Some* of y'all comparing this show to HIStory really only seem to be talking about HIStory 3.. Y'all should really watch the first two.
Taiwan hasn't done a lot of shows, so for me this feels like mix between any generic Thai BL and earlier HIStory. I didn't like HIStory 3 anyways. I like the new direction and the show could get bad or it could be amazing. We'll see.
I hope this show does a good job at tackling the topic of sexuality. I love director Xing Si's face whenever they are talking about BL and "attacking" and "receiving" and all the other little jokes like the "fried chicken" one inserted in this episode.
Ngl. That step-brother stuff is WEIRD! But I am willing to overlook it. If I couldn't overlook stuff, I would quit watching everything. Lol. We will probably get an explanation soon. Step brothers in HIStory have a great pattern of being the sweetest couple ever though! So we may be yearning more for that side pair, but I really like Mu Ren and Cheng Li as well.
Um, So I watched the first two episodes.. I mean where is the BL? Haha, I think the first episode should have…
It is a slow-paced show. There was a premiere where some people saw the first couple episodes and they said Li Cheng will go after Mei Fang for a while before anything really happens between him and Mu Ren. I like it that way though.
I think the first episode is good. I have been waiting for this, and I was left wanting more, so I only have good things to say.
It is cheesy so maybe you could say the humors off if you're not into that, but I did not think the fujoshis were appalling or overbearing. I feel like these are sensible representations of fujoshis, and I don't know where the show is going from here, but it seems good to me and I am in for the ride!
You dropped Sotus? ;-; I don't like how Kongpab uses that line either, but the rest of the series is gold. Whenever…
Hahahah. You're right. Kongpab sucks as well. Sotus was one of my firsts too, and I love how you watched both seasons even when you hate Arthit. At least Sotus can be a part of most of everyone's BL watching experience.
I find the way that the storyline moves with all the hazing is painfully rewarding. That's just my take though.
You dropped Sotus? ;-; I don't like how Kongpab uses that line either, but the rest of the series is gold. Whenever…
It has a high rating on MDL (8-ish), but if you go into the comment section, people are just like "it's so boring" or "it's not special compared to current stuff." I also encounter people like you on other threads.. Lol. For me Kongpab and Arthit are both very flawed characters, and that is part of why I like them together so much. They are interesting and fun to watch together while actually loving each other and working their relationship out.
I have watched Sotus many times. I understand if you don't like Arthit because of the scene where he asks Kongpab to ask for a bunch of men's numbers and say he's gay on the school lunch table and then Arthit takes advantage of his university female nong's to get their phone numbers.. I get it....
At the same time, this constitutes only the beginning of the series, but all it takes is bad first impressions to not like a character. I am also assuming this is why you don't really like Arthit. Arthit was being pressured by his friends and upper-classmen to do a good job. The whole SOTUS system and hazing cannot be contributed to him because he didn't make them, you know? He just carried them on. I like to think that when he totally lost his cool with Kongpab that it can be explained by all the stress he felt as a leader.
Plus in his normal everyday life, Arthit is a (very most likely - as in they never said it unless i missed but i am 100% sure) virgin and an introvert.. I mean, it is not like he gets around out here. He made some bad decisions. I find them to be a result of his self-concerned and at some times self-loathing personality. He blows up and is stubborn. I learned to love him for it. At least, he only was personally rude to Kongpab and he made up for it in how he treated Kongpab throughout their relationship. He apologizes as well specifically to Kongpab after all the hazing business is done, so I find it easy to forgive Arthit.
Arthit due to his personality as well has a very hard with his sexuality. This is expressed in Sotus but even more in Sotus S. I mean.. to carry on what was already too long, Kongpab is also a very spoiled, annoying, arrogant little brat.. Lol. It's not like both of them do not have a very hard time. Hahahahah. That's why it's so good. I have been a big fan of Singto ever since.
We all have to acknowledge that we can like trash. I have said many times, I like the series..
Yeah. Maybe the word I used was too vulgar. I had to use the word so much in this thread because it describes exactly what you just said. It's not about the production quality or how much money went into it. Trash just means that creatively, artistically this does not stray much from a lot of the mainstream stuff we see every day. But the word is still negative. I am saying the show does not have much value. I think it tries to have value but the execution choices are poor.
I would have said that I also really appreciated the point where Gene said he wanted to explore more character…
I do not know anything about Fantasy Horror, and I think most people don't so that one probably got past most of us. I mean, when I think more about it, you're totally right.
The questioning BL industry is probably genuine. It's just the way they do it in this show almost seems like an undertone. Because the show is so dramatized but it portrayed to come across as a realistic story.. it's hard to explain. The seriousness of Bua's action and other bad BL tropes just isn't obvious. To us, we may shake our heads. But when they play it up and make the situations into jokes, I find it kind of a shame if they really were trying to point out that those clichés are reductive. It is worse if it turns into a "how I learned to love my sexually harassing seme."
Also the "how I learned to love my sexually harassing seme" is a theme I totally allow in books that aren't adapted and yaoi for some reason.. It seems okay then. I guess it's because when real live-breathing people do it, it crosses the line of fiction for me. I recommend to everyone the anime "Dakaichi."
I would have said that I also really appreciated the point where Gene said he wanted to explore more character…
I do see that. We could even say that "commentary" that may be seen as progressive is not real concern from Gene. It is just his internalized homophobia. No idea if the writer intended it to be that way. Is it an honest attempt to criticize BL or is it all coincidental..?
I would have said that I also really appreciated the point where Gene said he wanted to explore more character…
You are right. I was so busy rolling my eyes at her begging for more sex scenes to even realize there's actual commentary there. I feel like this show really does have good parts to it. It's just that the show feels so much like a regular BL that I can't put myself in the mindset to be thoughtful.
Unlike shows like YYY or Ossan's Love, the parody aspect of this show is not obvious. Lovely Writer in that way is so unique in the most un-unique way..
(EP 3 spoiler) Was there any reason to have the scene where Tum was accidentally in the womens change room?? At…
Y'all.. what if he's a trans woman and for a minute he forgot his exterior doesn't match his inner feelings? Would Tiffy still love him.. or her since she's a woman? Now it's a GL.
Hahahahahahah... we are already on the theories, right?
"Trash"? The BL genre has a lot of "trash" in it and Lovely Writer hardly qualifies. There are popular BL dramas…
That is interesting about your friend. I think that a bunch of BL is trash. I say that with love because I love BL, but I call trash when I see it.
You are right many shows have horrible camera and audio quality, but that is not what I'd call trash. That's just bad production quality and low budget. When I call this show trash, I am purely 100% talking about the writing, acting, etc. The rape thing, that can be included in my description.
And you're right, the show is funny. I laughed while watching. That is probably why your friend also enjoys. However, the entertainment value of this show when squared up to many other things is at best sub par. It's not unique and is pitching "satirical comedy" under the guise of another not-so-interesting BL story. I personally think shows like this are trash, and I watch many trash shows all the time. Like Gen Y, currently airing Cupid Coach, Oxygen. Endless trash that I will watch till the last episode.
Generally, this drama is fun for what it is. But if you ask me this show is a piece of trash. I mean, really. I know someone else has to agree with me. I enjoy the show, but would you show this show to one of your friends? Probably not unless they are as obsessed with BL as much as you. It takes cheap BL cliches and abuses the heck out of them!! Maybe it is supposed to be a sort of parody, but it does not feel new or fresh. It seems more like an excuse to abuse the cliches more than normal.
One thing I do like is how Nubsib's character is seemingly shy and assertive at the same time. Now, that's new.
