I had this on my watch list but... I really don't like Sandrine Pinna. Good review.
She gave a rather one note performance. In this drama it actually worked in her favor because everyone else chewed the scenery. 😄

It was watchable even compelling for the most part. On another day I would have given it an 8. As it marched toward the finish line I thought it stumbled. The entire drama was composed of damaged people who made highly questionable choices. They were all one more hit away from burning down an orphanage. 🔥

Currently available on Tubi.

It is also on Prime in my region with a Film Movement trial/subscription though at least in early scenes, the Mandarin was not subtitled in English. :/ I switched over to Tubi and dealt with the numerous commercials because at least they had proper subtitling.

Review Yanagawa Spoiler
I’m sure part of the problem was me. I don’t tend to enjoy movies of people talking for two hours without…
It was implied that the older brother slept with her in Japan but then it turned out he was impotent and couldn’t perform. The second brother chickened out at the last second. All of which made her seem fickle and easy. She finally put together that it was the younger brother who always stood by her, too late of course.

Love Ni Ni but this sounds like something I am going to skip.
I’m sure part of the problem was me. I don’t tend to enjoy movies of people talking for two hours without making much progress. And it didn’t help that I found the older brother annoying. Ni Ni’s character too often seemed to be defined by the men around her which was not interesting.

I’ve seen enough drama comments to know that too many buy into the dangerous lure of the abusive, possessive alpha male. My mama told me you can’t trust a guy just because he looks good in a pair of jeans. And boy was she right!

You said it under your spoiler comments. I wanted to leave a comment like this, but idgits would tske it as I'm…
I like to play with 🔥😂

It has nothing to do with the actor but with the writers. Of all the wild convoluted happenings in the drama, that’s what caused me to stumble. 🚩

Thank you. 😊

Lol - those unmentionable Butterfly twins!Seems like this drama lost me in the same places it lost you. It was…
Yeah. Those twins are definitely not invited to the family reunions. You don’t even want to know the weird stuff they get up to. Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ😆

It’s a shame. I thought the drama had potential. It felt like the writer lost interest in certain characters and overwrote others in a limited context. I like your HP analogy. 😄

I looked him up and there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on his background. This was one of the stories and the film used it. The makeup made him look like a Klingon.

Review Master of Zen
Seems this is a heavily fictionalised account - Siddhartha Gautama never traveled to China. His enlightenment…
This was not Siddhartha but a Buddhist master from the 4th or 5th century who came to China to share the Chan/Zen version of Buddhism. The film never gave his original name. When he was admitted to the temple in his home country and his head was shaved in India (or Persia) he was given the new name of Bodhi Dharma. He is considered the patriarch of Chan Buddhism in China and the creator of Shaolin kung fu because he gave shaolin monks the exercises to strengthen their bodies. A little hard to separate the man from the legend. He’s said to have resurrected a second time to walk back to India at 150 years old. The first time he was burned to a crisp. Tyvm for the gift 🦋💕
