To be honest, all the argument about realism is moot. We certainly don't know how people looked like in the medieval age. They certainly have shorter life expectancy. Our youth and beauty judgment are biased towards the modern age, where ladies have access to the best medical care, expensive cosmetics [ and plastic surgery too :-) ].

No age shaming. She is at her prime as an woman and looks like a refined lady. Just not young enough to portray a teen girl just past puberty. But then , as someone here said, guys are not suppose to fly around violating gravity. So I'll give the director a pass and just watch and imagine she's 16-17.

I think jtbc probably did not invest much marketing resources to this show.the publicity is non existent. No preview photos , videos anything. Compare this to TVN Queen of Tears where there is information overload ad nauseum every week while it's airing.

Nah..i think the make up department in this show did a good job. Her character is suppose to be down and out and lack confidence, not a bubbly cute idol.

I went to see the music video clip. I have a hard time trying to recognize the FL in the video.

As an aside, as I watch the series, I kept thinking the FL would be perfect for the role of Mao Mao in a live action remake of the Apothecary Diaries Anime (if that ever happens). She has her appearance, serious intellectual beauty, very big eyes, quite thin and diminutive enough. Just needed to be younger though.

I just read they substituted the FL voice? I mean what the heck for, this is not a musical.
I've seen her in clips of that famous Qin Dynasty drama. Her voice is perfectly normal.

I'd first ask how she can biogically turn into an old lady in an instant. I mean with fantasy themed kdramas, I won't even bother bout logic. Like what the Daoist says, just go with the flow.

Where is the period set for this drama located? The palaces, medieval period streets, looks familiar, like used on Joy of Life 1.

It's humid and hot in the Great Yan due to human induced climate change. All those cows and their burps of death..

This show deserves more buzz...

It's got pretty good TV ratings but it's not trending here or elsewhere, kind of the reverse of Lovely Runne situations. So few comments and quiet here but on the positive side, fewer trolls and much less negative toxicity.

Thanks for your detailed answer, I get your point on using visual metaphors but sorry, I still think using not very good CGI cheapens it a bit. It could be done in other ways with live actors.
Other than that particular scene, the rest of the show has been very good visually.
I am not an arts person but am a bit of a Kurosawa fan, Which of his works were you referring to?
Also in which episodes does The Double evoke old school scrolls? I'm still in the early episodes but I'll watch out for them.
