Has anyone here seen or have any tea on the Amercanised series 'Bet'? I hear it deviates a lot from the source material which makes me curious to watch, but also Americanised adaptions of manga/anime don't exactly have the best track record...
Honestly, I've been generous with my star rating if you consider cinematography alone. But when you consider this is autobiographical – and therefore what it took for this film to see the light of day – you can't help but brush aside the little gripes.
Personally I feel like the teacher/student sex scenes could be seen as titillating, but I think the directors have managed to refrain from complete gratuity. I probably would've had more issue with it if it wasn't for the use of Teacher Shinoda as a foil for Teacher Maki. The former shows that teacher/student relationships can get complicated (particularly when the student is borderline harassing the teacher) but that the teacher can still choose not to cross the line, whereas the latter demonstrates the dire consequences for the student when that line is crossed.
As for the rest, I liked that show wasn't completely black and white. It was reductionist in many ways, but I think what it did emphasise well was that teenage years should be used for making mistakes and figuring things out, whether that's in regard to romantic relationships or other matters. Obviously, it did require massive suspense of disbelief from the audience along the way...
about 50/50 Tagalog/English (no Eng sub for the Tagalog)
tbh this show sounds great - i love chaotic comedy, intentional or not
