and Mork will declare their love for one another and all will end well.
A lot of people are criticizing New's acting as monotone, but I see it as portraying someone in depression perfectly. Many depressed people speak in a monotone and are not all that exuberant in their behavior.
I have the same feeling and I hope it doesn't go where I think...which is the dad firing his mom and then that…
I have a feeling you've described exactly what's going to happen here. (Except I would guess Kao's mom has known about the relationship with Pete for a long time now.) We've got three more episodes to find out!
Pete's Father saves the whole show... and he's only in like 2 episodes. Ha ha but on a serious note like Pincolino…
I love Pete's father, too. What a great role model!
I don't feel that they're necessarily making it seem like Pete is the issue... I think they're just putting the story out there and letting viewers come to their own conclusions. I've seen other discussion boards where viewers are more upset with Kao.
For me, I don't feel DBK sucks at all, I quite like it and see it as a very real depiction of what young gay couples go through. (And I know I'll get nailed for this... but I feel that without Mew and Gulf, TT would really suck, it's just such a ridiculous story and Type is such a weird ass character. Can't for the life of me figure out why Tharn would give two craps about him. Mew and Gulf are keeping me tuned in, though!)
