I never expect a happy ending for these kind of costume dramas. But, despite the fact that this drama was cut short, it had a really good pace and an amazing ending. Honestly, the most perfect ending I have seen in a costume drama.
Hello! I hope you don't mind me sharing my take on this. I was a bit hesitant to watch after reading comments…
I think her dream was entirely a dream, but when it came to the ML, despite her thinking that the ML didn't like her, I think she somehow knew in her subconscious that he liked her. He even said in the last episode how he always liked her but never confessed to her, but always thought it must have been very obvious to her that he liked her.
The ML always liked her and let her be when she decided to get married to his best friend. He did nothing to pursue her and thought her to be happy and safe. He only started to protect her after her divorce, and even then he could not as his mother didn't allow his interference in the FL's life until he fulfilled his duties to the family business. I think the first time he actually protected her was when he found her in the first episode almost dead.
Other than the MLs feelings for the FL being real, every other aspect of the dream was just a dream. Even the ML in her dream was completely different to the ML in the real world because in her dream he literally had her locked up to protect her when all she wanted was freedom. The ML in the real world would never have done anything like that, he went out of his way to ensure she was happy (such as trying to buy a slave (her husband's lover) to see her smile) even if it meant her not being with him. I would have liked to know the real ML because he was so much more perfect for her than the one in her dream.
I did love the drama. I think I was more interested in the mystery aspect of why the ML liked her outside of the dream. I HATED how it ended on a cliffhanger, the entire drama is her dream and ends with her finally waking up after accepting the reality. It was really sad to see her guard go, he was such a sweet character, I understand that he was suppose to represent the FL, but seeing the guy who seemed more like the ML than the actual ML just disappear was sad.
I also hated that we saw so little of the ML. He is hardly in this drama, I kept waiting foe him to make more appearances, we see the most of him only in the last episode. I am pretty sure he also wasn't in several of the episodes, if he was, then only for a few minutes. If I didn't know he was the ML, I would not have guessed just from watching this drama, at least not until the last episode.
Yes, there is a SFL at the start but she likes another character after a few episodes and they have a really nice side story. There is also a SML, but he and the FL have a close platonic relationship (considering each other family) despite him having a crush on her, he doesn't really make a move but is always on her side.
Why when Fang admited than Hong Jun did not rape her all parents left the room as if it was a bad thing? It was…
What I found even worse was that after the rape news, the mum went to prison and offered to get him out if he married her daughter. The mother at this point still thought that he raped her daughter, so she wanted the supposed rapist the marry her daughter!
I watched the trailer of this drama several times (way too many times) before the drama came out and throughout the drama I was waiting for the scenes from the trailer to come up. A lot of the scenes that seemed really important did not come up this season that was on the trailer, such as the wedding with Fenglong and this being interrupted by Xiang Liu, Cang Xuan's confession and his 'betrayal'. I am not going to watch the trailer for the next season (hopefully), but was this season cut short, why were these scenes on the trailer.
One of the reasons I did not like Tushan Jing at the start was because of the trailer, it made him seem like a cheater. I was so angry that in the novel he ended up with her because out of all the guys, he seemed the worst. To be fair, I still don't ship him with Xiaoyao, I really want it to be Xiang Liu for her. Fenglong seems more like an innocent and adorable bystander and I love her brother/sister bond with Cang Xuan.
I heard Xing Liu and Xiaoyao do not end up together in the novel, but I really hope that is not the case for the dramas. I really want them to be endgame.
This is those dramas of like coming of age, where they go to college and we see their adult life, or is all set…
Starts in high school and ends after university, shows them through high school and university with flashbacks of them as children. There is also a time jump in the last few minutes.
Im hoping when it does get released, youku will promote it well
Litterally the only thing I've seen of this drama are promotions. In fact Youku makes it seem like they already released it (in 2022) in a lot of their promotions, they always list it with dramas that have already released, but I've heard never actually seen an official release date posted by them anywhere.
I really enjoyed this drama and it's plot twists were actually surprising. I am just happy that it had a good ending and despite the few scenes between Ari and Joon Kyung, I was happy with their story. Wish we got to see more of them actually together though.
I put off watching this drama and almost didn't watch this drama at all because it was categorised as "horror" and also because it was not categorised under "romance". I will say this drama is not really horror, as someone who hates horror it was not scary, maybe a bit of a thriller, and it definitely has romance.
The only reason I started this drama was for Tian Ching and a specific edit/mv I saw of him 😂😂. He was a waving RED flag, I would say his cousin was too. But I loved all of Kuang Tian's scenes, he is in so few dramas/movies, and a lot less as leads, he really suited his role here.
