I enjoyed it as well. The scene at the end of the birthday party graded it slightly down for me.
I think the wanderer was her grandfather not only because of his response to reading the diary, but also the drawing of Sora and smacking the dad upside the head as he left. When Sora gave him the honorary gun salute he disappeared. I think she knew it was him after seeing the drawing.
I loved the monochromatic look along with the score. It gave it more of a magical feel to it which juxtaposed with the very realistic father daughter relationship was special. This one was very hard for me to rate. I thought it was well made, but certain elements gave me pause. May still bump it up in the near future when I've had time to properly reflect on it. I'm happy to have someone to talk about it too, not many people have watched it. Thank you for the flower. ^^
Same reason Everything Everywhere All at Once is not on here (as well as numerous other of her movies). They are US productions. The films have to be produced by one of the countries on MDL-HK, China, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand. I wish we could list all of her credits. Maybe one day. :)
Worth the wait! What an amazing amount of work went into this! Good job WDH sis and all the writers. Now if someone who can do something about it would see your article and take some of those suggestions to heart. 💐💖

This movie seems to be one people either like or don’t. After seeing its low score on several sites I went into it apprehensively. When I saw the interviews with the grown children at the end of the movie it cemented why it was made and it helped determine my score. But you might think it’s a 6. 😄
How could they change the ending??I tried to watch this a long time ago and thought the dubbing was horrible.…
They did change the ending and it was awful. In fact, they put a propaganda message for the Chinese railroad in it! No version can top the Glenn Close movie. The cast and story were stellar and mesmerizing in that one. No comeuppance for the the Marquise in this one.
I have yet to watch the second season. To be honest, I would have been okay with the S1 wrap-up. I'm happy your article is finally out. Superb job as always!

Thank you. ^^ Seven is not a too low a rating for me. It means average. The story and acting were below average for me and the animal killings bumped it down, but the sheer enthusiasm from the cast bumped the score up. And of course, Jet Li.
