I am glad to see Lee Ji Ah again! I hope this is good, ill watch it when its done airing. Also about time for…
There's a reason - it's because there's NEVER been a shortage of, nor a prejudice against, younger women dating/marrying older men. In fact, thru-out history, that's been the norm.
Noona romances however buck the expected and accepted. The prejudice against a WOMAN having a love affair with a man 25 years her junior is ENORMOUS compared to what a man has to face in the same situation!!!
Those who don't understand this are either wayyy too young to realize or just somehow think men should always be older :(

Excellent drama, despite all the behind the scenes goings on. I only have a couple problems overall.
First, either SK or more likely, KDramas, just seem to ignore self-defense. When one kills or injures a person who is attacking THEM, that is NOT MURDER nor attempted murder, nor even assault. This is true of In Ho when that young cop got knifed (the COP had the knife, In HO really did think his daughter in danger). More importantly, Joon Hee, when he did EVERYONE a favor & killed that waste of oxygen Hak Beom, was in fact stopping a man holding a gun to another man's head (although, really, too bad Beom's aim was so bad when he managed to actually shoot Tae Seok). Hardly cold-blooded murder at all - there was even taped evidence! So that whole little speech about bad choices made no sense for that incident.
Second, Beom and Tae Seok were the monsters. Obviously. Joon Hee suffered for years. NOT a monster. Beom was the one who raped that girl. Joon Ho hadn't a clue what was going on, he was so out of it. In Ho & Tae Sook just cleaned it up.
In Ho & Joon Hee were weak. I don't think that qualifies as being monstrous. Beom was insane, a misogynist with grandiose illusions about himself, while Tae Seok OMG totally scary, a man who had no conscious, thought himself above everything & everybody.
So the final broadcast where our serial killer heroine made it sound like ALL of those guys were somehow equally involved in that rape, that ALL of them were monsters, also fell flat for anyone who knew the truth. Now, for that fictional broadcast, of course it made sense for her not to get bogged down in details because she wanted to make a point.
The idea that Tae Sook might not get punished any more severely than Joon Hee irritates me sooooo much!!! They should have shown Joon Hee getting probation just like In Ho did, quite frankly - I would have felt much better about the ending.

Over 30 - BTW I didn't retire as an English teacher - I'm retired & a former English teacher. I taught English lit & composition at a junior college & was an English teacher in JR & SR HS for a few years (I've a M.Ed in English & French). I've also worked as an editor & proof reader (for several years).
I rather forget the context of picking her up - I don't remember it being abusive in the least.

There's a Bae DooNa film version (Untold Scandal - a sageuk) that I do believe does exactly what you are talking about - I'm interested in watching that (cause older characters I believe). I do like the original, but I have no problems with this one either.
I do agree about using kids just out of HS means no real look at society. But I don't think these kids are being portrayed the way such characters normally are in KDramas.

I keep getting Joy confused w/a couple other young actresses LOL I'm interested in her CHARACTER, but I can't say her acting has jumped out at me (bad or good...)

I'm sorry, but really life is like that. When someone holds an opinion different than yours that someone wants to understand why you hold it. Human nature. I understand that sometimes its hard to do that - you are reacting from non-verbal cues that might be specific to you & your life experiences which others don't share.
I've worked as an English professor - I'm used to criticizing others' attempts to decipher creative works. Pretty second nature to me. Plus I'm very interested in why people do have varied opinions of the same drama.
Thanks for at least attempting to explain why you can't explain (chemistry, I think, is the hardest to decipher).

LOL LOL LOL
I'm not upset nor offended. I'm a retired English teacher (among other titles) and I find it pretty funny that standard critical comments students receive on their essays daily are getting this kind of flack - I'm not saying anything not true.
If you or Bubal could kindly explain what our hero did that was actually abusive (rather than rude, abrasive, bullying, entitled, etc) that might help. OK, he behaved like a 5 year old & trip the girl (what, 4 years before the drama starts?) - I'm thinking that's it.

Since this is inspired by a couple remakes of a 200+ year old French novel, I don't think it's quite fair to say this.

Oh, you are correct, you don't have to. But my caveat - if you DON'T you come across as peevish, & no one understands you.
Your choice.
Just exactly why is it 'pestering' people to ask why they hold an opinion that I do not understand, but it's perfectly fine to insult me, tell me how to write comments, etc?

So you can't answer my question, I see. My point obviously was that this dialogue and the plot are no more cringey than most KDramas & considerably less so than many. You failed abysmally to explain yourself so your opinion is useless to anyone other than yourself.
WHY do you hold this opinion?

I wish the drama had been brave enough to make the three friends nasty, venal people instead of the woe-is-me…
Why? For me, who has seen about 5 remakes of the original, ALL of which had nasty, venal people in the leads, this is a breath of fresh air - I'm very interested to see how they will let this play out with the leads being tortured souls who are NOT particularly nasty at heart! It's a new take - if it were just a rehash I would not be enjoying it nearly as much. Also, SO sorry, but since when is nasty & venal REALISTIC????? That's insane. This is in fact more realistic because it's a young cast (ie in the original French novel they were NOT young) & because people are NOT either evil or good but almost always somewhere in the middle - it's usually their choices that screw them over rather than their intentions.
Therefore having these kids be troubled youngsters acting out against their parents, and not really thinking clearly about where all their actions can lead them, is MUCH more realistic than, say, Cruel Intentions turned out to be. The original was realistic because the truly evil one, the woman who quashed everything good inside her and actively set out to destroy the good in others, was an aging frustrated female, damaged herself, who'd had time to destroy herself.
Don't fall into that false idea that in order to be real it has to be depressing LOL
Now I will call this unrealistic if the ending turns out all roses and singing for all these kids - that would be sweet but highly unlikely.

Also, pretty sure that Kim Min Jae's character falls hard for the little over-protected girl (Oh Ha Nee's character), & end's up killing his friend over her...But in the original both KMJ's character & OHN's are very young while the other 3 main leads are in their 30s at least, if not older. So the dynamics are very much different.
I'm very interested to see how it plays out, because for the first time, out of all the adaptations I've seen the leads are pretty darn sympathetic. I understand the motivations completely.

It's ALL 'point of view' - some people explain their POV using logic and references to the work in question, while others just spout off a POV gained from a superficial scan of the material. Guess which POV is more credible?
