It's not like I actually care about the story but the writer seems to be promoting assualt, rape and toxic relationships…
My perspective is the same as yours. It is just a TV show/book. Showing these images on TV MIGHT influence some people to do bad things, but they were probably already bad people to start with. Most of us know these are just stories! It is just an imagination. It is really hard to find a fictional representation of a relationship that has no toxic points; you are absolutely right. I agree with you again that, if it makes you uncomfortable, no shame in dropping this show, but I feel like some people are really trying to ruin it for others and act like there can only be view.
It's not like I actually care about the story but the writer seems to be promoting assualt, rape and toxic relationships…
To be fair lots of danmeis also "promote" rape and assault. I dunno about the OP, but for me that as well is in line with this comment's way of thinking. TharnType in my opinion is no different from this show. TT actually bothers me more than this because Type was a sexual assault victim. At least here the brother thought he raped the other and wasn't raped.. but maybe that's worse. Lol. I dunno.
I guess arranged marriages are still a thing, and for some people they probably work, but how can you think it's…
During the credits, I don't personally make a distinction between the two teachers as one being creepy. To me all those cut scenes are weird lol. He's weird at other times though.
I will admit everyone though that I was completely wrong about the parent relationship. I took an inch and went a mile.
Really there is nothing ethical about teacher-student relationships in high school. Not like I get hung up on ethical though. It's dirty either way if it's the "creepy" teacher or the not creepy one (if they have the same intentions). It's all assumptions right now though.
I think there is deep thought behind the scenes if you read some comments posted after yours. Many people talk…
Yeah, that's why many have tags like nudity, graphic language, sexual intercourse, images, material (however you wanna say it). This show has a rape tag as well. And a stalker tag, but stalking is super romanticized even more so than rape.
She just used every possible popular trope in bl mangas that were released decades agao. Don't think she is anywhere…
I agree she is using popular tropes from written things, but I feel like she is upsetting people in a way they have not been upset before. I see even more upset people than usual, so I think that shows something is at least a little bit more detestable about her writing which means creativity. Even if she is just slightly tweaking, mixing, weaving older things, she managed to get people to react in a different way. Something has to be different about her writing then.
This was cute and funny, but there’s on huge flaw XD it’s the fact that all the boys in the story are constantly…
Don't apologize for your opinion. Lol.
I think that making fun of BL cliches is not particularly clever, but it seems to be a new trend with shows like YYY, Ossan's Love, Lovely Writer. So, people are gonna like it cuz we haven't seen it a lot before. I think it's pretty cool because it's newer, but it is not amazing or anything. I enjoyed this.
I agree with you that the show is a car crash. But who are both rapists? I cannot understand what you're saying.…
I get what you are saying now. I was just getting confused with how you wrote it. Also, there is nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with these scenes! They are clearly messed up scenes, and I think it's weird some people are having trouble admitting that what Yong Jie did was rape. You can get raped by someone you love.
Also for the romanticizing rape, all of us who can get over the rape are clearly not normal people. We are all demented BL fans. Lol. People really need to stop shaming people for not being comfortable with the idea of rape! Rape is a horrible thing. Just because some of us are crazy doesn't mean everyone else is.
I’m so tired of non consent and rape being shown as romantic behavior that is okay and has no consequences for…
Yeah, I completely agree with what all of y'all are saying on a moral level. The difference here of if it was a girl, saying the behavior wouldn't be okay is very correct (in TV shows at least.. there are plenty of girlxguy rape novels out there). The difference here is that this is a BL. BL is pretty much synonymous with Yaoi. Even if people try to separate the two, this can be seen with how BL is called "Y" in Thailand (short for Yaoi), and they are the number one makers of BL.. Maybe the Philippines is catching up though. Back on topic, yaoi or BL which are essentially the same thing have both explored topics of rape and more for a long time. This is written this way because it's yaoi.
It's true that TV shows not condemning any of the actions and letting the characters get away, is problematic. Because all viewers will not have the common sense and/or knowledge to properly evaluate these events in a moral way.
I just have a hard time calling the presentation of these events in this way wrong. It can spread bad ideas (and this show is not to bring awareness, I concur), but I often ask myself why can't people write these messed up stories? People have been writing messed up stories forever. It's just now it's in a popular Taiwanese BL drama is all. If the writers were to show these actions of rape and sexual assault as bad, then they couldn't write their demented plot of guy gets raped and falls in love with the rapist. You know what I'm saying? I believe that people have the right to write and enjoy these stories.
It's like what's the difference with rape porn or step dad and step mom porn and etc? Anyone and everyone accesses porn from young ages, and we all know that it is not real just like how these TV shows are not real. Some people may see rape porn and then go rape someone. That is always a risk. It's just the same as someone may watch a horror movie with a murderer and go murder someone. There may even be an educational documentary about a serial killer that is not meant to promote the act of murder, but someone may see that and go try to recreate that person's crimes. If a TV show shows someone stealing and they don't get caught (or maybe they do get caught), that may inspire someone to go steal.
Do you see what I'm saying? I think the show is definitely problematic, but to me this is just not a black and white issue. Is it wrong? Yes. Should it be able to be put on TV? Why not? Why can't it be? I don't see why not.
I watched the link from here but I think it's cut. anyways, the episode was very strong and intens, I wanted to…
I think there is deep thought behind the scenes if you read some comments posted after yours. Many people talk about how perhaps this show using intense and shocking scenes to grab your attention, but as you continue to watch you will see certain nuances like how Yong Jie actually had no intention to kill himself. He TOTALLY catfished his brother into thinking he was gonna kill himself, but all Yong Jie wanted to do was explain his feelings (a pretty bad method).
I think rather, the show is just using extreme unorthodox methods to turn BL cliches into crazy drama. Maybe they want to transform the genre. And the way they use certain things like Vice President Gao trying to rape Muren.. It is crazy how they use that to show Licheng has feelings for Muren.. OMG. I will not blame you if you drop this or find it too adverse. But I think the scenes do have some (deep) thought to them. It is just not conventional thought. The writer is trying to combine TV BL cliches with the crazy-dirty stuff you may find in some yaoi novels.. It's like a fusion genre.
To explain the scene with Muren more, VP Gao drugged him. It's the drug they use on girls in sex-trafficking or guys in sex-trafficking. It is not a cool drug, but it make people really horny which is why Muren was so hot.. Because people's bodies tend to go warm when they get really turned on.. For Muren, it's so much that he went crazy in a sexual way. It is a really cliche yaoi plot device. I remember one of my first yaoi animes being about a guy who saved this little boy from a sex trade and the boy was still high on that drug... you can imagine how that went.
And yeah, they are making these actors do some messed up stuff.. This show is really not for the faint of heart. It should be rated 18+ seriously. Rape, suicide, rape-drugs.. it is not for kids at all.
You need to put a spoiler warning on your comment. The step-brother situation is the most intense and dramatically…
I mean, express your opinion all you want. But there's nothing wrong with being in the minority. Also, someone can like BL and not like rape and sexual assault in stories. They just have to avoid certain things.
The preview... HAHAHA. "If I was a man, that'd be sexual harassment." This show is so problematic. I am so dead. First, there is not gender in sexual harassment. And two, Licheng how are you making sexual harassment into a romantic situation?!!?
And they bring in a girl, how cliche! I think it's great. I cannot wait for the cliche drama that is to come in the next two episodes! "Being gay is not easy." "What you feel is not love, it's attachment." LOL. You seriously can't get tired of these plots.
I think the writer Shao Hui Ting is actually very talented. People need to give her more credit. And maybe she was on drugs when she wrote this, maybe. But you gotta admit.. it's pretty creative.
I also dunno if their love story makes no sense. Plenty of people have loves from childhood. It happens.
I enjoy the show.
