I love Japan when Japan loves me. These types of shows with everyday people, I almost feel like I could be any of these characters.. No supernatural plot or super rich characters. It feels surreal and touching. Much love to Japan β€οΈβ€οΈ
Anyone else suspect Kazuaki's problem is that he has a micro-penis and doesn't want anyone to see it? Teeny-tiny…
Or maybe he is asexual. Kaori I'm not so sure. Some people suspect she's cheating or like girls or femme men. But Kazuaki says specifically, "I can't give you the relationship you want." Maybe he cares about Sei and is also mad at himself that he can't reciprocate sexual feelings for Sei. For their situation, I am sympathetic to both at least for now.
I miss this show..... I need them to confirm season 2 so I have something to look forward to. Seeing Korean rappers on my screen every year is always a highlight to me.
To me it's funny that he received hate in Korean media, but in English-speaking media I'm aware of, we all love TOP's portrayal of his character... I mean, I started watching Squid Games 2 without knowing he was in it, so I was surprised then very pleased with this character.. The character is a psycho, and he portrays it so well that Korean media is convinced he's a psycho. Guys!! Did you know he was acting?!!!
I love JBLs so bad. They express such deep emotions without the characters saying much at all. The deep loneliness and general sense of depression.. just ahhh. This is really my favorite flavor of BL. I just love this type of everyday mundane depression that anyone could be experiencing.
Episode 11 may be my favorite episode out of them all. You can feel how much their communication and dynamic has improved. I'd love if this continued from there and we could see them get to the point where they finally reveal their relationship. Even better, I would love to see this show continued when gay marriage is finally legalized in Japan. I feel it's coming soon.
I thought Block 3's last performance wasn't that good and that's why Block 2 blew them out in the votes. 800-something…
Well just for discussion's sake. If you want to know how I feel about it. Haon's feel good performance felt genuine. Block 3's ending performance, everyone was standing in one place.. Block 2 was much more dynamic. Multiple people appear and perform on different parts of the stage. They used stage setting very well. I felt that Block 3's performance didn't use the stage well. As well as the backup singers were weird because I didn't even hear them. I really felt.. "why are they there?" Not to mention Block 3 used only one beat and Block 2 used multiple. This made their stage more fun and kept the audience guessing.
When it comes to ShyboiiTobi. The two features rapped more than him. I tend to gravitate towards a performance more based off the actual person competing. I felt ShyBoiiTobi didn't rap enough (my preference) and he was also stiff with his movements. When comared to a natural like Kim Haon, it was too easy for him to lose. Lee Youngji could have not been there, and the performance would have still been amazing.
Moving on to the first performance of each block. J.Tong and Loopy had no rapping features. Instead.. we got J.Tong who has a lower pitched voice and a very masculine vibe mixed with Loopy who has a higher pitched voice. Loopy's stage presence and gestures are no joke. The ease in his performance. The way Loopy switches his flows.. I am not really a listener of Loopy's music but he has genius-level musicality. An unlikely pair of Loopy and J.Tong was just too good. Also, the guitar was awesome. You said it "saved" them. To me, it just elevated their performance even more. Plus I enjoy a feature that's not a rapper. EK's God God God performance comes to mind where he had his friends who were in a dance crew.. That was so cool. I enjoy these types of elements.
Look at Yang Kyle and Roh Yunha. I like both of their music, but I feel that Yang Kyle lacks the professionality of the likes of Loopy and J.Tong. He's not bad. He just has less experience. Not to mention that Yang Kyle has great raw and aggressive energy (we saw this on Rap Cup), but he chose to sing a lot in these performances.. I think this was not a great choice of him. Generally, Yang Kyle and Roh Yunha's performance was good. I have no notes on Roh Yunha as I think he killed it. Their performance was GOOD. But it was not GREAT.
As a contrast, J.tong's flows are so sticky in your ears like... in the final Block 2 performance, it was so good.
I watched SMTM as it aired from season 4. SMTM was a great program, but as it went, I feel the brand grew so much…
One thing about SMTM, is it definitely gave more songs... that is something I can't argue with at all.
I just went to Melon charts (basically to South Korea as Billboard is to the USA) and unless my eyes overlooked something, none of the songs from the show are in the Top 100... That's unfortunate. Like you, I was hoping the songs would chart....
I thought Block 3's last performance wasn't that good and that's why Block 2 blew them out in the votes. 800-something…
Yes, I was referring to all 3 matches. I believe that Kim Haon's match gave them the most votes. If last performance got more votes, the blowout wouldn't have been so big. That's what I was saying.
But we just have completely different opinions on how good the performances were. If I were to rank them, I'd say Kim Haon, Block 2's final performance, and J.tong and Loopy were the best. Essentially, I agree with the crowd voting.
At least we got Rap:Public and I was introduced to new Korean rappers! Although as someone who's watched all seasons…
I watched SMTM as it aired from season 4. SMTM was a great program, but as it went, I feel the brand grew so much that everything was over-edited and the performances became more boring. I like to call later Show Me The Money.. Show Me The Feature. It is clear that the producers were aiming to chart their songs rather than nurture the hip-hop community in South Korea. It's like I watched the stages of capitalism from the industrial revolution to late-stage capitialism one year at a time...
This format is very different from SMTM, but I am happy SMTM is over because it was slowly becoming a dumpster fire. This online show allows for less censoring (the tattoos are an obvious one), and this is just the first season.. If you go back and compare the first three seasons of SMTM to the last season... yeah, it is so different. Hopefully this show lasts enough seasons to see some real growth and it can turn into something better and better.
Super enjoyed. I was rooting for Block 2 to win no doubt. Nosun, Foggyatthebottom, ShyboiiTobii, J.Tong... I mean.. daaannng. The list goes on and on. On Block 3, I appreciate Roh Yunha's music a lot. I love his newest EP with CherryBoy17. And I listen to Yang Kyle's music as well. He has some interesting experimental stuff...
But when it comes to the musicality as a whole, I'd say Block 2 is the most "rap-like." I think Block 3 especially with their last performance tried to lean a little too pop where Block 2 stayed true to rap roots. As well, the blocking and synergy of the group didn't feel as genuine as Block 2. They kind of stayed in the middle of the stage where Block 2 had a very dynamic and explosive presence. The way Block 2 saved Loopy and J.Tong for the end was very smart... the performance was building and building. But I will admit Nosun, Foggy, and J.Tong were no doubt my favorites of the block performance.
Also, I think Kaogaii might have gotten some hate from the online community.. but he was easily the most entertaining person on the whole show. Kaogaii, Since, the entirety of Block 5, and probably Fleeky Bang had the most solid storylines. Since changed her mind one million times, Kaogaii was a strong and unyielding leader, and Block 5's journey was so up and down.. I was sad when their Block dissolved. And for me Fleeky Bang was one of the rappers that shined this season. He shined because of his ability and was also a leader, so he got lots of screentime. I think Kim Haon also had an interesting storyline with him finding it hard to deal with the pressures of being a leader.
I hope they refine for next year. For example make the beef challenge more enticing and stop next year from using it just to spread money around. I found that smart, but the fact that's the only time the beef challenge was used, I'd call that idea a failure. Maybe they can incorporate money into more battles/challenges so there's more of a reason for a beef challenge.. or maybe they need to replace it with something else. I also loved the idea of the Kill Them All challenge, but I think the same beat for an hour is overkill.. maybe reduce it to a limited number of rappers per team instead..... My last suggestion (i know mnet isn't reading this lol) is to make eliminations more intuitive. I feel like it took a long time for people to get eliminated then when it did, I was just kinda like... "ehhhh." I feel like they should give more incentive for blocks to stay small instead of people breaking their block because there's not enough people.. or idk. I kind of want more twists with the death matches. There was a lot of twists, but I think they could do more.. I mean, the production team has a long time to think about this. Let them really re-think everything and give some great twists next year.
Block 3 really did well in the FINAL performances!! I enjoyed every single performance of them!! My boys did so…
I thought Block 3's last performance wasn't that good and that's why Block 2 blew them out in the votes. 800-something to 500-something votes.. Yeah, they picked the wrong strategy. Doing a feel-good song as the final song and having the youngest members do the first performance lost them big. Kim Haon's performance was amazing but that's it.
This show is single-handedly reminding me why I need to continue living and get through whatever struggles I may be facing. This feeling that series like this give me means so much to me.
Do hoe pisses me off...... please please tell me his behavior is justified cause GOD forbid I simp over someone…
I also just watched episode 6 and right now I just hate Dohoe so bad πππ How can someone be so dense, arrogant, and close-minded? It's absolutely terrible.
