I actually do not think he is creepy. He is just obsessive because of his environment. Okay, that is somewhat creepy. But not particularly creepy at the same time, lol. I do not know how to make sense with this lol

So SY was a special forces soldier at the border. He went to school after him and XQ broke up and finished well and joined the army. He was trying to build a name and career for himself so that he'd be able to stand well and proud with her. And one other thing I do not want to spoil rn. Anyway, he was doing well there, but MYC's mother was not happy enough with him and XQ being separated and used their military connections to frame him for being a traitor. According to protocol, traitors are tortured and then killed, so he was tortured for about half a month and almost lost his life, but then was released. So he lost all his opportunities and was let go dishonourably. MYC's father did not know about this though. He found out I think when SY's uncle went to beg on his knees for them to let him go. That is why the Zhai family hates the Meng family. It is not because they looked down on them and caused SY and XQ to break up. It is because they ruined SY's life.
So when SY was released, the only thing he could do was become a firefighter. He still misses it. That is why when MYC and XY are ignorantly talking about how SY must not love XQ enough because he did not try to be a better man with better standing in society to gain approval from the parents, it hurts and is very annoying because he put in. a lot of effort, but that wicked witch from the west almost took his life in the process.

I think relating the dad's job to them is to highlight SY's original family backstory and how his family fell apart. The trailer shows her breaking their family portrait and it's the same as in the novel. He also was special forces and left after a few years like in the novel. So I think even if they do not do the same thing, it'll be something similar because the reason is why he left the army and that does not have anything to do with his dad's job

Last things for today.
MYC is acting this way because that is how he has been raised. We tend to overlook the fact that he was raised in oppressive environment like XQ. He did not have it as bad as she did, but it was still bad. He also genuinely believes that everything is for her good and the good of their family. So the event that made XQ completely break away from their family was an eye opener for him too. It was a huge turning point in his life. The scales fell off and the weight lifted.

I wonder if they are going to keep the big reason SY's family hates the Meng family in the drama. I do not know if the actual full reason will pass censorship. I hope that even if they change it, it is something of equal impact

And with all the changes they made, it's likely that they will reconcile the Meng mother in the drama

Everyday I am grateful for the wisdom of the scriptwriters to change XQ's character for the live adaptation because she'd be even more hated if they showed her as in the novel.
In the novel, she did not particularly care about patients, or their guardians. She was just there to do her job and bounce. She could not empathise with them at all. She was not concerned for them, but she was talented and dedicated to providing the best treatment. This is the reason Prof Xu did not like her. He said she was too cold and indifferent and did not value human life, which was a violation of the oath she took to become a doctor. But that it especially upset him because she was a rare talent. Truly she did not particularly value life, how could she when she was clinically depressed and spoke about dying like someone would speak about deciding to change clothes?
She also did not have any relationship with her colleagues. She said only the things she needed to say, responded with a yes, or no when necessary, and when not, she did not respond at all. Her only friend in was Xiao Yixiao, and we know he's more her brother's friend than hers.
She also did not smile at anyone other than SY and then his family because they were very welcoming of her. But it was not her fault. She said, a number of times, that she wished she had eyes that were expressive and could talk like Xiaorao's eyes so that people could know how she felt at a glance, but her eyes were silent and oppressive and it drove even her crazy.
But she grew in the story. She had something of an epiphany at some point about how it felt to be the family member of a patient and stuff like that. She also started interacting more with her colleagues.

I love the writing of the novel because it makes you think. You understand in a new way how peoples experiences can affect their lives. how it affects their choices and even the things they say. How even though we may disagree with something, there is truth to it. The story is written in such a way that truly makes the characters human. Like it's not all fiction to appease an audience

I think the thing that has been holding MYC's feelings for so long is regret about being unable to do anything about his and XQ's situations and that because of it, he cannot fight for them to be together. FYI, MYC and XQ liked each other when they were young, before she transferred. But they both had to choose, if she did not change her name, thereby making them legal siblings, she'd be abandoned.
And it is because of this that MYC hates SY. Because she seems to want to fight for her relationship with SY, but what of him? Since there is opposition for both options anyway, why is it possible with SY? And because she chose her family over him and over SY before, he's sort of confident she'll never choose even in the future.

I realised an interesting perspective to see MYC's feelings today. I have been thinking about this for some days, trying to understand. Look at MYC and XQ like DJX and SZ in Hidden Love. The only difference here is that they live together. A family friend took in the child of his late friend, to give her a better life instead of allowing her to be sent to the orphanage. I do not think they really had a problem with her surname, but their mom wanted to put an obstacle to their feelings and used the name change for that. So she'd be in their family register as their daughter.

He doesn't like Yezi. Also, the only reason she caught their attention is because she looks like the FL.
But I have no idea if they will develop something btw YZ and MYC later because she was trouble in the novel and not this involved

To be his mistress. And she got kicked out in the end. And she gave birth to a son for him, but he was adopted by the main wife and she never saw him

Sounds like the conclusion is that you should not have trauma as an adult because you're now working. You cannot be oppressed or abused as an adult because you're now working. That's funny lol
Also, can you not see that her mother still goes through her children's account statements????? Did she stop controlling them in their adulthood? Did we also miss the party where she talked about how animals are trained from when they are little so that even when they grow up, they still live in the boundaries they were given?????

The showdown I'm waiting for is the conversation btw Song Yan and Meng Yanchen after SY and XQ start dating. I looove it. It was a reality check for MYC that's for sure

This is such a mean thing to say. Is it because she's a fictional character? Is it her fault that she is depressed? With her broken and repressed childhoodfrom her original to her adoptive family, how else could she have turned out?

It took me some time to read that confrontation because I just kept rereading parts. It's so sad, but poignant. The pain is palpable

I believe so. Those that have read the whole book said so. I'm a couple of chapters away from the end because of translation

The book was about their lives and their professions, but it mostly focused on them. With the way the storytelling is supposed to feel, it's not possible to have her family out of the picture until the end. Her character growth will take time and this is tightly tied to her family

I know the fan is a part of the costume, I'm saying him using it specifically adds to my annoyance with his character. There's just something about it that is infuriating

She really really really doesn't. She really doesn't. She was repressed from childhood. Even in her original family, things were not great. So she has low self esteem and is very weak
