Look, I understand the writing has issues and this show isn’t a masterpiece but a 7.4 rating? Really?? That’s an abysmal rating for a bl and I cannot comprehend this show having such a bottom of the barrel rating…why? It’s just my opinion but I don’t think this show is any worse than your average bl shows, in fact it is somewhat unique in that it tried giving its characters more unique issues to deal with and, sure, it could’ve been done better but I think this could be said about a lot if not most BLs. Why is this bl in particular such a black sheep in comparison? I really don’t understand it. Especially comparing it to other BLs that have an average on 8.5 stars and more I really don’t think it’s any worse than those shows. I’m just confused man..
yes i saw the production team/director /actor (i Don't remember who) saying James is half nour...if you scroll…
I’m wondering if James was even aware of the fact that he is a half-nour? Thats something I didn’t really understand bc technically speaking he should be aware of it (or at least it should’ve crossed his mind) based on the fact that Chita was killing nours (which wasn’t a secret) but somehow the show didn’t address this at all.
I just finished watching and I was wondering why Chita killed James dad. but when James was almost dead he saw…
They definitely could’ve elaborated on several things in the show bc some of them were really wish-washy. James probably was the reincarnation of Ken’s lover but that too had very little emotional impact if any 😬 The weird way they shot Ken’s tears made me think the same and I honestly don’t know. Could be anything at this point, even magic tears lol
Considering that Chita was on a Nour-killing spree and apparently killed James’ dad, does that mean James’ father was a Nour? And wouldn’t that mean that James is a half-nour? Is that why he can see souls and such? I’m wondering bc i don’t remember there ever being a scene where James was actively confronted with the fact that his dad was a Nour and that he is a half-nour by definition. Wouldn’t that elicit some strong emotions from him considering that James wasn’t even aware of the existence of Nour before starting the investigation. I’m surprised the show completely glazed over it.
It’s a nice story on paper but I was missing a lot of emotional depth especially with the main pairing. It also didn’t help that I found James unlikable for the most part. I enjoyed the doc/Chita situation more but here too I thought the whole thing could’ve easily had more emotional depth/build-up.
Such a disappointment. And by all means, on paper this should’ve been a decent story, it had some interesting twists and turns that could and should’ve been much more impactful with better writing and directing but they were so bland and uninspiring it’s almost achievement in itself . Also, what happened to the budget? The show felt like it had only 50 bucks in its piggy bank. GMMtv usually gives their shows decent budgets but this one felt so so cheap…
I really liked this season but I also think that it should’ve been a normal sequel without all these unnecessary jumps between past and future. It just made everything more confusing and didn’t add anything to the story. The sons weren’t necessary at all and the second BaabinBua break-up was just mind bogggling. Why?? It was so random and awkward and just didn’t feel right, it was even more awkward bc they decided to suddenly patch them up ten min before the end, randomly with no explanation, just to give them a happy end? They really shouldn’t have included the second break up at all. A normal sequel in the present (in real time) would have been perfect instead.
Glad to see you again and glad to see that we are still on the same page! I'm going to drop this drama as well.…
Hi! Glad to see you too! I dropped it after the first episode bc I really can’t handle characters like LJ and the preview for the second episode didn’t make it better lol If there were supernatural elements in the show I’d have probably given it another go but alas. They really needed those supernatural elements though, to balance out the mediocrity and LJ’s lack of likability
I mean, it’s kinda funny if you don’t take it seriously. I decided to watch it bc it’s based in a Chinese novel and so far Cbls have rarely disappointed me with their toxic stories but this show is just sooo off in so man my ways. I usually avoid lakorns bc of their soapy nature and for some reason I didn’t expect this show to be a lakorn but it def is. The one-dimensional stereotype villains, the insane melodrama, the over-the-top acting etc. The idea is similar to the one in To My Shore but the execution couldn’t be worse (idk, could it?). I just finished ep 4 so I still have 6 to go, we’ll see how I’ll feel at the end but probably the same. I do like that Peat and Fort were allowed to act out a different relationship dynamic than they are used to for once. I do feel that the acting is very strange though …someone wrote in their review that their expressions are so stiff like they have too much Botox in it and I can’t stop thinking about it. It really feels that way…even when they’re actively trying to emote their expressions have this weird stiff quality to them… But omg I’m so happy to see Cooper again (even if only as a cameo)! I’ve missed him so much!
That's such a common and frustrating problem. They make all these stories about obsession, but the one being obsessed…
I recently finished To My Shore as well as Revenged Love and totally agree! Both characters had so much personality and were actually worthy of pursuit. I especially loved Revenged Love and WeiWei is probably one of my favorite characters in BLs. He’s just so fun and memorable all around. I loved that You Shuoang wasn’t a wet blanket and actually had principles and a spine. I feel like a lot of characters lack those.
I watched Word of Honor till around the middle, I stopped not bc I disliked it but stuff happened and then I forgot where I paused and didn’t pick it up. I did read the novel though and I liked it a lot!
Wei Wuxien man, I love him so much! I never watched the show but I was obsessed with the novel at some point. He’s just such a lovable, fun and smart character! He has so much personality I was obsessed with him myself lol.
Never seen ABO Desire as I’m a bit uncomfortable when it comes to Omegaverse. That’s right! I forgot about Kinnporsche! I love Porsche so much! He’s such a fun, layered and very human character. He’s definitely a stand out among all the other characters to me personally.
I’ve never seen Killer and Healer but I loved Devil Judge. They had such insane chemistry it was hard to believe the show wasn‘t a bl. Im sure they knew what they were doing though, I actually think that the Prosecutors Proposal has a somewhat similar vibe but maybe it’s just me.
Thank you for your insight! It was fun to read and compare notes! I agree with mostly everything you wrote. I love well-written, layered and interesting characters, especially bottoms bc they unfortunately tend to have the short end of the stick Though I guess tops also tend to fall into the trap of being ‘too perfect’ and thus boring. Now that I think about it China seems to stand out among those examples haha. They know how to write fun characters
